Not so great experience. The queue to get into the museum was extremely long with little information for visitors who have already got tickets upfront. Ended up waiting for almost 45 mins to get in for security check.

Also as a New Yorker, we get in for free ( donations ). This place is basically a great museum for science and ecological history. Prices vary but it is in Central Park so it s a great place to roam and enjoy. Downside, lines can get very long, and there is tons of people.

If you're a science nerd visiting NYC, you HAVE to check this place. There's a bit of everything, although my favorite were the dinosaur fossils (which I didn't get to check 24 years ago when I visited the place as a kid). It was a quick visit, around 2 hours, so I couldn't check everything in detail, but I still had a lot of fun.

The museum is pretty nice and interesting but some employees are rude, like the guards up front who make people enter through the other door or line up like preschoolers. Just put a few signs and use "please" and "thank you", you are the face of this country for many many tourists coming to see America. Also, the bathrooms look uncared for. Our overall experience is ok, it's worth going there anyway because of the museum itself.

I don't have enough good things to say about this museum. When you enter the main doors you are greeted by a colossal skeleton cast of a fight between an allosaurus and barosaurus. The price of general admissions is pay what you wish but if you want to see the shows you must pay full price. The museum is very big and you could easily spend the whole day there if you're legs are up to the task.

I was so excited to go here. And the T-Rex skeleton is cool. But the museum itself ia very old, and - even though in really into these things - quite boring. Also, the parts about cultutes are quite, how to put, insensitive given todays standards. Food - super overpriced. So - like you have to go there anyway, but dont get too excited.

Thihs museum is incredible and incredibly huge. You need an entire day to vist all the exhibits and shows. Don't miss out on the planetarium. There is something for everyone here. From fish, dinosaurs and animals of all sorts. You will learn something new everytime. Plus they have temporary exhibits that are always changing. So be sure to check it out.

The American Museum of Natural History has been one of my favorite NYC museums since I was a kid. There is no shortage of things to do or see here and there is an exhibit that can appeal to practically anyone depending on what they are most interested in learning about. The museum is clean and fairly accessible to all, but there is usually a long line for the elevators, so if you require them plan to arrive a bit closer to the opening time to have ample time to visit each floor (opinion based on weekend visits only).

As a taxidermy enthusiast, the Natural History museum has to be one of my favorite places on earth (though wow, does the primate exhibit leave something to be desired...but that's old taxidermy for you). Even my parents, who are normally horrified by it, found many of the (newer) taxidermy models of polar bears, seals, birds, buffaloes, and more, to be extraordinary. I think I could die happily in front of the Wall of Biodiversity (which you have to pass in order to see the iconic blue whale - get ready for that if that's not your jam).

D'yknow what I love just as much as taxidermy? Bones. Know what this museum has? Bones. Tons of freakin' dinosaur and other fossil bones. To the point where on the seventh or so room full of bones even I was like "alright, we can speed walk this one". Still, worse things in the world than an excess of knowledge, and that's what the Natural History Museum has in spades.

On an unrelated note, the gift shop(s) here amazed me in how reasonably priced they were. $25 dollars for a hoodie I wear constantly, when it wasn't even on sale? Nice.

One of my favourite museum-experiences of all time. There is so much to see and mostly stuff that I'm really, truly interested in (because let's be honest, who actually enjoys The Louvre?!) (Not me). If I lived in NY and had the spare cash, I'd probably get a subscription, especially if I had kids (a lot of ifs). Anyway, loved it. I'd recommend going to one of the shows too.

One of the major attractions in NYC if you love natural history of mankind. Though I got the impression that it s mostly good for kids. They get to see a lot of fossils and dinosaur skeletons. There is a simulation of growth of human population over time which was absolutely amazing. The Human migration section is really interesting. If you are a student ( make sure to show your id), they usually ask for a suggested price of entry, which you don t need to pay, you can even pay just 1$ and go inside !

Over years since I was a kid to now it's still as beautiful of a museum. I'm glad this is a place I can go to that ends up still looking so marvelous with its arts and atmosphere. Never had any issues visiting it, they were prepared to offer any help if needed.

