Dear Yale Staff, I recently had to visit you ER ( 3-24-17) and I would like to compliment the efficiency and professionalism extended to me.Thank you for having such a pleasant and caring staff. They are truly an asset to Yale. Exclusively I would to like to commend Dr. Warren Perry for his outstanding bedside manners and caring ways. He should be recognize for same as well as Katy, RN and others that I interacted with that night. Again "Thank you all". Wishing you continued success.

This has to be the worst hospital to bring new life into. From the start the staff have been unsupportive & rude. They give you a tour and tell you about how great everything is but it's not. Nothing works as its should. You and your newborn will get to freeze as the heat doesn't work. The stuff will only remember half of the things you ask them for. Bring your own bedding and blankets as they seam to have none. Even the food service is a joke they forgot my wife's meals twice and or forgot half of what we ordered. This has to have been the worst hospital to bring in new life. My last child was born at Griffin hospital and all I have been doing from the start is wishing we had gone there instead of this hell. I hope no one else makes the same mistake we did. Also the fact the only parking they have is pay parking is a joke no parking lot like griffin. I can't wait to leave in the morning we are never coming back to yale new haven hospital even if it kills me........

The primary reason I came to the hospital was managed. However, I was unconscious for multiple days and had no idea what happened to me. No doctor sat with me and explained the situation to me. My family members are the ones who explained the situation and why I was there and how long I was there. Also, I felt as if I was being used as a guinea pig. I have multiple bruises on my arms from unsuccessful blood draws and attempted IV's. Which is very frustrating because I often donate blood and have ALWAYS been told, I have great veins. When I was unconscious, they performed a lumbar puncture and were unsuccessful because they used the wrong size needle. They wanted to do another lumbar puncture when I was conscious and I said no. After saying no, the doctor who had wanted to perform the lumbar puncture told me, that it probably was unnecessary anyway because they were giving me antiviral medication in the IV to treat anything that might be in my CSF. This is what made me feel like a guinea pig. I felt as if they only wanted to perform the test to teach their satff. It is a teaching hospital, after all. I did not feel well cared for in terms of bedside manner. I felt like a number not a person. I don't feel that the doctors or nurses truly cared for their patients or were properly trained for certain tasks. The only person on the staff, who I interacted with, that made me feel well cared for was one of the CNA's.

All in all, I give it a 3.25. You'll most likely get treated, which is the primary concern at a hospital. Just don't expect to be well cared for or treated like a human being. You'll most likely get treated like a number or a problem to be solved. (I was unconscious, so I honestly can't even comment on how well their treatment plans are. I can say my family was not very satisfied with the quality. They were just happy I was alive.)

Horrible experience every time I've been there. Hospital staff is super rude to everyone, especially the staff at the front desk. They yell and give attitude to patients. Doctors don't do anything to help you, you walk out the same way you came in.

I got into a highway accident saturday evening where I passed out behind the wheel and crashed. I'm grateful I'm the only one involved and I'm still alive. I just want to say every single person that helped me treated me with the up most respect and made me feel like everything they did came from their hearts!

This review is for the ED and inpatient services. If I could give 0 stars I would. The nurses and doctors seem to care but overall there is no communication and the doctor only shows up when you call patient relations. I called them twice while admitted so when they provide their canned response please know I already called and tried to resolve my concerns while still there. Please do not come to this hospital.

My wife just had our first child here and i can't say enough good things.
-the nursing staff are all professional, respectful, educated, and very caring
-the doctors are personable, thoughtful, considerate
- the care techs are sweet, helpful and there when you need them

Everybody worked as a team including ancillary staff like food service and house keeping. The place was packed and the staff was very busy, but they didn't let on their own stresses on us. They were also calm and supportive. My wife pain during and postpartum was very well control, through analgesia (pain meds) and others soothing techniques. She was well supported in her breast feeding and educated well by her nurses and lactation consultant.

Everybody bent over backwards for our comfort and we are grateful. I hope all can have an experience as we did.

Please don t ever go to this emergency room unless you can stand at 6-8 hour wait just to be seen. There aren t enough beds in the back to love clients in and out. This emergency room is not for emergencies. You will not be in and out. Extremely time consuming with no assurance when it s your turn.

Once, I was in the kids ER. I had a broken arm and had to wait 8 hours for surgery. I was complaining how I was sow hungry. Now I realize why it took so long. There were other kids with worse cases than me, such as three degree burns. It was worth the wait, though. I got to watch 4 movies.

great. i can mostly speak only for the NICU, since that's where I stayed the vast majority of my time, but they were unbelievable, the doctors, nurses, techs, procedures - unbelievable. I know my family loved it. there was always a doctor avaliable to answer questions, and they were very open and willing to listen and help without talking down to you or patronizing, and the nurses are some of the best in the business. one of the best hospitals in the country, ESPECIALLY the NICU. 10/10

Worst experience ever as inpatient!!!! In ICU surgical unit. Only nurses that were great was Chris on nights and Macey on days. No dignity, respect of my feelings or privacy as a patient. Had to express that patients have RIGHTS and I was told if I go AMA Insurance would not pay. I have a sister that is a RN that does Case Management, that witnessed that. She quickly told her that is not true. I looked it up and saw that is correct. They do pay. Not offered by days to wash up or brush my teeth!! Only on nights when I was half asleep. Chris was an outstanding nurse. Went out of his way to make my stay the best it could be. Treated me with dignity and compassion. Sad to say, this troubled world of staff that at Yale doesn t show that like he does. Feel for others in same situation that can t stand up for their rights. Very unhappy with my stay with the few exceptions.

