One of my favorite museums. The lines can be a little long to get in but its worth the wait
Enjoyed the human origins, oceans and large mammals exhibits on a Sunday. So much to see, must go back...
For me is not worth it as I don t like anthropology; I found it boring. Long live manhattan and god bless America!
One day here isn t enough. I have pledged to people that on future trips to New York we will spend a day here just to recap on things we have missed. Every exhibit is beautiful and the feel of the museum overall is stunning. Teddy Roosevelt did a good job here.
The museum is great. But please give a hot cup of decent latte when you pay around $ 5,00 for it. It's really annoying when we pay $ 82,00 for 4 family members and get ripped off for some poor half warm drinks. We were asked what we would like to pay for the entrance and we paid regular prices to support the museum.
The American Museum of Natural History is famous around the world especially after the Night in the Museum films but it was a bit of a let-down for us . While some of the exhibits are great it feels very dark and not well organized in order to allow you to enjoy those The best part of the museum for us was the Rose Centre for Earth and Space and the planetarium. The Dark Universe theme was both informative and entertaining at the same time. I believe the museum can improve some of the guides so as to allow visitors to enjoy it more during a day visit. While there are a number of tours recommended in the guides none of them is easy to follow. so a lot more can be done in that area ..
Amazing! Learning about more about history always is a good thing! This is an incredible museum and they have so many details about other parts of the world! It's so good to see how they include all the parts of the world in one single place! Fascinating!
This is a huge amazing place. However, staff are useless. The rules prohibited many thing to carry incide, and there is no place to left somewhat. The best advice I heard was "left your staff outside". I hate stupid rule and security!
I'd your kids like dinos, their eyes will LIGHT UP! Make the effort at least once
Even if you don't think you like "science" or "history," please come check this museum. Giant dinosaurs, fun brain exhibits, an app that will help you find your way around the museum, and totally sweet movies and iMax shows. It's a fantastic way to spend a day in New York.
It was one of the most incredible museums I have ever been to. The planetarium is cool, but not so much fun for those who don't speak English! The pieces that appear in the film are all there! But the most impressive thing is the fixed exposure of the dinosaurs! Amazing!
So much to see! You can totally spend an entire day, but the tickets are great because you can leave and come back. I feel like you should review the map and decide what you want to see, because I think you would be hard pressed to see it all. The African People exhibit is AMAZING and I love all of the dinosaurs! So many fossils!
Super nice place! Huge! Dinosaurs is gorgeous! You fill a bit strange when understand that it s animals bodies every where:) You can pay what you wish in ticket service in the museum any day. But if you want to avoid line better to buy full ticket online.
My little one loves this place since he was 18 months old.
Everything seems really outdated. The replicas seem super fake and are just really bad tbh. You have to walk through plenty of shops which is suuuper annoying. Too many people everywhere and the cool stuff you have to pay extra every time. Some of the dinosaur and mammal skeletons are impressive but oh well. It s huge and you can see a lot I guess but for me it s definitely not worth it. If you have the chance to see museums like this during your next vacation, skip this one.
If you re ever in NYC it s the best place to visit.
My kids enjoyed this museum so much, and when they re happy im happy.
Its a large 4 floor museum so it can take a few hours, we rushed through some parts since my kids are into dinosaurs and metals, minerals and the outer space so we spent more time in those sections and we were not disappointed.
The customer service is great, very helpful and they know exactly where everything is and they are great at giving directions and are very respectful.
Its good to know that after 5 pm entrance is free, keeping in kind that the museum closes at 5:45.
This museum has so much To see that we re going again at out upcoming NYC trip again.
Great museum. Kids could learn a lot. Select what you would like to see and cover them first. It can be tiresome to cover everything otherwise.
You will need the entire day to see everything. Lots of interesting things to read.
This is a great museum. The shows are a treat to watch. It does need a lot if time to go through everything, though.
American Museum of Natural History is a must stop on any itinerary to New York involving kids, or even if you aren t traveling with any. Chief among the exhibits is the dinasour collection featuring fossils of dinosaurs including the mighty T-REX and breathtaking dioramas of American nature. It s pretty surreal standing next to a Barosaurus and imagining yourself in the age when dinosaurs rule the Earth. Outside the museum, a statue of Theodore Roosevelt greets visitors to the Roosevelet Memorial Hall.
