Enormous Macy s in downtown Chicago. This Macy s on State St. in downtown Chicago is a huge maze of shopping. We specifically walked from our hotel to visit this Macy s on a chilly day; it wasn t too hard to find, as it takes up a whole city block. The outdoor signage and condition of the exterior were a little lacking and, in general, the facility looks a little worn inside and out. However, the store is indeed floors upon floors of shopping with a wide scope of offerings and brands that should satisfy most department store shopping needs. It s so large, it can be kind of a maze to navigate, and the signage indoors is also lacking. If you need to find a specific department/brand or even the restroom, it s best to ask one of the staff. The staff overall were decent although we had encounters with staff who were less than helpful. In one instance, we tried to get the attention of a group of staff who were chit-chatting loudly and not paying attention to the customers. In another instance, we asked for directions to a restroom and got bad directions. The selection and prices were very good. The store features many bargains, some in large mark-down areas and some dotted throughout the departments, which can satisfy the bargain shoppers who enjoy the hunt for gold. The fitting rooms were clean but lacked the reject clothing racks in the common areas that you d expect in a large department store. On our visit, some floors of the store were very cold requiring us to wear our coats; I think they were replacing windows, which is a baffling thing to do in the cold Chicago weather on a busy weekend shopping day. Overall, this is a good department store to find what you re looking for, maybe even at an especially great bargain or unique item, but this Macy s is definitely rough at the edges in areas of service and facility.
