My wait in ER lobby was horrific. 6+ hours. 5 of which I was not even acknowledged. They put an IV into my arm, sent me to the lobby, then lost my orders for CT and blood work. I was never given the pain medication, order by the DR. And only went to CT scan 6 hours later, when night shift dr noticed front end staff errors. The front end staff seemed very overworked and terribly rude. There were at least 2 drugged up, non patients, allowed to come and go, while panhandling and intimidating patients. I became worried when I heard nurses talking about how these guys had been coming there all week, trying to get pain meds and bugging patients. Later I witnessed 2 elderly ladies in tears, coughing and gagging in their own phlegm. One of these sat with an empty oxygen tank, begging for a nurse to take her to tge restroom. Another lady, whom arrived prior to myself, spent hours throwing up and at one point defecated in her nightgown, without so much as a side look from the ER staff. This same woman sobbed and begged for some help. There were screaming toddlers and several crying mothers. I was astonished at the rudeness of much of tge staff, when these same women couldn't hear their names being screamed by the tech/nurse calling on them. Once I finally received a bed, all was sorted out by my amazing nurse, LEAH. She and the 4
year resident were so fantastic! !!! The ER Dr., however, was less than helpful. He sent me for tests, couldn't see my appendix and found a extremely large cyst on my ovary. When I asked him to contact my Dr. He said he would not. He also sent me home without pain medication. He advised me to call my pcp and hopefully he could send me for another scan, maybe find my appendix. I went home 12 hours after checking in. My ob, Dr. Tykocki, was able to see me, the next day. I had surgery, only 2 days later and am on my way to recovery. I am so disappointed in the hospital ER. I get being short staffed and even understand poor bedside manner, but incompetence in medical staff, is unacceptable. One of elderly ladies died, while I was there. I can't help but wonder if she were simply ignored and might have been better off at a different ER. But for RN, Leah and the lady resident, this place was awful. Thanks Leah, for being a great nurse! My husband and I were thankful for you.