Oh yeah, and no, the movie is not an accurate representation of the museum and there isn t a Golden Tablet of Pharaoh Akhmenrah.
One of the best places I have ever been! Recommend for every history lover! You can find your past in here!
The museum is well kept, looks almost exactly as it did when i was still in elementary school. The only reason i gave it 3 stars is because some of the exhibits need cleaning on the inside of the glass amd there were 2 that i saw where the bird from the tree fell and lies awkwardly under a rock
Bigger than its sister Natural History Museum in DC. But I really don't like the style of showcases. I like dynamic sculptures and immersing human-made scenes. In this aspect, the Natural Museum in Beijing is even better.
Definitely would recommend for those who are interested in dinosaurs/prehistoric life, exhibits of which make up a large part of the museum. Many of the other displays have primarily historical value- some of the information is outdated as the museum was mainly built up in the 20th century.
Great place to bring your kids to, or to go on a rainy day. Some of the stuff feels a lil out dated, not cause it's millions of years old but the way the exhibition is put, and havnt changed for years. Overall it's a great museum, the entrance fee is recommended meaning you can give how much youd like (even a quarter) have fun
What can you say about this place. Some of my fondest childhood memories...and now it is a treat to take my own child to see the greatest collection of dinosaur bones and stuffed animals in the world.
Wonderful exhibits. A little crowded early in the day but afternoon was quieter. Still have the huge Blue Whale.
Great for kids but has become very outdated and not immersive at all. Management should actually dust down the exhibits, it seems like it's stuck in time from 10years ago. Very badly signposted and confusing layout with many exhibits closed for refurb or closed for private function. There are some really interesting exhibits but overall I felt a little let down.
Great for children of all ages if your looking for a family activity.
Amazing place with awesome attractions
So much to see, come early!
The best museum in this planet (OK it might sound too much, but it is really cool).
Absolutely amazing experience for kids and adults. I found the place fascinating. One time visit is not enough since it is huge. Highly suggest visiting.
Don t use CityPASS here, unlike MET, you have to wait in the long ticket line.
There are so many interesting things to see here, you could spend several days. Although I am not a fan of stuffing animals, I appreciated the displays of those animals within representations of their natural environment. These are made so well that you can almost imagine the scenes coming alive right in front of you. I don't recall having seen anything like it before. Then of course there is the amazing collection of dinos, mammoths and many many other animal skeletons or replicas.
Even without much effort it is very educative. And then it is not just natural history. They also have very interesting sections about non-western cultures. And the space center seems very interesting too, but I didn't have much time left to see it.
Great way to see many exhibits and buy drinks and food to enjoy the activities there is to see without the children and for half the price.
Haven't been back in a long time. But planning to go soon. With my grandsons. So they get to see ,And know about different things, that were on this earth for many decades, way before we came along.
What they used to survive, get places, the way of live I. Those times. There's so many things at the museum that they can see & acknowledge from.
This museum is huge. We loved it. We went with two young kids and they couldn't get enough. There are hours and hours worth of things to see. It can be very busy even during the middle of the week when you would think it would be emptier.
The dinosaur collection was a little lacking but the American animal collection makes up for any lack. There are some amazing exhibits.
Be sure to get a map.
4th floor was fun! Some areas temperature was very high.
Excellent museum. Well maintained, New expos, food in the cafeteria is healthy. It's a shame that you have to pay to get in though. This should be free to all.
Arriving at or before opening (10am) made the day at the American museum of natural history worth while.
We had tried showing up at noon a few days prior and found the line to get in around 2 corners... literally an hour plus wait. We skipped the line and found adventure in Central Park instead.
When we showed up at opening, the line was much more reasonable and the lack of crowds inside the museum for the 1st hour or two made the experience very enjoyable. The kids were wonderstruck at many of the exhibits.
We were bummed that some of the exhibits from the Night at the Museum movie were no longer on display. While we realize that movie is relatively old, the kids were hoping to see teddy roosevelt on his horse, the hall of miniatures, the Mongolian army, sacagawea, and the cavemen.
The other disappointment was the food in the museum cafe. Some real effort is needed to make eating at the museum a positive experience.
Overall, a great day.
