Pam Review of Genesys Regional Medical Cente...

My husband was rushed to Ascension Genesys a month ago because he was having symptoms of a stroke. The ER staff did not order a CT or MRI. Instead, they admitted him. After several days, and very few tests, my husband could no longer walk on his own. He was declining fast. I was to the point of having my husband moved to a different hospital to get the care he needed. It was not until after my brother who is a neurologist (out of state) asked the hospitalist to do an MRI that things started to change for the better. The results were just as we had suspected. He had evidence of several mini-strokes. In addition, from the point where we got the patient advocate, case manager, neurologist, nephrologist, and cardiologist involved, I became much happier at Ascension Genesys.
I cannot express the importance of the doctors working as a team. That was not happening at first. They should be meeting together regularly about the patients.
I would also like to give Kudos to our favorite nurse who went above and beyond...Sue Gilson on the Telemetry floor. She was compassionate, proactive, encouraging and extremely professional.
The rehab. therapists were great as well in Inpatient Therapy. Our favorite Physical Therapist was Melissa Cate. She was professional, proactive, kind, and encouraging. She taught me how to help my husband and her training even allowed him independence when he came home.
It has been an emotional experience at Ascension Genesys. Will we be back? I'm not sure at this time. I do really hope that there are improvements made.
