Overall my stay was pleasant. I will explain both why it received and earned every bit of these four stars, and why it does not deserve a fifth star.

For why they earned their four stars:

- the hotel is georgeous
- the room was big and spacious
- the bed was comfortable as far as hotel beds go
- the location was fantastic (near the LA Convention Center, good restaurants, middle of downtown, etc.)
- the staff was all very courteous and helpful

For why they did not earn the fifth star:

- the fitness center left something to be desired. There was one treadmill, one bike, and one eliptical. That's it. No weights and barely enough room for for the machines.
- they nickel and dime you on everything. Here are a few examples: the only breakfast offered is a buffet. In trying to save a few dollars and partially out of convenience, I ordered breakfast to my room. I order the $11 oatmeal. The oatmeal itself was quite good. But the price, it came out to almost $19. They automatically add an admin fee, a service fee, and a delivery fee. I mean, an almost 50% increase. Next, when you check in, they tell you about the minibar. It is pressure sensored. So if you move anything, even accidentally bump it, you have to pay for it. Or, if you move stuff out to put in your items to refrigerate them (it's the only refrigerator in the room), there is a $50 restocking fee.
- Lastly, the internet was AWFUL! I was there for 3 days and 2 nights. For the entire period, the internet was bad. It's a free and open wifi so I'm guessing that a lot of people in the area (which is a lot of people when there are conventions and concerts) use the wifi and it slows it down. If you need to do work or just want to be able to cruise the internet, this will not fit the bill.

Again, overall it's a very nice hotel but there are a few things that are definitely worth knowing before you book here.