The museum was awesome!!!! I have to go back so I can see the whole things.
The general museum content was great, but the featured exhibits were all terrible except for the planetarium. They were badly laid out, poorly constructed and not terribly informative. Overall this was the worst laid out museum I've ever been in, and it didn't help that the maps were all wrong.
The animal, dinosaur, and earth/space sciences exhibits were awesome though, and we spent 6 hours here overall. It's worth seeing, but be prepared to get lost, confused, and irritated.
While the collection is very good the setting is poor. Most of the museum is dark and noisy with a lot of echo. When screaming school groups come through you can hardly hear yourself think. Their are no audio tours and the app they have is a mess to understand. While there is some instruction they also quiz you. What's up with that?
I started to take the Highlights Tour but gave up since the guide was condescending. All in all, I went to see the dinosaurs and then got out of there.
It is a good place for family to visit. There is something to learn for everyone. There are also a lot of events going on at the museum. I like SciCafe events which hold on every first Wednesday evening of the month.
Great place. Staff are helpful and friendly. We were able to see most of the museum in less than 2.5hrs (if you skip the special exhibits). Like most museums, their souvenir shop is pricey.
Such a great place for a day out . The planetarium and the ocean show are like the Best. Try this place like a getaway from the regular weekend parties and stuff.
Enormously impressive view. Love the way they designed this museum. Neatedly placed each and one of every historic needed.
Massive and filled to the brim with interesting items and exhibits. Don't miss the Hayden Planetarium.
My all time favorite museum. Can spend hours in there and get lost every time! The dinosaurs are one of the best part aside from the ocean exhibit with the giant whale. Definitely a great place to spend with family but bring your own lunch because the cafe is pricey.
Had an amazing Night at This Museum.
The admission fee is actually voluntary.
Impressive museum! Tho the launch is very overpriced.
Second time there. Love the butterflies... and the dinosaurs of course!
This famous place is definitely worth visiting.
You will find places for all ages: from human origins to modern society, from under the sea to space Hayden Sphere.
There is also discovery room: the place where kids can touch everything and play and learn for half an hour sessions.
There are few places to eat and the best one is food court on the lowest level.
Amazing dinosaurs, prehistoric animals fossils and Asian people exhibition! Totally recommend Unsean Ocean and Dark Universe special exhibitions too
A lot to see. The showcases are beautiful with a lot of details.
Very Detailed and Educative enough. I love the Dinosaur section
Tons of stuff to see. The huge dinosaur and mammoth fossils were amazing. The lab about brains was really interesting, and you don't see actual brains everyday. You could spends weeks here learning a variety of things, if you wanted. The whole family enjoyed it
Today I spent about 4 hours in the museum. The- Oceans: Our Blue Planet big cinema 3D film is worth the trip alone. I wish it was twice as long. The cinematography was Ahhh-maxing!!! The rest of the museum was a maze of difficult to follow rooms and such, but there is lots to see....if you can find it More signage would be a huge improvement!!! Besides all the signs already up for food or gifts that is...
Staff was helpful and the price was right, free is always good in my book. I do want to return the see the T-Rex The Ultimate Predator film and the space show- Dark Universe in Planetarium. The last one I was in was in the Rueben H Fleet Space Theater in San Diego.
This museum has a bit of everything, and something for everyone. Give it a go!
Nice workers, Great tourist attraction, No problems
Great place to see soooo many awesome exhibits!! Be prepared for crowds and some exhibits require additional payment.
Huge facility with more exhibits than you can possibly see in a day. However, I felt many of the exhibits were very old and outdated and not interactive enough. The dinosaurs were probably the best part.
Definitly place "must visit" but...it is realy obsolete - no possibility to buy ticket online and stand at least 2h at line, small cloakroom so when it's full you have to carry with you all your coats, backpacks and umbrella, no lockers. And ofc extreamly overloaded by people.
This is truly one of the best natural history museums in the world! The ethnographic display of different cultures is absolutely amazing with artefacts and amazing costumes from all over the world! The South American collection is particularly incredible. Work your way up the floors to the amazing dinosaur exhibition which is not as breathtaking as when you first walk in and admire the skeletons in the main hall.
The museum exhibits were wonderful! The organization and overall customer service was not great. We purchased tickets ahead and had to wait in the rain to get inside and once in waited in line without any directions where to go and no attendants available.