As a whole - museum is great. But Planetarium they have doesn't worth your time or money. Yes they have some information there, the one you can find anywhere, what they don't have is a spectacular, nothing memorable.
But for the rest of museum - be ready to walk a lot and these days no food so be ready.
Great place to spend time with your kids.
No parking though.

Spent a couple hours in here and it was really great. You could easily spend half a day here without too much effort. Would be nice to have had a guided tour through it all but I m sure this would have taken the whole day if not more as there is just so much to see. Not sure if the animals inside the glass were real but they sure looked real!

A must for New York, we entered via the subway and this saved a lot of time (would recommend). As the kids had just gone back to school it wasn't too busy which was nice. Loads to see and do, we spent 6 hours in there and didn't fully look at everything. The deep space talk/ film is well worth it. Only down side is that it was really cold in there for some reason, you could see the staff were cold, especially in the t-rex section. Overall a really good day out just should have bought a coat.

There's 1.3 million items on display so enough for plenty of visits. Highly recommend the tours to hit the highlights such as the biggest, longest, or oldest forms of life. The labels next to displays provide detailed useful information.

Do you love science? Do you love history? Do you love dinosaurs? This is the place to go. If you are on a New York trip from some other place, do not miss this amazing museum. You can spend all day going through different sections of the museum.

Such a cool museum. We barely scrapped the surface of what's there after a whole day visit. We did a Bible based tour and it was honestly so cool. I would definitely recommend going there at least once. I'm from Australia and if I came back to the US, I would definitely go back and visit the awesome museums in New York!!

Great place for kids and adults to learn about science. The special exhibits keep things fresh and interesting. The dinosaurs blow kids away. It's a huge palace of a museum with lots to explore. The blue whale is incredible. An American treasure!

Travelled to New York about 2 years ago and visited this fine piece of history and was amazing. We only spent an hour or 2 here, however I could've stayed in the presence of history for days. This is the closest thing I've found to riveting experience through time. Right when you walk through the doors you see dinosaur skeleton soaring toward the ceiling possibly 20 feet high, maybe higher. The experience humbles a man greatly as he see's he nothing more than a small piece of light on the plain of time. Truly breathtaking.

For me it's the best museum of them all. This is also the first time I review a place when my precious sister is with me. As all of you know, in every review I write, I wish for my sister to be with me . Today it actually happened!!! In order to celebrate this occasion, all the photos I've uploaded are photos of her.

A beautiful museum, was just like in the 'A Night at the Museum' movie haha. But really, it was extremely fun to see what was in there. I went there in my first ever week at United States (I was about to start college in Arizona). And it was a good touristic experience for me.

The exhibits in this museum are excellent, they're complete and one of a kind. Although some of the exhibits were falling apart, or required additional funds (on top of the $22 admission) to get into, most of the exhibits were very well done.

Unfortunately, the museum security was very rude to us. Before the museum closes as 5:45, (A strange time) a ten minute warning is played. We decided to finish looking at the meteorites exhibit, but were immediately ushered out by the pushy security guards before we could even finish reading a placard. The security guards weren't even nice about it either, a man in a wheelchair near us was rather curtly told where to exit after he politely asked. I could go on about how annoyed this made us, but I'll leave it at that.

In the end what could have been a great museum experience only left us with a bad taste in our mouths. We will probably visit again someday and hopefully by then the museum fixes its staff issues.

My friends and I had a blast here. I would not recommend the all shows pass only because the Dark Universe show was the same one I had witnessed at other locations. The IMAX show also eats up a lot of your visitation time. I recommend the other exhibits/shows.

It s pay as you wish so you can decide how much you want to pay. Don t know how it works to get ticket with the extra exhibitions though.

You don't have to be a history fan to be fascinated with this place. Add it to your destinations list if you're in NYC because it's incredible. Staff was friendly, the exhibits are interesting and it will probably amaze you when you see history outside of the books.

