We met my mother at the service department today. She came in for an oil change and before we got there they had convinced her to get a fuel induction cleaner service for $180. First I can tell you that a car with only 29k miles does not need this service. I don t care how many miles your car has if it s not misfiring or rough idling it doesn t need this service. Then they persuaded her to replace the cabin air filter even though it s not recommended until 40k miles. She came in for an oil change and by the time she left her bill was $345 for mostly unnecessary services. This is an example of a service department taking advantage of their customers that are not well informed. Sadly, these sorts of shady practices are standard across the industry. I would recommend anyone seeking car service first check maintenance schedules in their owners manuals. If the service department recommends something not in these schedules and the car is running ok then you don t need it. I had previously believed that Landers McClarty was better than this, but apparently, if they feel they have a live one they ll immediately pounce.
