I like Esri because there's extensive resources like books, magazines, newspaper, websites, teaching resources, non-profit programs, education programs, strong investment in new technology, extensive and passionate community, excellent conferences, and the list goes on.
The ESRI GIS Library has a great literature stock.. Every time i'm in there i feel like a kid in a candy store. The campus is very clean and organized. Everyone is mostly cheerful.

Truly fantastic and comprehensive suite of GIS software. The niche and open source programs serve their purpose but Esri has really covered all the bases with the 10.x platform. Keep up the good work.
