An amazing place to spend a day. There's so much history packed into a single building. It's impossible to do all the sections in a single day if you're the type who would read the description of every single exhibit.

The museum is great. The content and artifacts they have will surely impress and educate their audience. However, I would just recommend the management to install more signs. It is a little bit hard to navigate through.

To be clear, I am rating the museum itself, not its contents. Dinosaur bones are cool and win every time. But the overall layout, space exhibits, and lack of signage is what gives this a one star. Let me now focus on the most annoying yet easily fixable issue: signs.

For starters, the map names don't match the names of the rooms. That and the fact that there are no signs in the museum guiding you to essentis such as the restrooms are a pretty huge issue. It was literally like solving a logic puzzle when you add that to the already mislabeled map. Employees are no where and so cannot help. I think there were like 3 bathrooms here. Find one, you are a Novice Navigator. Find two, an Exceptional Explorer. All three and you are Master of the Museum. 15th century cartographers did a better job making maps than whoever was in charge of this one.

Come on, this is the 21st century. A museum in the hub of New York City. Does it have to be that hard to label maps and the locations in the building?

A wonderful museum that is showing its age. Some areas (e.g. the dinosaurs) are clearly new and updated, while others are completely run down. I was in a hallway to a restroom and there was cardboard taped on the floor to cover worn carpet. It was rather disheartening to see this, though after standing in line and hearing people insist they weren't going to be forced into paying admission (no, you don't have to pay but you really should), I can understand how the museum might be in a financial pinch to keep on top of repairs and things.

I've been to this museum a very long time ago and my advice is as follows. First admission to the museum is free and the suggested price is only a suggestion of what they would like you to donate to the museum rather than the actual entry fee. So when you go in don't feel pressured to pay what's up on the suggested price instead pay what you feel it's worth. I generally pay about $10 a ticket which is probably fair considering now most of their displays are plastic and replicas rather than actual taxidermied and old bones of animals and plant life. Also a good way to see some of the better displays is to take the elevator up and start at the top floor and work your way downward. It mostly museums with it in New York City they put the best stuff off top and the less popular items on the lower levels.

A very cool Museum! I loved the sea life exhibit along with all the animals that are frozen in their beautiful slices of their homes. This is definitely worth checking out if you find yourself with nothing to do on a cold day.

Only spent about 2 hours in the museum because of poor planning on my part. Mistakenly went to The Met and AMNH in one day after 4 days of walking Manhattan, so I was about ready to fall out. We did enjoy our visit, and I hope to be able to visit again one day, and see more. We did see the Planetarium Show, and while it was cool, I can see it being a little boring for some; I even found myself nodding off during the ~30 min. show, but that was probably related to the 4 days prior. While a nerd like me is mildly interested in dark matter and energy, I'm guessing normal people are less interested. The mineral/gem collection was really cool, but I didn't have the energy to spend as much time as I would have liked to really get the full experience. I also wished I had been able to spend more time in the earth/space part of the museum. I do wish that the pieces in the museum had more historical information. Most of the pieces lack dates and many are noted as reproductions, so it is often unclear if the piece is real or not, and how old it is. I would definitely visit again, but only after going to The Met and spending at least another full day there.

The American Museum of Natural History is an absolute treasure. It has been bringing the world and the universe to New York for over one hundred years. I have been countless times beginng in my childhood, and I still love it. There is always something new and I learn something every time I visit, but some classics always remain. The dioramas are iconic, fascinating, and truly beautiful works of art. Some have been refurbished in recent years, and the recent conservation looks great and provides updated information. The Space Show at the Hayden Planetarium is fascinating. Museum tours can bring even more information about the exhibits to life. Everyone should visit this place several times in their life.

It's a great museum with so many things to see. However they close off sections for functions without any warning. Most visitors are tourists and allocate precious time from their trip to come to the museum and pay good money to come in. Closing off sections without warning feels extremely unfair especially to tourists who can't allocate a second day to come back. Disappointing experience overall.

The most incredible museum I have ever seen. I spent a day to see it all and even wasn't enough. The best Natural History Museum on the earth? I've been in the London one which is very good and in Madrid but I think there are not as good.

