Service and beer selection here was great! The bartender Micheal was super friendly!
Service and beer selection here was great! The bartender Micheal was super friendly!
The Keith's brewery tour was excellent! Full disclosure I was already a fan of the IPA. The tour itself included both a family & brewery history plus a basic primer on how beer is brewed. Following those we were treated to a delightful ceilidh with several beers to try throughout! All and all well worth it, I had a great a time!
Neat location in the Historic Properties offering entertaining, guided brewery tours with costumed actors. There's also a retail space that offers merchandise and small batch beers you can take away in growlers.
Great time. Really put a lot of effort in the experience.
Recommend! Actors were a blast, and the bartender was a champion Stella pourer!
Depends on what you are looking for...
The tour is more about the history of Keith and the history of the building you are in. They don't focus a lot on the process of making beer. They do give you a decent amount of Keiths to try through out the tour though. You start off with one in your hand, and your glass is traded out in most of the rooms you visit. If you are a history junkie and enjoy architecture, this tour is for you. If you want to visit a manufacturing brewery, this probably isn't the place. It doesn't smell like much fermentation happens there.
The brewery tour is more like a theater play than an ordinary brewery tour. You will be guided through the brewery with a lot of humor, fun and live singing. You try all the beers currently available. The brewery is worth seeing, especially the vaulted cellar.
Great tour, lots of beer sampling, delightful atmosphere, very pleasant music, all good
Some of the best beer I have ever had. The India pale ale has a great after taste. Smooth and clean tasting. I highly recommend it.
We did the brewery tour while in Halifax. It was an amazing tour. The guides really get into the spirit of things. They give you just the right amount of beer samples and knowledge of the brewery and its history. They end off the tour with some traditional Scottish folk music by a live band and a couple pints! We took our 3 year old son on the tour and were a bit nervous about it but it was family friendly and they offer ice tea and water to kids or non drinkers. They also have a games room for kids to toss some bean bags while parents enjoy their samples. Definitely worth going.
Absolutely amazing. Very interactive and informative. I would recommend to anyone. It's a lot of fun!
Great little snap shot of Halifax history. I wish they'd serve a little more beer on the tour.
What an awesome tour, my wife and I enjoyed the theatrical/historical tour very much. Beer tasting and history. Definitely recommend.
If your visiting Halifax, you have to fit in a tour of the Alexander Keith's Brewery! It's an awesome place with great history, the staff clearly love working there and give you a great time and the beer is great too. Fully recommend it.
Very poor service. Store reps are uneducated in their products and give labattd bad brand. Walked in an Alexander Keith's fan, walled out disgusted.
Very disappointing meal! Service marginal. Cold in the restaurant. Fish and chips extremely greasy. Burger not great. Would not recommend. Would not return.
Hard to believe a brewery tour could entertain my 4 year old but there it is!
We did the tour which was very well run. Staff were knowledgeable and very friendly/energetic. The beer samples and songs were a perfect mix
Fun tour with a enthusiast crew and good tasting beer. Made me a Keith's fan.
The tour guides were great, definitely stayed in character, such talented singers. Loved seeing some of the actual historic artifacts as well as hearing the stories of how the brand grew and shaped the Halifax community.
Plus, 2 free beers! Would totally recommend to others. A great value and a unique experience.
Amazing staff, great atmosphere, spectacular history. Highly reccomend for company parties!
A must visit when in Halifax; the tour was awesome the staff unbelievably talented when not hosting or serving food they are playing guitar and singing. Love this venue was very impress with the everyone working there thank you for a great time. P.S. best clam chowder I have ever had!
Good tour. They give you 2 small samplers and 2 mid size ones. The tour was less than 1 hour. Wish they have a bit more time to enjoy the beer. Staff was great, very enthusiastic.
Not the most exciting brewery tour ever. I've done the Heineken tour in Amsterdam, and in comparison, the Keith's tour is really boring (and costs the same as the super cool, and longer Heineken tour - $25 CAD). Neat way to learn about the history surrounding Keith's and Halifax, but I probably wouldn't recommend it as a must-see in Halifax.
Even in the day,
Fish & chip is delicious
Traditional pub atmosphere Good
What a great place for a beer enthusiast and to learn about Canadian beer history!
The guided tour is really excellent! I recommend her without a doubt;)
Great place to visit. Great beer! Discovered this just by walking around.
Awww man it was awesome, my nephew and I dropped a few tabs of Mescaline before we went in. It was AWESOME!
Best tour I've ever experienced! I was the only person to attend the 5pm time frame and they treated me like a VIP. The guides were absolutely full of AK facts, hilarious and most passionately talented group. I'd recommend anyone to visit this Brewery.
