Danielle Turo Review of Wild Dunes Resort

My husband and I just stayed at the Wild Dunes Resort this past weekend and the stay was good, but nothing to rave about. Before booking, I called the resort to see what was open (since we are in the midst of this pandemic). They told me that the beach is open, one restaurant on property and one pool. This was great news. I booked almost immediately, though the room seemed to be a bit pricy for one night- I figured it would be worth it. When we arrived at 11am our room was ready although check-in wasn't until 4:00pm, so that was a plus. We dropped our stuff off and went to the beach. We were in the Village and there was construction right outside our window but they didn't seem to be working, so even though it was an eye-sore, the room was nice and it didn't bother us much.
But, then I called the front desk to see what pool was open that they previously mentioned over the phone...they said none of the pools were open yet. When I asked where the restaurant was on property that was open, they said none of the restaurants were open on property. When we had no other choice but to get ready and venture into town, we discovered there was no hot water. So cold showers were not exactly thrilling. It took about an hour and a half for them to come to our room to "fix" the issue.
After we left, I checked my bank account to make sure I was appropriately charged. To my surprise, there was 14% tax that was excluded, 16% resort fee that was excluded and a destination fee that was excluded. I read the reviews and was concerned about this but when purchasing the room, it seemed clear that my total cost included those things. Our one night stay at a resort that had nothing but a public beach was over $250!
At this rate I would of rather pitched a tent and slept on the beach. We will not be returning. Don't waste your money.
