My iPhone was completely wiped clean by a consultant. She did not adequately explain to me that's what was going to happen. I am upset about the lack of communication about the extent of data that would be erased. She told me my phone would be "restored" and asked me if I had backed it up to the cloud (which I had), but I lost all my text messages, all my voice memos, all my voice mails, and all the data that automatically allowed me to sign in to apps. The cloud backup took 12 hours (which at least brought back my photos and contacts) but I was not informed that this would happen ahead of time.
I was upset when I left the store, and told the consultant that she did not properly communicate to me what would happen by "restoring" my phone. I suppose the onus is on the customer to ask more questions and understand what you're doing when you ask someone to fix what seems to be a simple glitch/slow down in your text messages.
The further I get into trying to access information that I had previously used daily, the more frustrated I become. I know that this is just a phone. I know that in the scheme of things I should not be so attached to these things. So many things were lost, though, including insights, thoughts, and a lot of work.
Lessons learned: ask more questions and if you have something that's important (like thoughts or memories or insights or philosophies), make sure you have a backup... I just invested in another paper journal.
