Went here for a wedding, I was in the sculpture barn, And it was nicely laid out, The museum was open for the guest so that was very nice to. I suggest if you are getting married or having a party you do it at the American Visionary Art Museum.

Was a great place to visit and experience an individual artist vision through exhibits. There is a large mirror glass egg that separates the other building full of hands stuff and cool floats. Parking was accessable during the day, overall viddy cool!

This place was full of awesome and unusual art. There are mediums for everyone - paintings, sculpture, mixed media, 3D art and much more. Highlights included the model of the Lusitania done in toothpicks, paintings that came alive with 3D glasses and a beautiful beaded dress. The gift shop is also cool. There is something for every budget and every age. Very nice!

I absolutely love this place and don't see how people live in this city and don't support the local culture.i can post all the pictures possible but it won't amont to the same experience. My children (14 & 4) came here one Saturday afternoon and have to come back. Everyone is so friendly and knowledgeable which definitely helped in the experience. We had personal take aways from the museum. My preschooler loved the interactive exhibits and my teen was into the environmental parts. I loved inspirational sections.

Beautiful venue for a unique wedding! Only minor flaw that it was really drafty with doors opening and closing throughout the evening to bring in catering supplies. Since it was 37 degrees, might have been better to bring everything indoors in advance.

Love the gift shop here! The museum is great and well curated. My only complaint is that they have a strict policy on no backpacks and no place to securely store one if you're carrying one.

I love love love AVAM. Its all things bright and beautiful if a little weird and made out of trash. Great for adults, great for kids and leave plenty of time for the greatest museum gift shop of all time.

MUST GO TO WHEN IN BALTIMORE! Very neat and such a cool spot! Within short walking distance from Inner Harbor! The Museum consist of two separate buildings. The first building has 3 floors with a restaurant on the third floor!

There is no place quite like this. What happens when you mix manic intensity and powerful vision with the time and effort to execute works of art that anyone else would not have the patience or talent to execute? That's visionary art, and you will find a great deal of it here.

In addition to the regular permanent collection, changing shows offer a glimpse into wild and wonderful minds coupled with amazingly skilled hands. Imagination comes to life.

The museum also boasts a deliightful cafe, Encantada, on the top floor. Excellent food in an equally imaginative setting.

The Side Show gift shop is also a prize -- lots of wonderful stuff, and a selection of candy from your childhood that will bring back memories!

The best museum in MD or the DC area! Always interesting artists and exhibits. It's worth the trip alone to see the Cabaret Mechanical Theater automata in the barn. If there's a school field trip there it can get a little crowded, but still worth it. We need more places like this in the world.

This is an amazing museum of "outsider/folk/isolate" art. It's an incredible array of works on display: from tiny embroidered scenes from a man that taught himself to embroider while he was in prison using thread from socks; to a huge Victorian era steamship made entirely of toothpicks. Be sure to check out the mechanized art in the annex 2 doors down.

We also ate at the cafe upstairs which was fairly pricey for what it was... and they didn't even have Almond or other alternative milk for my coffee.

Gift shop is a must- I spent some cash there and love everything I got.

This is a museum of Visionary Art, defined as "work created by self taught individuals whose work arises from an inate personal vision that revels in the creative act itself." The works you will see may be much less technical than a traditional art museum, but they still make a deeply emotional connection. The museum is very well curated, telling the stories of the artists and their vision. A delightful place to spend a few hours.

The American Visionary art museum is equal parts Cabinet of Curiosities and compellingly wonderous Museum. Not only are the exhibitions top-notch and thoughtful the interpretive and didactic materials give insight to the artist's history, materials, echniques, and methodology. A gem.

A weird, but cool collection of art. If art museums aren't your thing, this isn't a "normal" art museum and you might find yourself enjoying this one. Multiple galleries to view each a little bit different and unique. Check out the gift shop for chotchkies all of all kinds!
