We rented a studio on the fourth floor for 2 days. The location is exceptional. Getting the key was manageable. After getting off the elevator, walking down the hall, there was a noticeable stench of stale, warm air. It was a bit unconcerning at first, but as we approach the apartment door, I had a sinking feeling that the unit had no A/C. My suspicions were confirmed when I walked into the stuffy apartment. The floors were dirty, the kind that makes your socks black, and we were met with cheap and worn IKEA furniture that was too small for the room. We put our bags down, realizing this was a studio, not a one bedroom apartment. A pony wall overlooking the kitchen/living room, covered in dust no less, was our only privacy. The ONE window in the unit overlooks the roof and other open windows to other apartments. We turn on the TV, keeping it low not to bother the other tenants (i ll get into that later), and i notice there is BASIC cable. I have to stare at this tiny apartment with no view, to sit with a glass of wine watching PBS. The pinnacle of the experience? I wanted to simply wash my city-dirty workout clothes in the superb washer/dryer setup to find a used sandwich bag of nondescript, yellow, half-melted wet pods, which I am bravely assuming to be detergent, with 2 loose dryer sheets lying on a shelf. I am so desperate for clean underwear that I take the chance to use what the owner (or some other tenant) left there. All night long, there is a tenant directly upstairs POUNDING on the floor. There is a concrete partition between floors, so i am confused how I heard so clearly a pounding upstairs. Maybe the workout room is above? We were tossing and turning in the very low profile queen bed on carpet that has seen a few dogs. When my husband told me what this cost, I was disgusted. Go stay at one of the Hyatts or the Paramount or another hotel. You will have less privacy , but at least you will have fresh linens and toiletries, better cable and just walk a couple extra blocks to get to the ocean.
