Overall, lackluster, but has potential.

Overall, lackluster, but has potential.
Wife had wanted to go here for several months, on account of rumors of live jazz music and fun cocktails.
Decided to come with our in laws.
First the pros: Culver hotel is a historic, very interesting building in a cute area, and I do like live music. Wine was inoffensive.
Cons: Let me start with this: for the entire duration of our two and a half hour stay we saw our waiter 5 times. Not bad you say? Our waiter came to take our drink order less than 4 minutes from when we were seated. We needed more time. He showed up two minutes later. We didn't see him again for 25 minutes. We ordered our wine, and hoped for the best. If only we had got up and left at this point.
Another 20 odd minutes pass, and no sign of our waiter. I get up, and track down a random waiter, grabbing one at a wait station. Another ten minutes later, we grabbed a different waiter and requested they find our waiter. Finally, after yet another 10 minutes our prodigal waiter returns with our wine (right as we decided to eat somewhere else), apologizing profusely. While it's worth being said that they appeared to be busy, he had obviously completely forgotten about us (even admitted as much), and I'm certain that we would have waited much longer without service.

This level of service continued throughout the meal. Our entrees began being brought out, frustratingly, one at a time, with at least an eight minute wait between each of our meals making it to the table. To add insult to injury, most were cold, and the brussel sprouts tasted like horseradish? The waiter swore that couldn't be the case, but something had definitely gone wrong.

They did take the brussel sprouts off, it deserves to be said, since we barely touched it.

The food was overpriced for what it was. I've paid less for much better food at restaurants with much worse of a reputation.

They have live music, but we sat outside. I expected them to play the live music over their speaker system, but instead we listened to top 40 Christmas music for an extended period of time before it was blissfully replaced by generic club beats.

The men's downstairs restroom sink didn t work, and the other restroom only had one stall. Didn't bother me, but the women's upstairs restroom was out of order as well.

Not sure whether or not it was just an unfortunate circumstance with our dinner being within a week and a half of Christmas, but the outside deck was tremendously crowded with people standing uncomfortably close to our table for most of the meal. While this isn't necessarily the fault of the restaurant, I'm not sure why they didn't manage the seating situation/reservations better since there were other areas with places to sit. Needless to say, it was loud and surprisingly boisterous for such an austere setting.
If you re still reading, know that I rarely give out bad reviews. It was simply the juxtaposition of such a nice building with terrible service and food that prompted me to make this write up. If you're coming here, get a cocktail at the class bar and listen to some live jazz, then go eat at the fried chicken place across the street.