A great Natural History museum! I'm from the DC area, so paying for a museum felt weird, and it was definitely expensive, but wow! What a great museum! We spent most of our time in the fossils. I've never seen such an awesome display! There was a phenomenal number and variety of fossils, and everybody enjoyed them. There was a mummy exhibit on when we toured, and it was both well done and very respectful to the mummies. The taxidermist animals we're great too, very well done, and I really enjoyed the efforts to make the displays as lifelike as possible. Sadly we weren't able to get to much more (young children get tired), but I would love to visit again in the future. A wonderful museum!

One of the best museum i have visited. The Dark Universe movie is a must watch and the diorama s of the animals are one of a kind which should not be missed at all. Make sure that you reach early because the museum is big enough and require a lot of time.

Had fun getting lost in all that the museum had to offer, especially being my first time. The butterfly exhibit was magical and by far a beautiful experience. Some areas were highly heated other than that I would highly recommend visiting.

Wonderful Museum. I have been going for years. The dinosaur fossil collection is amazing. This year we brought foreign cousins over to see it with their kids and they absolutely loved it. For the locals - this is a hit spot to take the kids on a rainy day.

We got tickets through our local library which included one of the special exhibits. At the time, they were showing an exhibit on mummies, which was very fascinating. Also, for us, we could stay in the dinosaur wing all day. We had food in the cafeteria, which wasn't great and overpriced, but overall the museum was great.

I love visiting the American Museum of Natural History. Their T- rex Exhibition showcased dinosaurs with a bit of 3-D interacting effects for some displays with loads of fun information to explore. This is fun for the adults as well as kids.

We got a city pass thinking we would by pass the line. Nope, you still have to wait for them to print out a paper ticket. There is so much cool stuff to see, but you need the entire day to see it all.

Five floors of amazing exhibits with some must see displays. So much to see you can easily spend 4-5 hours taking everything in. Went on a rainy Sunday during a long weekend - so it was quite crowded, but they move people in quickly even though there was a long line. Buy your tickets online and show the QR code on your phone to avoid waiting in ticket lines. Great choice of museum for your visit to NYC!

One of the most amazing museums I have been to! There is no entry fee to view general exhibits and you can pay any amount you like to enter. There is however a fee to view the special exhibits. It s a huge museum and it can be crowded, so it can take nearly 4 hours or more to explore the museum completely. Definitely check out the dinosaur exhibits because they are amazing!

To cut a long story short, I am incredibly relieved that my wife and I paid nowhere near the suggested combined admission of nearly fifty bucks to visit this museum. There is a lot to see but considering the suggested admission, this place is very run-down, with dirty floors and very dated displays. A lot of the museum is very poorly lit, with lightbulbs that have not been replaced and the overall impression is one of neglect. Overall, this museum is crying out for the investment it needs to be an outstanding centre of learning and inspiration. The suggested admission price can not be justified; the museum offers a similar experience to the Natural History Museum in London, which offers free admission, for example (and museums should be free anyway...). Having said that, there was evidence of ongoing modernisation at the museum, so I hope if I visit again in the future, it will be in better shape.

Wonderful place to take your kids to learn about history. We all know how kids love their dinosaurs and here is a place to see if a skeleton. I would Recommend this to any school district to take the class on a class trip.

With just about 5 minutes walk from the subway station, the American Museum of Natural History in New York City should be included in your itinerary when visiting the Big Apple. Consisting of exhibits that vary from Reptiles and Amphibians, to Earth and Planetary Sciences, to Fossils and Human Origins, the museum is perfect for both adults and kids. You may need at least 3 hours to see all the 32 million specimens of plants, humans, animals, fossils, minerals, rocks, meteorites, and human cultural artifacts. No wonder the museum is listed as one of the largest museums in the world.

A must see on your NYC trip, as far as museums go, this one has it all. Dinosaurs, ancient cultures, a display for animals and peoples of every continent. And also the admission is a "suggested price". Which means you can suggest to not pay anything if you wish. Everything you do pay for admission is a donation to the museum which I recommend contributing in order to keep this amazing place running.

