It is one of the oldest in all of Russia. Its rich history is linked to the names of eminent men of Russian culture and art. Built by Cavos in 1859 it is the greatest theater in the city for opera and dance.
He baptized the masterpieces of all the great Russian composers of the nineteenth century, saw the world's most famous wands pass on the podium and the most famous dancers danced. At the time of its construction the theater was called Bolshoj (Big) or Kamenny (of Stone); in Soviet times it was known all over the world under the name of Kirov.
