My 2016 Hyundai Sonata Sport 2.0T lease was up. I ...

My 2016 Hyundai Sonata Sport 2.0T lease was up. I was considering buying it out, but I saw online that Colonial Hyundai had a used 2010 Genesis Coupe that caught my eye. The Colonial Price was $9,790.

Ted was my salesman. He was deceitful the ENTIRE process.

1. READ BEFORE YOU BUY A USED CAR: For used vehicles, there is an additional $990 CASH OR TRADE REFLECTED IN ALL PRE-OWNED VEHICLE PRICING. Whatever Colonial Price you re seeing is misleading advertisement. So in my case, $9,790 + 990 = $10,780.

2. Some backstory: My lease allowed me 30,000 miles. My odometer read 36,000. Hyundai would charge me $0.20 per mile I went over. So basically I would receive a bill later for $1600.

Me: Can you do anything to cover the cost of this fee?

Ted: Yea, we ll cover it for you. If we cover this for you, do we have a deal?.

Me: If you tell me that you ll pay off the $1600, I will buy the Genesis for $10,500. I can make an $1000 down payment and will finance the car.

Keep in mind, I was under the impression that I was going to get this deal for $10,500 without taxes and fees.

Ted: Congratulations! We have a deal!
Me: Thank you. Can you please print out the financial breakdown of each cost (vehicle price, taxes, fees, etc).
Ted: Yea yea of course.

He forgets. I proceed to ask him 3 more times to print me out a financial breakdown of costs before I sign anything. Each time, he forgets or intentionally avoids this. Instead, he hurries and grounds my leased car and tells me I can take my belongings out of my leased Sonata and transfer it to the Genesis Coupe.

Later on, after I transfer my belongings over, I walk into the financial lady s office to see the financial breakdown. Ted added on the $1600 (THAT HE SAID I WOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY) to my financial contract. Essentially, I m financing that added cost as well. Before we made the deal, I asked him numerous times, Will you pay for this fee? If you do, I will buy the car at the quoted $10,500.

I was highly upset, and Ted s response to me towards the end of my signing was: Oh we are paying for that fee. When you get the bill for $1600, we ll pay that off upfront. Don't you remember me saying that to you? BUT you ll be paying that cost in your contract. Don't you remember? His tone was EXTREMELY condescending.

HE USED VERBAL TACTICS/VAGUENESS TO GET ME TO AGREE. HE DID NOT GIVE ME THE DEAL WE AGREED UPON.

So instead of the vehicle price as $10,500, he put it in as $12,164.

3. Ted lied about the APR I was approved for. He said: You re approved for 6.9%. WRONG. The financial lady tells me my APR is 8.9%.

4. When I was in the financial lady s office, Ted walked in numerous times huffing, puffing, irritated sounding. He wasn t trying to do anything to make my deal fair. He never apologized until AFTER I signed the papers. His words: Apologizes for the confusion. He was highly unprofessional. Worse yet, he used deceitful tactics. The financial lady was transparent about everything, which I appreciated. But Ted was dishonest, unethical, and disorganized/rushing throughout the whole sales process.

5. As you can see from Kelly Blue Book, I got an UNFAIR DEAL. It was a complete rip off. And I m sure Ted was happy about this.

I purchased the car because I had been dealing with Ted and this awful experience for 5 hours. It was nearly 8PM. So unless Colonial Hyundai pays that precise difference of $1600, I will NEVER be doing business here again. I am disgusted.
