Hotel Pierre Dissatisfied with the "democratization of public manners", the French restaurantman Charles Pierre Casalasco organized a group of financiers to build a hotel. Built on the site of the old Gerry Mansion, Pierre, as it would soon be called, climbed 41 floors and cost about 15 million dollars (an extravagant sum at that time). Designed by Schultze and Weaver, its greatest The capture feature is a model inspired by the Royal Chapel of Mansart in Versailles. The society entered into force for its opening in 1930 and Pierre quickly earned a reputation as one of the best hotels in the city for a while. However, the great depression wreaked havoc on Pierre and went bankrupt in 1932, just two years after its opening. J. Paul Getty ended up buying it in 1938 and turned some of the hotel rooms into apartments. Since its conception, despite its fiscal difficulties, Pierre has attracted many notable inhabitants, including (to name a few) Sumner Redstone, Edward St. Aubyn and Aristotle Onassis.
