I was so, so impressed. I don't think I've had better service anywhere. The staff went out of their way to help us (there were quite a few of us) and made us feel very welcome. The rooms and beds were comfortable, the breakfast excellent, and so was the coffee. The village of Moulton is very beautiful too.

We were there for a family 50th wedding celebration, the staff were really helpful and the food was all excellent in quality.

The village of Moulton is pretty and quiet and worth a wonder around too while you are there, very close to Newmarket.

Will be back for dinner or Sunday lunch soon.

We have enjoyed our stay in this quiet location. The staff are all exceptionally polite and helpful. The room tastefully decorated and well equipped. The restaurant is comfortable and food excellent, including breakfast of a high standard. Could not fault our stay here at The Packhorse Inn.

Judging by the starter, I'm sure there is delicious food to be had, but the main course of roast beef for Sunday lunch was very expensive and very disappointing with difficult to chew meat and a huge polystyrene Yorkshire pud. Sorry guys. Great Sunday roasts to be had in the area at a fraction of the price.

It's very local to me they so great food and it's a lovely setting. Sunday roast could be better in that I don't feel its as good as the other food they do.
But Sunday roasts are very objective. And actually doing a Sunday roast is actually always best done at home.. So that's OK.

I was really looking forward to staying at this venue. Unfortunately the room we booked, the bath had broken a few days before (this was the main feature on why we booked this place). We had no call/message to explain the situation, as we could of cancelled and rebooked for another date especially as we booked with a voucher and paid up. We had driven 2 hours without a working bath. Wished the communication was better, especially as its classified as a "5" star hotel. It is a shame.

Poor for Vegetarians and Vegans...

We had two veggies, two vegans and two meat-eaters in our group - we'd called ahead (several days before) to check the a Vegan/Veggie roast could be provided. We were totally reassured and came in a large family group specially.... big mistake.

It turns out they what happens at this pub is that they massively over-promise - unusually they do mention vegan options on the menu - but what happens is they take the veggie option and remove the cheese... same cost, just, what was already an rather unimaginative cheese-heavy meal, now without cheese. Very poor.

The veggie Sunday roast was a meat-Sunday roast minus the meat - again, that would have been ok for a more typically basic pub, but, for a "gastro" pub who claims to understand a more modern diet, it fell flat on its face. There are some lovely vegan-friendly sunday roasts offered by pubs who know their stuff - trust me - I've had a few! Nut roast, vegan yorkshire, lovely gravy without meat juice, delicious steamed and roasted veggies... yum!

The other veggie option was meant to have Camembert... but actually had mozzarella! Quite different, I think you'll agree, but the "chefs" must have had a moment of confusion.

Even the pudding - chocolate mouse - marked as "veggie" we were then told had gelatin in it. That's a pretty stupid mistake to make these days, I'm afraid.

I would say that one of the meat-eaters really liked their traditional Sunday roast... so if only this place didn't try to pretend it was capable of more, then this review wouldn't be so bad, but as it is, this was an almost offensively bad meal concocted by people who clearly didn't have a clue, and for some reason that I can't quite fathom, wanted to pretend they did.

Steer clear.

Great staff, a clean and tidy room with an amazing bathroom and super soft bed, and the best black pudding I've ever had!

At night the surrounding area is almost silent, and allowed my wife (a famously light sleeper) to get a good night's rest.

The Staff were charming, polite, and very helpful.

Having just spent 2 nights at the Packhorse Inn, for an anniversary treat from my husband, I would highly recommend this loverly hotel.. Beautiful setting, just outside of Newmarket, the comfort, the food, everything was outstanding. Because I have a disability, the management, and the start in general, went the extra mile to ensure my safety and comfort.
Thanking you all for a wonderful time, looking forward to seeing you all again soon.
Kindest regards...Janice Dean
