I've had a very good experience dealing with Jennifer Driver at Actuate IP. Firstly the fees are detailed up front so you know what to expect at every stage of the trade mark process with no hidden and extra charges. We were given good advice on how to initially TM our brand name / logo so as to get a better chance of a success TM. After that we were given clear and concise options about international TM which was easy to follow and understand. Any questions or clarifications were quickly responded by email or phone call. I have no hesitation in recommending Actuate IP.
They withheld the true cost to defend a trademark opposition. In their initial meeting they quoted $4-6K as a fixed fee proposal. They conveniently forgot to tell us that this would only get us halfway through the process. They then wanted $6k to present evidence and then another $6K to provide documents for a hearing. If we wanted them to then attend the hearing that would have been even more. It turned out to be a lot more than the quoted $4-6K? (For standard procedures that they handle every day)
It would have been handy to know all of this at the start... Snakes.

Actuate IP's fixed fee proposal along with "unlimited access" is a farce. They will bill you for services you didn't agree to as if you've written a blank cheque and are not in contact when you ask. More importantly, the legal advice I received employed the strategy of prolonging contention and drawing out the process (to prolong the use of their services). I ended up settling this matter myself directly and paying far too much for inconclusive information that didn't resolve the matter. The learning is this - whoever has the greater funds is legally correct.
I used ActuateIP to conduct a patent search for an invention I've come up with to make sure I wasn't infringing on someone else's idea (Patent). Colin, Martin and the team were fantastic and cleared the way for provisional patent application into the US and beyond.
The price for the search was really good, it was very comprehensive and the recommendations were spot on. Looking forward to working alongside on the provisional patent application in the next couple of weeks.
