Lovely food for a fair price. I recommend their homemade soda. My friends and I stopped there after visiting JFK's birthplace. It was a lovely stop for lunch. There was quick service and delicious food. It has a fun lively atmosphere and is a nice place to stop by for all ages.

Delightful stoping in to this eatery. So many outstanding choices. Five of us, five home runs. All finished every bite, other than what we allowed to be sampled. A worthy destination for any and all hungry souls!

I really hate to be mean, but this place is not very good. The service is mediocre at best. The food is a cheap imitation of a real New York deli. We were at a table of nine and one person got the wrong drink. one person got something that was ice cold inside. Two other people really didn't like what they ordered it's my Reuben was average. And nobody liked the fries.

Ordered a Pint of Chicken Soup w/a matza ball to go. Got 3/4 of a pint. Service = good, for a fast food restaurant; at a place with these prices and atmosphere, I expect more. Would've been 1 star, but the food IS tasty. I enjoyed brunch here once - Maybe I'll give it one more try before I give up on it.

I don't get to go here often since I don't live in Boston, but when I am in Boston I always have to stop in at Zaftigs. The Ruben is amazing and so are the latkes. The service is generally pretty fast as well. Be prepared to wait to get in especially on the weekends.

If you know what corned beef is supposed to be, do...

If you know what corned beef is supposed to be, don't order it here. I ordered half fatty and half lean. I not only received all lean but: The smallest briskets I've every seen at a deli, dry and stringy; They serve them 2 ways, from the fridge, believe it or not, or fro the steam table, who ever heard of corned beef being served straight from the fridge? I never heard of it, the waiter didn't warn me, and no matter what this is not going to be a great experience. And turns out that the sandwich maker didn't even know what fatty corned beef is, as he remade my sandwich with the same lean cut he started with. There other food may be OK, but it's hard for me to imagine given that a Jewish deli doesn't know what a corned beef sandwich is supposed to be.

Overrated. Long waits, cramped area, food is overpriced for what it is. Reuben is greasy and tasteless. Went back again: waited 30 min after sitting in for simple order to come. Entree came less than 5 minutes after appertizer. New Yorker sandwich was very dry and flavorless. Steak tips were rare except for 1 - and so few. Rice with tips was over cooked. Fish and chips was very small and over cooked. No salt on anything. French fries were good. Wait staff struggled and took over 10 minutes to come back k with credit card. You've been warn: stay away from what was once a great place.

Service was slow even though we were one of only a few people there. Ordered the chilli for an appetizer which arrived cold so we had to get a new one, which turned out to be pretty good. Got a sandwich with corned beef and pastrami that was practically tasteless. Girlfriend got a barbecue chicken salad and said the same of the chicken. Prices were reasonable

Well worth the wait. As a Jersey girl who used to live in NYC, I feel like this place is a cross between the best diners and Russ & Daughters. Really great bagels and lox, and the French toast is fantastic. I'd recommend the sampler if you want to try a bit of everything - it's excellent. Drinks are also super cheap, which just adds to why we love it here.

Perhaps not the most authentic deli, but huge, hearty portions and friendly service make this a perfect brunch destination for Coolidge Corner. Strongly recommend the apple-and-cheddar omelet.

I celebrated my birthday earlier this evening in this gorgeous place. Well we passed a phenomenal evening and the restaurant was absolutely the reason for this fruitful gathering. The crew collaborated in a lovely style, the food was yummy and my guests were extremely pleased. We shall definitely return for more celebrations. thanks very much.

zaftigs, on the site of the defunct jack & marian'...

zaftigs, on the site of the defunct jack & marian's, varies from day to day & hour to hour. if you come at off-peak hours with a party of 2-3, you should be okay. if, however, you come on a weekend, particularly thanksgiving weekend, the wait will be lengthy & noise level immense. the restaurant staff also varies. some seem to be plucked directly from local colleges with no apparent training. management can be indifferent. the last time i was at zaftigs, baked potatoes had been deleted from the menu & non-alcoholic beer not replenished. (not good for the vegetarians among us.) other menu items can be quite tasty. one of my guests ordered the macaroni & cheese & loved it. another person ordered an omelet & a salad, but had to ask for the toast & a fork. as a former waitress, i hold my breath whenever my guests want to dine at zaftigs. i never know what we'll be met with.

Standard diner fare with splashes of Jewish flavor. The stuffed banana pancake was tasty enough- but the portion would have been more appropriate for a horse. Service can be hit or miss; my initial visit for breakfast had me waiting an eternity for my waitress to take my order and get the bill, particularly because I was dining solo. Additionally, I did not receive the specials menu that other patrons were perusing. On another occasion, our waitress was jovial and patient.

Great breakfast/brunch spot in Brookline. Definitely get that Jewish delicatessen feel, though not Kosher as many normally are. Lines can be long, but the food is delicious, and keep an eye out for daily specials on the chalk board.

Extensive menu and all day breakfast options. Try to go during the week to avoid long waits on the weekend. Staff is friendly and accommodating.
French fries are crispy on the outside, soft in the inside. Everything is made to order!

Love Love Loved our Sunday brunch here! Honestly nothing but rave reviews to give and highly recommend if you like to eat! lol We started off with the combo plate which features a potato knish, cheese blintz with fresh berries, potato latke over apple sauce and kugal. We also got a pickle plate (best pickles everrrrrr). 2 cups of matzo ball soup to start. One of my sons got the banana stuffed French toast with bourbon cream filling, other son got an omelette with corned beef hash swiss cheese and English muffins and home fries, my husband got a 50/50 corned beef pastrami with swiss on rye and I had a pastrami on marble. It was a feast! The service was impeccable, coffee was delicious and the food was on point. There was easily 30 people waiting outside and we waited an hour to be seated but....it was worth it! We were in town for a couple of days, staying at the Marriot Brookline - walking distance to Zaftigs - and was I glad! We stopped in the first night for dinner and I had a lean corned beef sandwich (after a cup of matzoh ball soup!) So good - we went back again the next two nights that we were in town! It's a good thing we headed back home today or I would be zaftig! I'd love it if they'd open a branch in Burlington, VT!
