Nancy Arellano Review of Woodmark Hotel
Still Spa Review (only)
Still Spa Review (only)
There is a lot of little details about the spa that I personally believe lower the overall experience of the spa. The women s locker room has a beautiful cedar sauna for use but there is no drinking water anywhere in the locker room. If you want a cup of water you have to get out of the women s locker room and walk all the way to the relaxation room (30 ft maybe) but still a lot of work for a glass of water or to refill it. There is also no visible extra towels, you have to ask the receptionist and then she shows you they are in one of the personal lockers (unmarked). They have a lovely rain shower, personally I had never used one like the one here. I could not figure out the temperature and there was not instructions anywhere in the locker room.
The water drinking station in the relaxation room (which is behind a curtain) has tea selections, tea cups & sugars but no hot water. If you want a cup of hot water you need to ask the receptionist which she was nice enough to get but the front desk is at the entrance to the spa (obviously). The entrance has a large door and windows (not tinted) to a busy waterfront street. Personally i don t like walking around in my robe just to ask for a 6oz cup of hot water (tiny cup). Also since the receptionist is the only taking drink orders (yes she also gets the champagne) she isn t always at the desk. When we arrived to the spa it took 5-10 minutes before she greeted us.
The relaxation room is a shared coed experience with a tv fireplace. It has 4 comfort chairs (each corner of the room) and 2 smaller chairs ( uncomfortable chairs). If you want to enjoy the experience with someone by sitting next to them one gets a comfortable chair and the other does not unless you sit across the room. The fire place looked like a gas fireplace that should be admitting heat but it didn t. The women s locker does not have even one relaxation chair if you did not want to take part of the coed experience.
I got a Bliss massage they had 4 options of aromatherapy. I thought all options were great. I always requested medium pressure at all the places that I go and my massage therapist did great at keeping the pressure. However she did not properly uncovered me when I turned from stomach to back. She uncovered me standing over my head. I also thought the room was personally to cold and when I ask for more heat she said it was at the highest.
My friend got a deep tissue massage and when she entered the room and told the therapist she wanted a firm deep tissue massage the therapist told her that she needed to inform the front desk. We are not sure why since that s exactly what we had reserved and when filling out the paperwork she had also requested firm on the form. Either way the therapist came back and my friend felt the massage was not firm enough(verbalized it too). My friend mentioned that the therapist talked the whole time which was not her preference. Her therapist also uncovered her inappropriately around her hips.
Overall I think I had higher expectations for this spa based on price, location and that it s attached to such a lovely hotel. I know that there is worse spas out there but the quality this place is trying to achieve is lost in the little details and it s hard to relax when the little things add up. I personally would not recommend it.