The food court is awful, and I am not one to write poor reviews. It was extremely high priced- $80.00 for 4 people. I wished I would have eaten the cliff bar I packed instead because I felt sick after eating there . It really was terrible.
Great place to bring family. Expect to spend a good part of the day there.
This has been my favorite museum since going there in 3rd grade, while living in Levittown, NY. It was a field trip, and my first big bus ride! Coming into the main hall was something that got my attention, then, and now - Yes the T-Rex. Even in a bony state it was awesome and a bit scary. My most recent visit was this past summer, and it was changed from my penultimate visit, about 8 years previous. But it was still wonderful. Kids of that age 8-12, seem to be most taken with all of the wonder, variety and uniqueness of the different displays...well, it can be magical when working on those young, impressionable minds. It was probably why I ended up getting a degree in Geology, and specializing in paleontology.
I urge you to make this a visit when you come to the Big Apple to see the sights (sites!), and even if you don't have kids, stand next to some when viewing things, in case you'd feel strange as a lone adult looking at neat things around dozens of younger creatures. It doesn't bother me, just enjoy and socialize with the docents and others who seem amenable to interacting with you.
Enough amazing stuff to keep you interested for most of the day,
A lot of things seemed aimed at kids but the numerous dinosaur skeletons can easily bring out the inner eight-year-old in any man.
Had an incredible time here. Make sure you give yourself at 3 hours as there is so much stuff available!
Great museum. The directions were not that great once in the museum. Easy place to get lost.
Our kids were bored. It lacks interactivity. Their favourite part were the gemstones. The Bronx Zoo was far more exciting.
My family and I LOVE this museum. It has something to spike everyones interest. We go all of the time. Its so big and filled with information you never get sick of going.
Amazing museum! We've spent 5 hours here, and we left only because we couldn't stand anymore! This is a pay as you wish place.
Place is great, we are members, but parking check out is horrible. Please set up a machine or add more people on the parking check out! Had to extend the rental only because the line was taking too long!
Another great NYC museum. You can easily spend the whole day here and not see everything. So many exhibits, so many building wings. Definitely a little something for everyone. Make sure you have good footware on, lots of walking, standing and reading. Loved this place, architecture is pretty amazing as well.
Great place to visit; the dioramas are well made and professional. A great place to enjoy with family and friends. When the Museum has a special or theme based exhibition it is a Must go as these projects are worked on by artists, sculptors, designers and such they are well made and take months to develop a reading or excerpt explaining the time period and what is depicted. Truly amazing.
Huge range of displays and exhibits for a very reasonable entry fee.
Could have spent much longer there, but was pleased with everything we managed to see.
Of particular interest was the discovery room. It's aimed at kids but adults will find it fascinating too, especially the upstairs area (kids 8 and over only up here) where you can view a variety of creatures and items under microscopes while the science is explained to you. Our host upstairs was Barbara and she was do knowledgeable and friendly.
Highly recommend a visit here if visiting New York.
Super big and extremely interesting. They have four floors to explore, and very detailed display.
Unfortunately I was there one hour before they closed, but I still rushed through a good amount of the exhibits. Wish I didn't have to do that.
You don't have to pay a lot money to go in. They have this name your price tickets, and the girl who helped me was so friendly, I couldn't believe I was in Manhattan New York.
Will come again.
You come here for the main attraction but you have to pay to see it some are up stairs but you have to pay to see the t-Rex it s not fair
Amazing museum.
The museum is very well maintained, everything is clean and it's really easy to find exhibitions.
The dinosaurs are amazing. It's not crowded. You can easily spend between 4 to 5 hours strolling around the museum's rooms.
A most place to go in New York
What can you say about this place. Some of my fondest childhood memories...and now it is a treat to take my own child to see the greatest collection of dinosaur bones and stuffed animals in the world.
Amazing place to visit with children. Lot's of fun.
Incredibly interesting museum that felt a little like a science centre. Extensive rock, mineral and precious gem collection, and meteorites.
This is a super fun museum that is a must if you visit New York City. It is definitely a full day activity and there are a lot of interesting activities to do and exhibits to look at. I would recommend doing the overnight stay because it really just gives you a different feel for the museum and you get to see everything at night.
