If I could give this ER a zero rating I would. They were terrible! I arrived with my adult son whom was having difficulties with his abdominal hernia. He was in excruciating pain, could not hold down fluids or food & with a high fever. We checked in at 2:15 am. My son was so thirsty & no one instructed him NOT to drink any water. As a result, he filled (2) of the throw up bags that I retrieved from the ER counter help. After each time I took the filled bag & asked when is someone going to see my son as I handed them the filled bag of vomit. It was obvious he was obstructed & had been for quite sometime. The fever reflected a possible infection starting. I was informed by the counter help that my son was not an emergency & that people arriving by ambulance will be seen first. After the 2nd bag full of vomit, I asked again & they stated he was not as much of an emergency as the patients that were arriving by ambulance & that he needs to just wait his turn. They were very rude & very non-sypathetic to the situation. My son just couldn't take it any more. So I made the decision to cut off his hospital ER bracelet right there at the counter, told them what I was doing & I drove him all the way down to Royal Oak Beaumont. Royal Oak Beaumont immediately got him checked in to a bed in the ER & was being seen by a Physician before I even finished parking my car. Come to find out that both his colon & intestine was sticking out of his hernia & because it had been out so long & with a fever it was decided he needed emergency surgery with hopes he didn't have permanent damage from his trip to Genesys Hospital. Thank God there wasn't. I will never go to this hospital ever again! The rudeness & uncaring staff help at the front ER desk was unbelievable! No one came out to check on him, no one tried to help him, no one even addressed him as he kept throwing up. What a horrible & frightening experience to say the least. Those people were more concerned about chatting with each other than they did about the people that were in the waiting room.