Really dark and dated. Unable to see some of the exhibits as so dark. The dinosaur section was ok, but museum needs a massive overhaul and update, very worn and tired. Go to the natural history museum in London to see how it should be done. Very poor effort New York

After visiting The Met and MoMA, this place just leaves too much to be desired. Everything feels old and outdated. Dirty, understaffed. During COVID, the Planetarium was closed, which was a shame since it is the most modern part of the museum. If you re short on time, visit The Met or MoMA instead.

The building itself is beautiful.

But no gizzard stones for sale in the museum shop
They did not even know about stomach stones or gastroliths
Funny enough we can buy them at home in Denmark

This is the premiere museum for everything natural and I can't get enough of it! The place is massive with too much to see in one visit. Put on your comfiest walking shoes and start exploring. The top floor w/ all the dinosaur exhibits is a hot mess of people most of the time but the other floors can get just as packed too. It's a bit of a maze to get through at times too. Stick to a weekday or early weekend morning for the least crowds. The pay what you want pricing is great but don't be a cheap skate. My favorite place to wonder and explore is the peoples exhibits from around the world. It's easy to get to and there are tons of things to do in the area including Central Park, strolling the Upper West Side or more museums across the park.

This place will definitely leave you in owe. It gives you the chance to see the whole world inside one building, and also takes you back in time to visit every civilization that you could think of. I spent 4 hours and probably seen 1/4 of the museum. We will definitely come back to finish the journey. There's a parking on site if you can't find a spot on the street

We took our youth group here for an outing. Most of the people in our group came away highly frustrated at the difficulty of getting around, the lack of signage and the few elevators and staircases that seemed hidden. One student who loved the MET and other museums and activities we attended, said a nap would have been better than this. Many of the people I heard as I was walking around were just as frustrated. One lady was almost in tears because the bathroom didn't have a proper changing table. I've been to many museums in NYC more than once, but I won't come back to this one.

I have been to a few natural history museum and I don t think this one is the best. I had high hopes but those weren t met. The halls were often too small and contained too little information. Some of the information also needs to be updated. And what s up with the prices in food court? Is that where they making most of their money?

Did the tourist thing while visiting New York and visited the American Museum of Natural History and it was well worth it. I got the general admission so there were a couple of spots I couldn't visit however I would not have had time. There are a lot of exhibits, actually to many to see in a day. So the one disappointing thing is that I didn't see everything and what we did see felt rushed. If you live in New York go more than once and really enjoy the place, if you're visiting you'll need to be here from open to close.

I always have a good time when I go here and I always learn something new - although I don't remember . There are all sorts of exhibits and sections from dinosaur to geology to how the earth was made. They have revolving exhibits too. Then there's the presentation about the galaxy at the Hayden planetarium. Whether you wanna take your kid(s) there or head out on a nerdier type of date AMNH is a great choice

Well worth a visit. Buy a city pass as it enables you to jump the queue once inside the security bit. Although very interesting and informative, if you are expecting the same as the film, then you may be disappointed. If you buy a city pass this includes a 3D cinema show of your choice once inside. Go early as the queues become horrendous.

I can't say much about the museum itself because I find almost all museum's boring, but I went for my children and they had fun. I do have to say, I was very impressed with the staff. Very helpful and friendly. At one point one of my children kicked something he shouldn't have and while the worker told him he shouldn't do that, which I also told him, she had sympathy for him and explained how tired he must be from all that walking.

World class history museum. From period placed dioramas to flora and fauna exhibits, it is a wonderful place for families to visit and learn. The dinosaur exhibitions would be hard to beat anywhere with a vast array of specimens. For kids, there is a Night at the Museum booklet for them to go find some of the references in the movies. They strategically placed the Easter Island "dum dum" head in the far reaches to ensure you walk through many areas. Brilliant as there are many things to see along the way. The blue whale is a sight to see as well as the planetarium. Plan to spend a few hours marveling at everything there is to see - not the least of which is the amazing architecture. It is completely worth the suggestion admission!
