Review of The Fox Theatre

I have been to the Fox to see several artists and shows. Of course the name and history of this venue make it an exciting experience. However, I was recently there to see an Anita Baker concert (which was OUTSTANDING by the way) and I was able to truly assess the theater as a whole. First of all, parking was a COMPLETE mess! It was very difficult to find a place anywhere near the theater. If you arrive 30-45 minutes before the show, this should not be a problem, but expect to pay at least $20+ for a spot. Also expect to drive around in search of your spot for a long time. You will be amongst all the other frustrated folks looking for a spot as well, which may cause you to circle around several oneway (packed) streets in order to finally get your space. Even though you spend quite a bit on your parking, I would advise against wearing 6in+ heels because you will still indeed be walking down the busy streets of downtown Atlanta. Once you are finally at the Fox, you are greeted by the beautiful signage which is perfect for taking great pics. Then you must go through security, bag check and ticketing. I suggest you have your tickets printed out and ready upon arrival. The theatre in itself is beautiful, however expect to climb stairs, and if sitting in a balcony or middle of the row, you may be up and down in order to let people in and out throughout the show. This can be frustrating, because there is a bar and people get up regularly to get drinks. The bathrooms are pretty spacious and clean and the greeters are super friendly and helpful with getting you to your correct seat. The stage can be seen well from every seat, however if guests in front of you want to stand up (to dance and sing in this case) your view will be blocked significantly. I was disappointed about this, but there is really nothing you can do about that. The sound is pretty decent and they seem to offer great lighting and all the bells and whistles found at this type of venue. Structurally the age of this building is really starting to show. It may be time for a huge update or even deep clean, but overall, it's the Fox. It is always nice to say you were there, just wish it was as elegant as the days of old.
