Here's my experience with Avery residence hall so far

Pros:
- Very large rooms compared to many other dorms on campus
- Very close to Rams dining hall (a minute walk away)
- You can watch baseball games from the balcony, or even your own room
- 10-15 minute walk to class

The problems I have had so far:
- Cockroach fell on my face while I was sleeping. Cockroaches all around the suite and dorm.
- Drawer broken - does not close
- Desk light broken
- Room light is about to break, extremely loud and obnoxious
- A/C unit broke, had to get replaced
- Deteriorating wall and ceiling. Mold and water seeping through ceiling.
- Incredibly thin walls. You can hear EVERYTHING, even with your doors and other's doors closed
- No elevator
- Have to cross a street everyday where often drivers do not notice/care about you

Most of these problems can easily be fixed or dealt with. However, the part of Avery that I find the most unbearable is the people that live here. I have had an AWFUL experience. Thin walls allow you to hear everything and more. Doors being slammed at 3 AM, drunk people yelling when you have to wake up tomorrow at 8 AM. You can FEEL your neighbors playing their music because of how thin these walls are. There are also some insufferable people in Avery - it seems that this dorm attracts them. People leave trash EVERYWHERE and litter the halls and stairs. There is an awful smell on my floor that just will not go away. Cockroaches everywhere because residents don't know how to throw away their trash. Infact, I just recieved an email saying how if people would not pick up their trash, they will fine THE ENTIRE DORM. Many residents have no idea of respecting other people and act worse than high schoolers. I will be glad to move out of this dorm (even if that means I have to pay for half of the remaining rent). If you are someone who has no respect for others, the university, or the environment, then Avery Residence Hall will be the perfect fit for you!
