Awesome museum to visit. This was my second time visiting and I had a wonderful time exploring the history of this museum all over again. The exhibits are well thought of and vividly brings each theme to life. A must place to visit with family and friends. Hard to explore the museum in a day as there are so many exhibits to see. So much to learn.

An incredible jewel of NYC, covering all major historical points through time! My favorite spots are the giant blue whale in the first floor and the Teddy Roosevelt statue in the basement. One of the hidden secrets to this wonderful museum is up on the 4th floor past all the dinosaurs, which has a quiet alcove that looks out over Central Park - an absolutey wonderful vista to end the day

Best place ever. I wish I could live here. There's so much to see I definitely need to go back and see everything again. The space and time exhibit is so cool with the 3D Big Bang simulation. So cool to see all of the African art and artifacts. I wish I lived in NY so I could go all the time !

A very huge museum that contains many exhibits. There are three floors here. The American Museum of Natural History was founded in 1869 thanks to the efforts of the American naturalist Albert S. Bickmore, who worked as a student in the Harvard Museum of Comparative Zoology with the Swiss zoologist Jean Louis Agassis.

It is dated, dusty and overpriced. Most exhibits have not been updated since 70. The map is non-interactive, so it is not always easy to figure out where to go next and how to get there. The video they show in planetarium is not property adjusted for the curvature of the projection dome so everything looks distorted. Cafeteria is dirty, pricey and does not have any healthy choices. It is museum of the museum - it shows you how museums used to look and function before computers were introduced. The collection of the dinosaur bones is pretty good.

This museum is my new love! I spent here only 7,5 hours - it's a very little time for this museum. If you wanna see everything you should spend 1 day for 1 floor (the museum has 4 floors)

Fun fact. The museum has a massive collection of artifacts that are relative to numerous species on the planet as well as some species that have been extinct for many many years. You can also find intriguing exhibitions that change througout the year and focus on differing animals, plants and time periods. Journey through the universe in the spectacular Rose Center for Earth and Space. Walk through a re-creation of an African rain forest in the Hall of Biodiversity.

Great place to spend the day. Lots of animal exhibits. We did the planetarium show and loved it. Wished we could of met Neil Degrass Tyson(SP?). The layout is a bit confusing and the cafes are overpriced. It's more of a if you've done it, you don't need to do it again.

Great place to visit for tourists and families. Some great exhibits. We really liked the Dark Universe show on the huge projection on the domed hemispherical ceiling. Also really liked the displays on meteorites and rocks and geology.

This was a great way to spend a cold afternoon. If you have the time, however, it would take days to see everything. I very much like the donation based admission for general admissions only

Located near Central Park, the museum is such a treasure where people can get lost for whole day. I spent about 4 hours and still there was so much to see and learn. My kids were so excited and asked lot of questions.
My first time in any museum which I found exciting and knowledge trove.

I had a pretty nice experience. Only a couple of hours to spend here so it was very rushed, didn't see every single thing on display, but was able to walk the entire place. You can buy tickets online to avoid the line, but you can't pay less if you wanted to do that, you must wait in line. It was quite crowded buy it was also mid summer. Sat under the whale for a while and relaxed.

Don't know why, but I didn't have to wait at all (I arrived at 15:00 o clock). You can pay as much as you want for your ticket.

Defenitely worth a visit as the sceneries and exhibitions are really one of a kind! Especially the first floor blew me away. Right know there is also an exhibition called unknown oceans which you should check out too!! But be there before 16:30!

Wow. So much to see at AMNH. Can be a bit crowded, but the displays are just great. We did not enjoy the current Color exhibit, but were very impressed with the Volcanoes film. Take your children!

AMNH is great for locals and visitors of any age. It's not cheap, but you can easily spend an entire day here and membership is a good value if you're local or visit a few times a year. My kids (3 & 5) love the discovery room. I find the cafeteria to be overpriced, but it's easy to pack a lunch and eat outside (as long as the weather is cooperative). The app is helpful when you're exploring, but sometimes the wi-fi drops and then it's pretty much useless.

Awesome. Avoid on crowded days. Requires full day to cover it fully. Big bang theory is good one. Bit confusing pathways. However, app works great for navigation. They have at least one water fountain.

Love, LOve, LOVe, LOVE this museum! Its sooo educational and fun for kids and all ages! I always get lost in time whenever I go here just so much to learn, and ooohhhh and ahhhhh about! Hungry during your visit? No problem! Their lunch room menu is tasteful and reasonably price! You will roll, (not walk) yourself out full and content from the delishousness! A must visit!

