Rating can be higher if you consider the value only. First i would like to confirm that i would stay here again if i were to visit south beach again. It's not on ocean drive but just around the block. Literally 50 steps from the busiest part of ocean drive. It might be hard to notice because the tall sign on the rooftop says Tiffany. The name the Hotel of South Beach can be found near the entrance but it's not easily noticeable. Small room with laminate flooring and a small bathroom. It's a historic building (I believe) so it was built according to different standards with no attention to noise or sound proofing. It's very noisy and you hear everything in the streets and rooms around you including your neighbor snoring! Our room was on the second floor above the restaurant which kept playing beat music most of the night and then they restart at 8 AM! The main advantage of this place is that it's clean and in the middle of the action with easy access to all restaurants, pubs and the beach. You don't need to take anything with you to the beach because they reserve a chaiselong and a towel for you there. Just look for the Kiosk near the white and blue striped umbrellas on the breach (to the left of the beach entrance) to confirm and register your name. Notice that while the chaiselong and towel are free, the umbrella would cost you $20 if you choose to take one. Other more expensive options like the $100 cabana are also avaliable!
Parking is valet only at the hotel at the cost of $38 per day. The advertised self parking for $18 per day is for a public garage nearby which is only one block away near "Vans" on 7th street and Collins. It's not bad but it should've been made clear at the hotel webpage. You can buy the daily garage pass from the hotel at check in. I was told that i was lucky since i got the last one they had. You'd better check before you visit if you would have a garage pass or not.
For check-ins and check-outs, use temporarily the loading and unloading parking spots (2 available) around the hotel's corner on Collins street. Finally, there's a lot to explore in this area, make sure to check ocean drive, Collins street and Washington Street and of course Lincoln Road Mall which is about 15 minutes away on foot.