Absolute bs! Came all the way from Toronto to visit our favorite beer brewery and to find out that Apparently, the tour times are not always the right times on their official website. I would give them a 0 out of 5 if it exist. Worst explanation and customer service ever when we arrived. Telling us that it's too bad and that the times are the website are not official even though we came all the way from Toronto. Never again! Guys... If you want to tour this piece of crap brewery who apparently can't get their time straight make sure you call them first just in case! Because they don't care nor can they get it right.
Very disappointing and very expensive for what you get to see on the tour. Staff were entertaining and friendly.
Nice service, beer is available in many variants that taste rather light. Meals are delicious. All in all, okay.
You get a beer every few rooms. Delightful hosts, and amazing singing and musical talent by Edie or (Steve )worth it!
It's the oldest and best brewery that I've seen in my Life
Very pricey for what the tour offers. For 25$, you will get 2 small samples of beer, 2 larger samples of beer, 3 songs and a few info on brewing and Mr. Keith. All this in 55 minutes! This is a tourist trap.
This was without doubt the best brewery tour I've taken, and probably one of the best tours full stop. The guides (who take on the character of a Victorian era brewery employee) are very enthusiastic, entertaining, and good-humoured. The tour itself is pretty comprehensive, though beer fans should be aware that it focuses on the history of the Keith's brewery, rather than the brewing process itself. Finally, the free beer (2 schooners) is served in a replica of an old time pub - which is a nice touch! Well worth the price of admission!
We had snow for the first time of the year in Halifax and there is limited parking due to construction. I arrived 10 minutes late for my scheduled tour and despite being able to see my friends as they had not yet entered the brewery, I was rudely turned away and told I missed the tour as it is a working brewery and they have a rule they cannot allow people in late. I was dumbfounded as my friends had not even entered the "working brewery" yet. But I was still not allowed to go in. Absolutely ridiculous rule that does not factor in personal circumstances nor does it make any sense as they had not entered the brewery. Won't be back.
A cool interactive tour showing the history of kieths brewing. The tasting after the tour is a bonus.
Amazing, fun, interactive tour. We had a lot of fun as a group and sampled a lot of beer. Highly recommended for beer and non beer lovers due to the historical background of Alexander Keith himself.
Always a pleasure to visit the Alexander Keith s Brewery. The staffs are friendly and knowledgeable. Very nice and informative display, a must see if you are visiting Halifax.
Always a good time. Entertaining, informative and tasty beer, what more could you want!
Staff we're full of energy, knowledge and beer (or at least I assume so).
Wonderful time...easily a must do thing for any beer lover
I had a really fun time on the musical beer tour here. I think they recently started brewing beer here again. Cool place!
Great tour and way to spend an hour. Interesting history and seeing in all the spaces.
Not just a tour and tasting, this is a fantastic production the embraces the history and flair of a fantastic people. East coast charm at it's best. Raise a glass and embrace the stag. You wont regret it.
So we called ahead.. .only to have an automated message...it did say the hours ..so we decided to walk from our room..only to find out that they were closed at 3pm...instead of the 5pm it said on the message ( could not get to speak to a live person....bummed ..not impressed wouldn't have walked that hike if we knew ahead
Helluvagoodtime, quite tipsy, well worth the 30 bucks! Go there. You must.
Best tour ever! Absolutely amazing, you truly feel as if you go back in time!
Brewery tours of Atlantic Canada's oldest brewery with guides in 19th century motif. In an historic building this place is fantastic. Grab some pub food and Keith's beer after the tour. Love the place, but would be nice if all the tour guides were in period costume. The delivery was enthusiastic but quite robotic and scripted.
30 bucks after tax for the Tour , you get around 32 ounces of different craft beers brewed on site , section on enactment of a Scottish bar feel with music, get to know the steps of brewing the beer, very friendly staff. Must visit if you are in the area especially if you never been to a brewery before.
Located in Alexander Keith s restored family home on the lower harbour front.
One of the best if not the best brewery tour I ve been on! Highly recommend!
Want to be embarrassed for two hours solid? If so, this is the place for you! It s somewhere between camp counselor and historical reenactor level of enthusiasm and it s excruciating.
Bandana guitar girl- clearly you have talent. Take it down three notches. Please.
Did not get a chance to tour brewery. Did have the Alexander Keith's Red Amber at the Red Stag Tavern next door.
Excellent ale. Recommend it. Not too hobbie
the pride of Nova Scotia will always be my number one pick, taste is explainable and the history behind this brew is remarkable. simply the best.
Such a fun tour. Like how we go back in time and sing songs while having a pint of Keith's.
Always puts a smile on my face. Definitely worth visiting and doing the tour. Cheesy and touristy, but a great time.
Great tour through the brewery. Very informative guides, some drinks, and entertainment to boot. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Visiting Alexander Keith's brewery with three different guides was very entertaining and informative. The visit lasted about an hour and I enjoyed every minute of it. I also had the chance to taste four different types of beers with very unique tastes.
