Let's just make this clear, Zannos Melathron was first a mansion built in the 18th century. The rooms - as intricately designed as they are - have a historical aspect to them. The hotel is very unique, and if you're not up for a little change from the mundane - this is exactly where you need to stay.
Upon arrival at the town square (due to the hotels location) you will be welcomed by the hotel bell boy and an adorable donkey named Marcos - they will guide you up the stairs and to the reception. Yes, it is very different, but it gives you a taste of Greek history, which, to me, was very memorable.
We stayed in the Master Suite containing two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The second bathroom only contained a toilet and a sink, and the shower was in the bedroom...it was an open shower. So, in order to avoid making a mess, we all showered in one bathroom. Don't get me wrong, the suite was HUGE and there was plenty of space to fit at least 6 people, and that's saying something! Again, the hotel has a historical vibe, so the rooms are a bit dark at night, but that's nothing to worry about, you'll get used to it. The room was clean despite a few insects here and there that probably crawled from the open door or window; again it's really nothing to worry about. The Suite was spacious and well-furnished.
The amenities are limited - the hotel provides you with an adequately-sized pool with a range of sun beds and umbrellas & a spa consisting of treatments and massages are also available; however, I haven't experimented with the spa during my stay. The pool may look a bit small in some pictures, but it is good enough to dip and swim into for a few hours.
We thank Zannos Melathron so much for making our stay so wonderful and we hope to come back soon! Keep the history aside, the hotel is very comfortable - and I'd recommend it to anyone hoping for a memorable stay in Santorini!
Safe travels!
