The food theme was on display when we visited. The gift shop was interesting as were many of the pieces but nothing really took my breath away or held me too long.

One of the most interesting museums in the world. Spectacular complex of buildings in an incredible location.
This museum had a cheap cost, awesome art with history about the artists and best of all, a really cool shop!
Visually beautiful with variety of art, including plaques to provide details. Very interesting. I truly enjoyed my time there.
Once agai. The AVAM out did themselves. Had a great time at the Flicks on the Hill celebration with the Sound of Music sing a thon. These Thursday night movies at the AVAM are a highlight of our summer.
One my favorite museums as an artist- it is multidisciplinary and dimensional, with the various display spaces, and entertaining rotating permanent collection. The outsider artist events are top notch! I loved participating in the art car parades and the Bazzart Holiday Show.
AVAM is my favorite museum in the entire DC/MD/VA area, bar none. It cuts to the core of evocative art and its inspiration with fantastic permanent and temporary exhibits. First and foremost it has great artwork, and also fantastic discussion about the art. The museum is personal, friendly, and fun - all about art that demands expression with whatever materials are at hand, and without pretension. It's quintessential Baltimore, hon.
It was nice, but one of the buildings was not open on the day i visited
A lot of really cool pieces and we even got to meet one of the artists.
We were looking for something to do near Inner Harbor. The water taxis weren't running, so the walk to Fort McHenry was too long. We decided on the American Visionary Art Museum, and were very pleased with that decision! My favorite part was the moving wooden sculptures in the 3rd (furthest south) building. So brilliant!
This was a cool experience for my kids. This museum is different. I've never seen art quite like this in a museum before. A lot of modern art and most of it local. Of course my kid's favorite part was the King's mouth and the fart exhibit! Quite expensive for an afternoon outing with 4 children but both buildings were worth the price. We also loved the motorized figures in building 2!
I really adored this museum. I would give it 6 stars if I could. That was till I saw some trite quote from Zooey ( a skid mark on contemporary culture)
Deshchanel about picnics. All of your artist deserve better.
Julian. x
I didn't expect much, but there were many interesting things to see. Children who didn't usually like art museums also liked it. Hamburn is worth a visit.
The best museum experience in the northeast. Pick up some candies and check it out
Loved this place. It has such unique exhibits that and art that is so inspiring. Fun for the kids too.
Amazing place! So many interesting pieces to see. They're all over the buildings. Exhibits change. You've to look up and outside as well!
I love the eclectic collections of art styles you won't find in other galleries
A fantastic location worth multiple hours of your life, the host many fun activities including the kinetic sculpture race which I happen to be participating in at the moment
If you are a student PLEASE bring your student ID for the discount. A quiet museum with no cafe at the top. Bathrooms were hard to find but a very nice museum and since the weather is cold there wasn't much of a garden.
The Parenthood theme is 5/5
I had a really good time here. It was not at all crowded on a Friday afternoon. We spend a good two hours wandering through the galleries before making our way to the store. The store was almost like another gallery. It was full of interesting items and the staff was very friendly.
Love this place it's so unique and kids love it too.
Very unique.. nothing to compare it to in Baltimore..great gift shop
Beautiful pieces here. Some pieces are a little kitsch, but are charming!
Went for an event. Really good place for a big function
Great display on family. Outside displays delight. Fun. Amazing variety. Something for everyone?
This place is a must go for anyone who loves unique art. You have to pay to be able to go into the three buildings but the gift shop is free to enter. The gift shop is so nice you can just go there, its super affordable and filled with things you wouldn't find anywhere else. There are some sculptures scattered outside but most of it is in the three buildings. There is parking next to the buildings but you have to pay in a meter. Its a must stop stop to go if your in the Baltimore area. 10/10
Great art selection that's different every time I go
Used a groupon, but even without it is not badly priced. The most interesting art museum I have been to. Since the art is made by :everyday people" You can feel more of a connection with many of the pieces. Very colorful. What ever you do, do not miss he gift shop, It had really cool stuff in it. Also don't miss the outdoor sculptures, the barn, and the other building with the interactive displays and whirly-gigs. I think many people didn't realize those places are part of the museum too. This was our first time going, We plan to go back again to check out the annual rotating exhibits.
