They have a great variety of beers on tap that will suit anyone's taste. The food, on the other hand, is only okay. I've gotten their wings and their pulled pork sandwich ... the wings were terrible (not crispy, the sauce was bland, and they were trying too hard to appeal to a hipster crowd with complications over simplicity), but the pulled pork sandwich was pretty good but overpriced. If you're going to go here, come for drinks, but find food elsewhere.

Always a great beer list, usually great food as well. They keep changing their veg options which is annoying because they used to be AMAZING now they are just good.

The other two places by the same owners in South Philly are also great and have lots of tasty vegetarian/vegan options and varied/interesting drinks.

A neighborhood watering hole with a solid selection of local brews. The bartender was friendly and a bit unprofessional - perfect for a neighborhood spot. The beer selection stood apart. Good sours, good single hop IPAs, good imperial. This place is exactly what I want from a corner bar.

Not my first review for Local 44, the atmosphere is local and low key and its always a winner for a late dinner. But for Heavens sake, put some lights on outside so we know if the place is open. I showed up with friends after talking the place up and we weren't sure if it was open or not.

I would give no stars, if possible. Came in with a couple of friends. Two other groups of people followed after us, but the cashier had his eyes on us from the moment we walked in. A friend of mine had no interest in buying beer, so she just hung out by the door, on her cell phone. The cashier kept asking us, only us, asking if we needed help...following us around the tiny space, pretending to tidy up around us. When we went to pay, he asked all three of us for our IDs, including my friend who hadn't touched or even looked at any beer. We are all 23 years old with valid state IDs, but it's the principle. I told him that only two of us were at the register with beer in hand, trying to pay and he said it was "state law". I attempted to inquire further about said law, when he snatched the beers out of my hand and went to put them away. I am not sure if it was because my friend was Muslim, or because we were all African American, or if it was because this poor cashier was upset for having gone bald so prematurely and was far below the average height for an American male (can we say Napoleon complex?). But we were definitely profiled and treated very poorly from the moment we walked in. No worries, Fresh Grocer has a beer garden now :)

A great local bar for some good beer and tasty food. Been coming here for close to a decade on and off (made an appearance or two at Kelly Anne's when I was a young under-ager). They seem to want to be THE local bar, and they've stayed consistent in that effort. Sneaky good spot to watch a game if you snag a good seat at the bar.

I knocked this down from 4 stars to 3 b/c they added a service charge to my credit card after I signed the receipt and without telling me. So it was an unhappy surprise when I got my credit card statement. If that didn't happen, then I'd say this is a terrific gastropub that just so happens to have vegan food. Flesh eaters will like all the menu options, even the ones that just happen to be veggie or vegan. A big tip of the fork to the chef for having such an appealing menu.

I had the ramen noodle soups with saitan, feaux flesh, and mushrooms and a soft-boiled egg. Very tasty. Heads up for fellow hot spice wimps, even though I set the hot peppers aside, there was still enough heat in the dish to make me sweat like I was doing hot yoga; it's like menopause in a bowl.

Went here for the first time last Friday. The food was really good, I had the 44 burger and it was delicious. The service was friendly, fast, and very efficient. I expected to wait a long time for food because it seemed very busy, but they were on point. Will be going back again for sure. Obviously good beer selection, and the beer place next door is a good next move. Thanks for playing the flyers game on the tv!

This place is okay. It's just another trendy spot that charges too much for hipster-themed items like seitan "chicken" nuggets or a fancy mac & cheese. The food tastes good, but value-for-dollar it's overpriced simply for the fact that it's bougie. For instance there is nothing particularly special about their $13 burger. It tastes good, but it's an $8 burger at best.

I hope its just with delivery, but this was some really bad food! The Chili was saturated with oil, wings had a boiled like texture, and the sprouts were overcooked and under seasoned. Just overall really bad, I'm shocked; again I hope this was just a one time thing, because I would not recommend.

What a wonderful place! I have a diverse group of friends and we went here a few nights ago. Lol, we couldn't be more of a McDonald's commercial. I am always late putting in reviews, so here are my thoughts. Service gets 5 stars. Operations gets 5 stars. Food gets 5 stars. Environment gets 5 Stars. And I have been giving Equality Ratings as of late. Management was nice enough to check if me and my boyfriend were doing well. For an interracial couple, their Equality Rating gets 5 Stars due to management.

I tried the gnocchi with stroganoff and it was delicious! I had Apple Cider, that was very good. I liked the atmosphere and the attention was very kind. Prices were fair enough. For one person, think that you could spend here around $30 for drinks and food.

The go-to bar of West Philly, Local 44 has a solid balance of all the things you'd be looking for: a bar with a good variety of drinks, sit-down table service with decent food options, and a bottle shop. The food includes solid vegan options, and the beer let is well curated (you won't find any Budweiser or Coors). It's reliably good, though the ever-changing draft list does run the risk of getting you hooked on a drink that won't be available by your next visit. The place is moderately pricey but if you're looking for a high quality experience overall bar experience, Local 44 delivers.
