Last year I found myself approaching the tax filing date with several years of unfiled returns, unpaid taxes, and many Certified Letters from the IRS. I reached out to Community Tax and am so glad I took that action. If you think you can negotiate on your own behalf, take a minute to think it through. First of all, you have to contact the IRS. On a good day, you will probably stay on hold for 45 minutes plus. Then, when you finally get someone with whom to talk, you will probably find that they are not particularly understanding of your situation. I could not submit myself to going through that kind of angst.
Upon contacting Community Tax, I immediately found an advocate. No judgement, just let me help you. Not only did they complete and file my returns, they negotiated a payment plan that would allow me to continue to pay my bills and have money left over for day to day expenses.