Even though the museum has really impressive and interesting things you can see, the organization is just poor. First of all, the museum is too big, so it's really disappointing that there are too many mistakes on the maps and there is no way you find someone to ask. Moreover, almost all the water machines were out of service, as a result you need to buy. I wouldn't suggest it, and I am really really sorry that such a nice building is not be used in the right way.

Amazing museum. Definitely visit if you're touring with kids. We spent several hours here. The dinosaur exhibit is amazing because most of the skeletons on display are completely fossils not casts as is the case with the dinosaur exhibit at the Royal Ontario Museum in Canada.

Great idea to get more folks to view the Academy, although 3-4 hours is not enough to see everything. The option for food and drinks is a nice addition. We saw maybe half of the exhibits, and it was nice to not have crowds to fight. It would have been nice to have more volunteers staffing key points to provide more backgrounds information, as I did appreciate the one near the Anaconda and the parrots in the Rainforest.

There are some nice elements to the museum, but many more that are a bit chaotic. The flow is all over the place and the food option is probably the worst I have experienced at any other museum or theme park. $80 gets you plates of food that are not worth touching. You are better off starving yourself while there and go to a fancy restaurant afterwards.

Really great Museum. My biggest complaint was that it was really difficult top find our way around. 6 of us with maps. Wayfinding signage not great. Place is huge, and a maze. Also, the main temporary exhibits have names that don't align with the location of the exhibit on the maps. It was super-crowded too. Shoulder to shoulder. The food court food was not good either.

Finally made it here for a date on Sunday afternoon and it was really fun. Priorities to check out the dinosaurs and the space area. And they start kicking you out about 30 minutes before close so plan accordingly.

Amazing collection of artifacts and preserved animals, please note that if you purchase tickets from the counter you can pay any amount you want for the general admission tickets instead of the full amount. Each floor has an abundance of collections to last at least 3 - 5 hours per floor. The mineral exhibit located in the first floor is closed until fall of 2019.

Incredible place with so much history to explore. Worth the ticket price. My recommendation is have a plan when you enter the building and keep a map on hand. It's too big of a place not to have a route in mind. Seems like there's a lot of opportunities to add interactive displays in many of the exhibits as well.

Like most museums, there are many wings. Some species and insects have wings! Now, I know you must be wondering if you can visit the dinosaur exhibit during covid. Well I can say you bet Jurassican! And it was exactly what you would imagine, splendid. My favorite was the smilodon.

This place is so epic bro like actually I could spend days at a time in this museum. I used to go all the time when I was little and now I go up to NY to visit and I will always come back to this museum every time because of how much stuff it has to offer. This place is so amazing and I highly suggest really taking the time to sit there and read about all the different species and learn about the history of earth and the universe. Instead of just walking around and naming the animals and touching the fossils actually read and learn lol. Also the food is very very expensive so I would suggest eating before or after a visit there. Super awesome museum one of my favorite places on earth.

I have been to this museum many times and it has always been a very good experience. However, yesterday Dec.29 was a total disaster. It was a pure money grab by the museum. They let in way, way to many people. It was like being on a subway in the museum! It was loud, hot and was total chaos in the Ocean Room. It was a very disappointing time day at the museum. I would avoid on holiday weekends.

Very old and outdated.

Very old and outdated.

Very interesting exhibits completely miss their potential due to unattractive and outdated explanations and presentation methods.

It seems that multimedia and VR has completely passed this place.

The T. rex special exhibit is not worth the money. Looks very amateurish and is quite small and short.

Hope they renovate and get some advice from media companies that were incorporated after 1967...

Great fun, on site food is very pricey, but basic admission is suggested, not required. You can bring your own food in, and check with your local library for discounted rates as they partner with libraries.

A must-see museum for the tourist to NYC or any person who lives in New York; Though you would be hard pressed to find any NY native who hasn't visited. The museum has so much in the way of artifacts, natural science exhibits, dioramas and of course, the most coveted items in the museum, the dinosaur exhibits. There are permanent dinosaur collections in the top levels, but there are also are recurring and special exhibitions that encompass all areas of life on the natural spectrum, probably the most interesting and least well-known, the Hall of Human Origins, which has fossils and genetic data. And of course my favorite, the Hall of Ocean Life.