My only complaint is the hospital policeman was extremely rude to us, because we accidentally went through the wrong door after being told by a nurse to just buzz in. No greeting, raised voice and very rude angry tones. It was very frustrating to be yelled at as we are sitting listening to our child cry through the door as he gets his arm bones reset and casted.

This hospital is very difficult to have someone treated on an acute level of care. Their priority is education over patient care. 20% of the nursing staff are unfit to care for patients. My wife was treated by Johns Hopkins for symptoms as a result of ms, seizures. Hopkins she was in twice a year, Yale with failure to follow up on patient care, she was in 24 times in a year. patient care is administered by residents and attendings first year out of residenship. There's no follow up to transition care after discharge. Went in for a pick line, came out minus a pint of blood and nobody knows how she lost a pint of blood. Constantly a fight for proper care. Do not keep family informed, unless you argue and get patient relations or an administrator involved. If you have a sick loved one this is not the place to bring them.

I was born in this hospital. But I never got the chance to look at the design of this hospital with my own eyes as I was raised outside of the US. I really want to come back to this place and explore this city and also to live here when I have the opportunity.

Yale is one of our top medical facilities in the country along with some of their out pt programs. Like any buisness they can be slow, rude or sometimes not efficient but it's also a HOSPITAL. They trige treatment by importance. Waiting is good the people that are seen first and quickly are usually quite severe. This is a busy hospital please remember this when reading reviews. The RNs and doctors may seem like they are ignoring you but they have 20 odd other people who also want undivided attention. Not to mention the countless 911 calls for a hurt tooth or symptoms of a cold. If your in the ER waiting room for hours it's likely you should and probably would have been better off at a walk in. They know what they are doing even if they are sometimes slow or rude.

Excellent top quality care. One of the best hospitals in America. The doctors are well prepared and well trained to do the work that they are doing. I would suggest that if one is not well, that they would go to this hospital when in the new haven area.

Brought my mother to the er tonight with chest pains. Took an ekg and told us to sit in the waiting room. 4 hours later we are walking out without being seen. 4 FREAKING HOURS! We were told someone with dental pain and toe pain were more important then us and being seen first. This was AFTER waiting 4 hours with severe chest pains. Never even seen by a doctor and leaving pissed!!!! Worst service I've ever seen at a so called emergency room.

I was incorrectly told I would have to take pharmaceuticals for the rest of my life. I knew the solution was to taper off of them. Drug pushers are unwilling to lose customers. I had to taper the drugs myself, and I'm finally recovering. I lost decades of my life because of psychiatry. I wouldn't wish that upon anyone.

I arrived at 9:30am with my 86 year old mother. When I approached to receptionist she was on a personal phone call, I waited 3 minutes before I was greeted. She apologized and put her cell phone away. She checked us in and we sat in the waiting room. We were the only patients for about 8 minutes and then someone else walked in. We waited and then a third patient walked in. We waited for about 10 more minutes and no one came out to call us in. Finally I went back to the receptionist and told her that my mother is unable to sit up any longer, what's the delay? About 3 minutes later we were called in and left about 3 minutes after that. I think she was catching up on her paperwork. Do you realize some people are there because they don't feel well?
Furthermore, on our way in we passed a used famine hygiene product by the door. I brought it to the receptionist's attention and it was still there on our way out!

The care here is great. I can't see myself going anywhere else. I came BACK to New Haven although the city is expensive to live in, JUST to be close to Yale because the level of care and professionalism her has been better than any other hospital I've gone to. The level of care here from the emergency room to admission has always been positive for me. Even when I've gone in for panic attacks, they check and rule out other conditions and refer me for follow up. I am also being managed for my autoimmune disease here and my doctors are wonderful.

I have had repeated negative experiences with Yale New Haven Hospital. I live with an "invisible illness" and have unfortunately been to the ED more times than I would like. Seldom am I treated with respect. Generally the sequence of events goes as follows; An ambulance is called because I seized somewhere, I get in an ambulance post-dictal, come to while waiting for a room or in the ambulance itself, blood is drawn bloodwork comes back normal,I explain the nastier of my illness and that I didn't call the ambulance, staff accuses me of being on drugs, drug tests me, drug test comes back clean, I am released.
More recently, I severely sprained my ankle and came to the ED to get it checked out. Do to hospital miscommunication I ended up being forced against my will to go to the psychiatric ED. I gave them no reason to send me there. Again, I came in to have my ANKLE treated, and the staff threatened to have me restrained and medicated because I didn't want to go to the PSYCHIATRIC ED. Staff was abusive and patronizing. Once at the psychiatric ED, I was immediately cleared by a psychologist and released, with an apology from the psychologist for the ridiculous situation Yale put me in. Before releasing me, I had to insist that they at least splint my ankle....THE ENTIRE REASON I CAME TO BEGIN WITH.

I have had good experiences with the treatment of family and friends at this hospital. The doctors and nurses are nice and smart. The facility is nice and clean. The cafeteria has good options. I wish the parking was a little cheaper.

I love YNHH because of the people who work there. They have a true and authentic approach to healthcare. I am simply overwhelmed by the caring staff, that listens to the patients. From 6 Aug. to 9 Aug I was a patient there, Section 6-5 room 511. I am extremely grateful to Lisa, Rose,Dr.Singh, Dr. Richard Ho, Dr. Ben Press, medical students Ryan and Alex. Also RN's LibeHyD, Pria, Kyre, Gemma, and Tina for making my stay enjoyable. No one fears surgery more than I do and this team helped me overcome my them.