A little pricey. I didn't understand the connection between the different themed rooms in the main building. One was about parenting, one was about children and one was about spirituality. The 2nd building seemed underutilized and a continuation of the spirituality floor, but you had to look up the 200ft ceilings and wasn't readable. The third building was cool, also I didn't understand the theme in that building. There were some cool pieces but what's their connection? Why were they there? The third floor was off limits for an event.
Some interesting paintings, sculptures and sayings. Nice!
One of my favorite places in Baltimore to visit! Beautiful art. Tasty food. Snazzy events.
Probably one of the most unique museums you will ever visit. I always love coming here!
full of treasures! A must see on the east coast. The gift shop and restaurant are also excellent!
Love this places with the current artist. I love out of the box ideas and unique creations. Some are not my taste but the paintings are so amazing and lots of the sculptures are really amazing. They also appreciate Military service and give discounts. Thank you for that but at the moment they only give free admission to active duty which is really insulting to those of us that are Combat Veterans. Just because we are retired doesn't mean to just spit us out now that we are not active anymore we are survivor's so please don't forget us especially when some active Soldiers haven't even seen Combat. Please remember the Veterans also they are worth the free if fees also.
Had a lovely time! I went for a school project to see the Painted Screens of Baltimore. The staff was friendly and helpful in pointing me in the right direction, since the screens were in a different building than I thought. Had a good mix of art that was fun, and art that was heavy and poignant.
Love it. Parenting exhibit they have right now resonated on so many levels, definitely check it out! Gift shop is always a fun treasure hunt too. They have awesome vintage style posters :)
I enjoyed this place immensely. There is much more to see here than you might think. The art is interesting, often thought provoking, sometimes beautiful, and always well displayed. The layout and feel of the place were very well done. Allowed you to wander in and out of places and while there were a lot of people there you never felt crowded. I will definitely be back next time I am in Baltimore.
This was a very nice museum with different art and a different perspective on what is considered art. I really enjoyed the 3D exhibit and the beaded dresses and sculptures. If you love art you need to visit.
Perfect size to cover in 2hr. Lots of modern art to see & tons of fun factoids.
Excellent friendly staff, but personally, modern art is not my favorite. The art is amateur and mostly modern.
Literally my favorite museum in the world, you get to see some amazing art created by individuals who were not classically trained at all. Great place to be inspired to create art and if you go, I recommend that you read the biographies next to the artwork. These people have some pretty interesting lives.
Didn t get a chance to go inside although I really wish I had. All around the museum you could find really cool art installations. I would definitely recommend going to go check it out if your an art lover.
Love this place. Unique museum. I've introduced many friends to this place.
Always love going to see what exciting new things are going on.
Wow! Blown away by this place . A must-see if you're traveling to Baltimore!
I wasn't impressed with the art outside but as you being to explore the art inside and really taken your time, it is truly amazing! The Holocaust art was the most touching part!!
Such an amazingly unique museum. If you are in the Inner Harbor area and want to spend your time somewhere really really cool, this is the place. It's a secret treasure that needs to be shared more.
Amazing place! I could have spent all day there. If I ever go back to Baltimore, I'm totally going back. I highly recommend the restaurant if you have the time.
Great little museum. Unique. Not overwhelming. Definitely worth your time.
Second floor was closed unfortunately..but what I saw I only seen two peices I liked
So fun! Came for an event so to be fair I don't know if it's normally a good value. Don't come here for fine art but if your in the mood for something a little off color this is a good choice
.
One of my favorite art museums in the country. Expect to have your mind blown at some of the craziest artwork and installations you can't even imagine. Plan to take your time here cause there is so much to see.
This museum is pure fun. So quirky and interesting.
I love this museum. Such amazing works of art. I had no idea they were having an Alex Grey exhibit. He's one of my favorite painters and it was amazing to see his full size work in person. If you go, be sure to check out the Lusitania made from almost 11,000 toothpicks and the fart exhibit downstairs
Look outside and go to the next place on a schedule. You don't have to look inside like someone's review.
All our kids had a blast and the chorus was awesome.
The wedding was spectacular and the view is to die for
