I was a camper from age 7-14. These summers were some of the best years of my life. I am so incredibly grateful for being able to spend some time there. An experience of a life time for any age.

YMCA Wanakita was one of the best times of my life. I went with my school and the environment and their activities really allowed for us to bond. The one downside is that they truly believe that the ideals and values they teach will apply to the real world, which they do not, and the way that they repeat these themes led to a good amount of discontent. Otherwise, absolutely amazing!

It was pretty fun! I went here with my school. The food was pretty good, and the staff were completely aware of anyone's food allergies/sensitivities, and they would special-make any foods for these people. And also, the activities were enjoyable for the most part.

YMCA Wanakita is the best place I have ever been in my life. It s so beautiful and serene! Ever since I began to come to Wanakita, I have loved it so much. Wanakita is an amazing place for all people of all ages. There are so many activities to do from acoustic guitar to mountain biking.
There are also so many outstanding councillors who are very involved in camp life. All staff members are helpful, positive, and are eager to participate in activities with all campers. Thank you Wanakita for creating and providing an amazing environment for all children and adults of all ages! I will be coming back for many more years to come!

Very well run and kept camp. You can expect the best from the YMCA camps, loved them when I was a camper and continue to do so now as a parent.
The flexibility of what they offer is amazing. You can book one of several weeks through the summer a d go as a family! They have a mother-daughter weekend in May and a father-son weekend in June, great way to spend some quality family time.
Kayaking canoeing, climbing wall and low ropes, archery and just about anything outdoors related you can imagine. A lot of the staff/counselors are former campers themselves and bring a great attitude and commitment making the camping experiences all the richer. Food is way better than anything I remember from my youthful camping days, hats off to the staff. I highly recommend Wanakita to all.

Went for a grade 12 outdoor leadership class. Worst trip we ever had. They treated us like 4 year olds and had terrible food. The chicken tasted like plastic and their soup is practically water with frozen vegies in them. They gave us frozen hotdogs that were one year expired, did we not check the dates ourselves, we would have gotten sick. The entire trip was a disappointment and was way overpriced. Will never go to a YMCA site ever again. Don't waste your time or money.

Overall this is a very good camp. My kids love it, the food is good and so are the grounds and activities.
The reason for my three star review is having been to several other camps such as Kawartha, Wabanaki and Pinecrest, we ve noticed a stark difference in the overall vibe here. At the other camps you re greeted with enthusiasm and energy by ALL the counselors and staff. Your kids feel safe and excited and you, as a parent feel at ease to be leaving them there for the next week.
For some reason Wanakita has a subtle malaise, which I can only imagine has to do with the leadership here.
For example, on our first tour of the camp we were with two counselors who were rebuffed by a superior who didn t even acknowledge us, telling the girls only one of them should be showing us around. A hello and friendliness go a long way so I d like to see the leadership here step up and make a bigger effort to instill a better attitude.
The greeters also need a boost and the overall welcoming process needs a review.

We're regular family camper at wanakita and it's always been a great experience for us. I'm a single dad with two kids and there is always something to do for each of us there. The accommodations vary depending on the time of year and the size of your group and they're always clean and tidy and in good repair. Activities are well organized, staffed and run with all gear being top notch. YMCA staff are always fantastic. They put the camper first and take great care with safety and making sure everyone enjoys themselves. For a camp experience the food is always really good and plentiful and they go out of their way to make sure that dietary requirements are met for everyone.