I m sure it s historic and all, however has to be the most expensive beer tour in North America. Yet everyone is lined up to pay. Most expensive attraction in Halifax. Retail store has nothing in stock. Very disappointed.
Tour was excellent, surpassed my expectations for sure. The staff was full of energy and very knowledgeable. There were many samples of all of their delicious beer, you definitely get your money s worth.
The home if the Alexander Keith's brewery. A lovely place, good beer, good food at the Red Stag Inn. Tour is about 25 dollars Canadian
It was a decent tour, pretty good price overall. Apparently they don't dress up in their period costumes any more, which is a small minus if you want to bring kids (brewery tour might not be interesting to them). Good quick lesson on brewing. We were served a couple 4oz samples and 2 8oz at the end of the tour, plus a free 8oz at the restaurant next door.
I recommend doing the tour it was really fun. They take you through the distillery and explain the history of the beer, you get a generous amount of samples and live music! Only thing i wish would've been included is a souvenir gift such as glass or bottle opener. Other brew tours I've been on have been cheaper and you at least get a glass. But overall definitely loved it the people that work there are super nice and welcoming!
Very fun tour, the three ladies that sang us some jigs were very good !
Entertaining brewery tour. Bit expensive but good beer samples.
Best part of my stay in Halifax. Worthwhile tour given by people who sincerely care about the history and the product. Would recommend to anyone visiting the city!
Cold rooms and awkard hosts.
You get 2 sample size beers and 2 larger beers. Ice tea and lemonade is available for non beer drinkers.
It's really cold in all the rooms so take a sweater.
Tour started off interesting with history, a mini museum and room remakes. Then went into the beer making process and you see it in action.
We were then led into an old style bar which is when things got weird. 3 girls start performing a singing trio of old style songs. First song is upbeat with instruments so it was ok, but then it got slow and acapella and awkward. The girls had an awkward, tired dynamic and really dragged down the upbeat atmosphere created by the last 2 hosts. Tour could be greatly improved by modifying the entertainment in the pub room.
Best brewery tour (over Heineken in Amsterdam and Guiness in Dublin). In the higher ranks like the Jameson tour in Dublin !!
Amazing experiences come whilst you least expect them. We saw the Google schedule for AK's brewery tour and noticed they closed at 6pm. Despite that we headed over to the Red Stag Tavern to have some food. Once there, we noticed the tours were still going - the last one being 7:30pm. So we bought our tickets, skeptical that we would be only 2 for the tour and having paid $25CAD each.
Well, we agree that it's the best brewery tour we've been on (and it ranks vs Guiness tour in Dublin and Heineken in Amsterdam) - that speaks volumes. We enjoyed the Jameson tour in Dublin and AK ranks up there!
We won't spoil the surprises, but you will get some beer to taste during the tour and the guides are great ! Do it ! Explore Alexander Keith's Brewery
Serge : 5/5
Eli : 5/5
Lots of opportunities to taste new and Nova Scotia specific drafts of Alexander Keith s! The tour was a great time, complete with singing, dancing and feeling like we had been welcomed to a NS house party! A great way to taste some beers and spend an hour
30 Pack of Cans and KOD of Donair free regular Donair, KOD on Windmill will not accept the coupon on your beer box, will report
Staff is friendly as hell, always a nice visit ,if you are unsure of the kind of beer u like can ask for a sample, never disappointed
High quality maintenance of an old and important site
Stopped in to try Alexander Keith's pale ale and it was very good. Nice bar with great bartenders.
I had a great time going on the Brewery Tour! If you like beer you should defiantly check it out!
Travelled all the way from Vancouver BC for a short trip in Halifax. Google said it was an iconic place to visit. Google map said it was opened until 6pm..and we didnt make the times for the tour but wanted to check out the place briefly and have a beer. But when we went at 5pm (rushing to get there through traffic), the staff said the place is closed for a private function and told us to go next door (The Red Stag) for their beer. We asked if we could just have a peek at the facility and wasn't going to stay, they wouldnt let us. It was an overall disappointing experience. The beers were good. But we have tons of craft beers in Vancouver that taste as good or better that didnt require this kind of ordeal.
Great service, friendly people. Very enjoyable brewery tour as well.
The brewery tour didn't have much brewery in it, but even then, it was a very fun tour of the history of Alexander Kieth's.
They give you a LOT of alcohol during the tour though. Probably around 30 oz (two small sample size plus two bigger glasses) plus after the tour, the tour ticket includes a coupon for another sample! I'm glad we ate before coming in!
should check the quality before selling, stout was completely sour.
Very authentic place, full of history. I advise to take the Brewery tour.
Fantastic tour AND good ales. They clearly care about leaving a good impression.
Partner has Celiac, bartender was very nice and allowed us to sample thier ciders on tap. Craving nachos which unfortunately were not gluten freeb so we ended up leave. But the staff was super nice about it. And were apologizing for something which was not their fault. Great service.