This museum is amazing! Different floors for different things.. they have different cultural exhibits, animals from around the world.. like legit stuffed animals or really amazing replicas.
Personally we loved the dinosaurs exhibit the most on the fourth floor (which is also where they have a small cafe where you can get really expensive sandwiches, deserts and drinks... but everything tastes great!)
Also there's always a ton of people, so if you are claustrophobic or have bad group anxiety... either be the first one in the museum in the morning or you might want to skip this attraction.
General admission is suggested but you pay what you think it's worth... but if you want to the butterfly exhibit or the mummies or any special attraction you do have to pay the $28 suggested price.
Overall there's a ton of walking and a ton of different exhibits to see. Great place to visit with friends and family.

I always dreamt of coming here when in New York. I am an international student from Germany and will be staying here in New York for 3 weeks . Will definitely be back for more sightseeing. Immer auf meine Empfehlungen!

There are artifacts and exhibits from around the world covering multiple time periods, locations and species. The wait time is minimal and the museum is spacious, accommodating many guests with ease. If you have a large family the membership is well worth the cost if you plan to come back another time or if you do multiple additional exhibits such as the Trex experience and Dark Universe. This museum also does a great job accommodating guests in wheelchairs, there are ramps, elevators and lifts throughout.

Do not go there if it is raining!!! Absolutely crowded!
The exhibition pieces are very old. There is no example way of exploring the museum. We just ran from one area to another without knowing where we are and where to go next.
Some of the exhibition pieces are really bad enlightened. It is very hard to see something.
Most of the Special Exhibitions were not accessible with a General Admission. Those looked like being the most interesting part of the whole museum. But of course you have to upgrade your general admission to get access to these.

Been here three times in the past 21 years, two days ago being my 3rd time and each time was enjoyable. This museum has a lot of exhibits and is spacious enough to where you don't have to worry about being overcrowded.

I had a great time with my daughter and husband. We are members and booked our timed entry online. It was great being back. I have to plan to visit again to look at the other exhibits.

HUGE museum! Lovely exhibits and people at the door were friendly.
TIP: You can pay whatever you want to get inside (even go in free) but arrive early since it gets crowded the closer you get to noon!

Old dark museum that needs a renovation. It is not cheap and way to crowded. Also long waiting lines at the entrance. Animal exhibits are like a zoo with stuffed animals. Just not worth the effort.

Check to see what exhibits are open before you go, most of the diorama rooms were closed when we went due to preparing for "Night at the museum" (when they set up cots for people to sleep over in the museum). Additionally, the TRex and Saturday Sauropod room was closed due to renovation. The areas that were open were very well put together with a lot of good information. Great dinosaur displays and great space display.

Simply a massive museum with a lot of history and details. Recommend to take an entire day if you want to see the whole thing in detail. Otherwise a minimum of 4-5 hours to be able to walk through all of it.

From the exhibits to the hominids, I loved it. Going there always shows something unique and different for a change, and is always ready show you something new to learn. For the most part, you won't get bored :3 This place is always fun to go to also with Kids, although I wouldn't recommend showing them accurate human anatomy. It might scare the childhood out of them. But anyway~ Go here and fun time, why are you readin' this?

Pretty good place although London Natural History Museum is better. Entry is included in your Citypass. Go to level 4 for the best dinosaurs.

Our ticket also included to the planetarium to see a 30 min show called dark universe (must be booked ahead).

The metro station 81th street is just found the corner so there isn't much distance to walk through to go to the Museum.

Clean and good displays too with WiFi all around.

The signs and directions are not always clear and it's easy to get lost even with a map.

First of all this place require a visit from the opening time and you still cannot finish it. Marvelous place, history and science. Many shows for kids. You will leave with a very great experience. If you live in NYC, you can buy a membership to attend many events for kids. The Dinosaur with collected bones can make you feel the reality of that old time

Worth it just for the minerals collection. They also have some impressively huge dinosaur skeletons and amusingly stuffed animals and bird specimens.

Like most NY museums, to beat the crowds, visit on a week day. And you can pay what you wish for entry.

Classic monument to Teddy Roosevelt. The old-school dioramas are like a window into time. This museum could quite literally be in a museum. We liked the dinosaurs.

Protip: free for the last hour of the day!

The museum is great and a must if you love natural history. However, it s huge! You either need to plan to spend an entire day here or plan in advance what exhibits you want to see. The amount of people here sort of ruins the experience. I skipped a coupe exhibits due to the fact that it felt over crowded (fossil exhibits). The space exhibits were very disappointing.