Clean, staff was helpful and friendly. You cannot see it in one day. In 3-4 hours we visited 1 and a half floors.
I would recommend going a few times to get a feel for it.
Crowded and the food was overpriced, but that's the only criticism and is expected.

If you like anything to do with history from the ppl that were here to every animal that roamed around..crazy amount of exhibits, artifacts and the skeletons of dinosaurs as well as many other species of the past and prrsent are on display. It really is an amazing museum and a must see if you get the chance! Admission is what you can afford to pay as a donation. That is what it was when I visited which I thought was awesome for a museum as good as it is. It gives a chance for everyone to enjoy regardless of your financial situation. So much to see that I was not able to see everything in a full day. I definitely recommend everyone visit if possible. You will not be disappointed!

I can not express how much I love the AMoNH. It is so rad!! My family went during our trip in September and it was awesome. It was not to crowded and there was so much to do. We stayed for 4+ hours, and we did not want to leave to go to our Broadway show! (The show was Hamilton, so that shows how amazing the museum was, haha!) We got through a couple rooms, and they were all so cool. I was really infatuated with all of the rocks, gems, and minerals. I will definitely return.

One of the finest museums in the Nation. Such a huge collection of artifacts and animals. It is easy to get lost in here just exploring all the nooks and crannies that exist.

There is always a large crowd, but the space is large enough to handle almost anything, and you never feel like there are too many people in one specific area at one time.

However, unlike places like the Field Museum in Chicago, this Museum doesn't quite reach that "I'm in an ancient place" feeling for me. I'm not sure if it's a lack of funding, or skilled crafts people or what, but many of the eyes used in the taxidermy are cloudy and lifeless, which I know is a really weird thing to focus on, but it was odd to see that almost every exhibit had these cloudy strange looking eyes used in them.

Another thing that bothered me was the lack of transparency when it came to when a special event was going to disturb regular museum goers. There was a special overnight event happening for New York City Students which caused certain exhibits to close at 3pm while the staff set up for the event. This included the MASSIVE underwater/polar exhibit hall where the Blue Whale specimen is held. This was highly disappointing as I had been saving that exhibit for the end of my daughter and I's trip to the museum and we were unable to see it at all due to the shutdown. I don't begrudge the museum for having a special event, but I do wish I had known certain areas would be inaccessible after a time so I would have made them a priority earlier in the day rather than missing out entirely.

All in all this is a must visit while you're in NYC, the number of specimens is just not to be missed.

This museum in Manhattan it's pretty much a kids museum not really much for adults to go. I went to the American Museum of Natural History when I was 10 years old. This place is more expensive in this museum in Manhattan so far. They didn't have not much adult exhibits for this museum. The only thing that I like about this museum was the planetarium watching the documentary of Outer Space talking about the planets and the universe. Another thing I like in the museum is animals like whales and more. For the adults cost $22.00 and students cost $17.00. It costs us $39.00 for two people for me and my dad and that is very pricey to go this American Museum of Natural History.

Awesome museum for a rainy day. My only suggestion is to go ahead and purchase the tickets ahead of time and skip the line for tickets which can be very long. You do have the option to pay as much as you like if you wait in line. Also there is a entrance in the subway. Which apparently google maps doesn t know about.

Crikey this place is huuuuge. Went to to see the Dark Universe exhibit, that was pretty dope. Narrated by the man, the myth, the legend Neil deGrasse Tyson. If you get motion sickness pretty quickly you should skip this one. Wish the seats would recline though.. now I got a neck cramp looking at all those purty stars. As for the rest of the museum. It's allright, much of the stuff behind the glass is dusty. Food was okay but expensive. Dumb Dumb was quiet today and couldn't find Owen Wilson and the little indians.. or was that the Smithsonian?

It's probably my second favourite natural history museum after the one in London, but it was still a great and educational experience :)

Amazing experience at Night at the Museum here!!! Unforgettable times of learning and exploring from the top floor with the dinosaur fossils to the planetarium. My son and I had such a blast going from exhibit to exhibit. Cool shirts at the gift shop! So worth sleeping in the cots underneath the Blue Whale.
