Rachel M Review of Wild Dunes Resort
We just finished a week family vacation to Wild Du...
We just finished a week family vacation to Wild Dunes and stayed at the Village, which I would describe more like a condo (full kitchen, two bath) than a hotel. We were so excited to have a little beach vacation during COVID with our two young kids, but definitely be aware things are different which made it even less like a hotel and resort. We were also just a little disappointed in the resort overall. I wouldn t describe it as luxury and think it s closer to 3 stars.
Pros:
- Very nicely stocked full kitchen with very nice appliances;
- Beaches were gorgeous and not too crowded;
- Incredibly convenient location - close to the grocery and we had some incredible meals on IOP and Sullivan s, as well as enjoyed driving in to Charleston;
- Amazing water pressure in the bathrooms!
Cons:
- Our room was worn and not sparkling clean - stains on the furniture (I had to cover it with blankets), filthy rug I put up in the closet, hard beds with flimsy sheets and blankets that had pilling, and our room faintly smelled of smoke when we arrived with cigarette burns on the outdoor furniture;
- CONSTRUCTION! when I booked, I was told there was construction next door but we wouldn t see it from our room and it wasn t loud, it was finished outside and they were finishing up the inside (well, we were right next door with construction views and it was loud, preventing us from napping mid day);
- COVID precautions prevent daily House keeping, room service and all of the restaurants near the village are closed on the plaza except for a grab and go market place...so close convenient dining and the hotel type experience is limited;
- Long walk to beach from the Village (I would not describe it as close to the beach!);
- maybe they are under staffed or it was after July 4th but the grounds of the resort were dirty...lots of trash littered on the beach and pathways to the beach.
Overall, we made the most of it and enjoyed our pandemic vacation! We thought about changing resorts but with two toddlers and no bell hop service available it seemed to exhausting and our kids were just excited to play at the beach. I do not think we will be returning though.
