Our favorite Chinese restaurant. We have always had great service. Good value with decent portion size. In our opinion, THE best egg drop soup anywhere.

I like visiting this Kroger because of the good organization of the aisles and the place is the convenient to get something fast
This is the best Chinese food in Houston. The food is authentic and very high quality.
I like to try something new. O ordered 5 items on the menu. The staff are nice
I don't know why Yao Restaurant has a bad rep .. it's unfounded. They have a great lunch special, food is reasonably priced, and they have good portions for dinner.. If you're an NBA, Rockets or simply a basketball fan, they have a lot of memorabilia. Yao Ming tenure with the rockets could have been great with T Mac ... But never came to pass. If you want to visit an NBA Hall of Fame players restaurant with good Chinese food... Give it a try
The food is great and the service is 10/10 well if you're not black. Some servers there will seat you away from the dining hall to the bar TO SEPERATE YOU FROM THE OTHER CUSTOMERS
My boyfriend decided to take me and my son here since we happen to pass by Yao Restaurant quite a few times in the past. Since the restaurant is owned by Yao Ming, I thought it would be great to support a him. I'm a native Houstonian and love the rockets. Well, when we arrived, the gentleman that seated us did not smile when he greeted us. I am good at reading people, so I didn't like the feeling I was receiving. The waitstaff started off very well in providing good service. Our beverages were on point. We started off with the cumin duck wings and fried dumplings. Dumplings were good and the duck wings were ok(presentation was nice). We ordered our main course. Again, presentation was nice. The food looked very good, but I have to say this is the first restaurant I've ever been to where the food tasted "so" bland. There was literally no flavor or seasoning. My son's Chow Mein was "very" disappointing. My Mongolian Lamb was even more sad(it tasted like it came straight off the grill). My boyfriend's dish was the only one that had everything my son and I wish we had. It was some kind of pork belly. The wait staff kind of disappeared and we had to ask the bus boy for our check(I noted there was a wedding they had in another room so I was patient). One of the waitstaff asked for the credit card since they saw me holding it. I asked to see the bill first, but she pressed to take the payment and yet I still insisted on seeing the bill. Finally the bill came out after 10 minutes. I really don't like writing bad reviews unless I truly feel like people should be warned. If Yao Restaurant goal was to be certain I never came back, they definitely achieved it.
This is one of my favorite restaurants around! The service is always amazing, food is excellent and pricing is reasonable.
My favorite Asian restaurant anywhere. Wonderful food, service, and prices!
I used to love coming here but I just spent$40 yesterday and paid with my card and noticed they took an extra $8.05 from my card. I am going there today to speak with management. The fact that they accessed my card and charged more than what my meal was is outrageous. I will NEVER eat at this dishonest restaurant again .
Very clean, servers are great, good food and great service.
chinese food and the feeling at this place is excellent. this place has a nice feel to it. food is similar to a cafe in indianapolis i liked.
Great decent high end Chinese restaurant, nothing related to Yao Ming except there are few photos hanging on the wall
While the food was good the service was terrible. The waiter was very impatient and visibly rude. When myself and my family were making our orders he would cut us off and glare at us. Not to mention when my wife didn t like the asparagus one of the waiters said this is how we cook it either you can eat it or order something else. Then our waiter says in Spanish This is the second time she sent the food back. My kids didn t like the fried dumplings and the waiter had an attitude about that as well. Will never come back again to this establishment.
Great place to go during lunch breaks. Their service is speedy, the waiters are great and you can't beat their soups and lunch specials!
Food is always great no matter what you choose. Staff is friendly, helpful & courteous
Love the food, service is very good. Bathrooms need to be a little cleaner though
The restaurant has lost it s past charm and quality in food. Totally dated, food is greasy & oily. Fresh, light, and healthy is what is missing
Yao is one of the best Chinese restaurants in town.
Device and food was excellent. Neil is a great waiter. Best Asian food in Houston .
The service was great and the food was fabulous and tasty and plentiful!!!
The best in Houston as a local landmark and great food and service.
Really good food . Get it to go or dine in a grab a seat at the bar . It's all good . Enjoy the crab rangoon!
Went here for lunch with co workers, The food was nasty. There was a bug on one of my co workers. Then I asked the waited to turn off the AC because i was freezing, i asked them 3X and NEVER took care of it. Never coming back
The food is amazing, very rich complex flavors. The portions are quite generous. Service was outstanding couple that with fine food and nice atmosphere, it made for a really wonderful dinning experience.
Good food, good customer service but . The buffet was Soo good but have put someone there to make sure people use their masks and gloves before going to take their food from the buffet. This needs some serious attention please.
This place is great. They have the nicest waiters you ve ever seen, and the shanghai shrimp is amazing!
Very friendly servers. They brig the food hot & it's always delicious! Try their plum wine which is always on point & their Mongolian lamb or Mongolian beef are super tasty & delicious, plus you can always take leftovers home.
The live bamboo on the tables is a nice touch. Very quiet and clean. This is my favorite place to get fried rice.
I went here for a company dinner not too long ago, and I was thoroughly unimpressed. Because we were such a large party, they made an area for us in the back, which was pretty spacious. We ordered practically everything on the menu, and were served family style, similar to any other Chinese restaurant. As I had a pretty good selection of everything on the menu, saying the food was lackluster would be nice. For the prices of everything we ordered, I expected the best Chinese food of my life, but I was horribly disappointed. The General Tso's Chicken was meh, the Sesame Chicken was average, the Steamed Vegetable Mix were just regular old steamed vegetables (I guess I expected them to be coated in gold for how much we paid for them), and everything just had a very normal, nothing special taste to it. I probably could have gone to Bellaire and found the same thing for one-fourth the price.
There were a couple of highlights that I think were pretty good but still overpriced: the Mongolian Beef and the Beef & Asparagus in Oyser Sauce. But that's about it.
The service was decent, nothing over the top, but the restaurant is well-decorated and bodes a nice atmosphere. Would I go again? Probably not. Would I recommend it to a friend? Again, no. Would I rather go to some hole-in-the-wall Chinese place and save the money for a new pair of shoes? Definitely.
Best chinese in town! I love the freshness of the food!
Much better than I anticipated. Service was great and very accommodating. The Peking duck and mango pudding were superb!
Some of my favorite Chinese food on the west side. Peking duck is cheaper here than in Chinatown. Carved at your table, it is so succulent and tender with almost no fat. Their steamed pork dumplings are excellent, and the cumin duck wings are a favorite. Ask to sit with Kim, a wonderful waitress who always has a smile. They deliver, just give them a call, and they are on some of the apps like Door Dash. Lots of Yao Ming momentos in the bar area.
Saw this on hotel map. Absolutely the best Chinese food you can find in Houston. Will be returning soon. Service was perfect.
Nasties food ever and I'm not picky. I ordered this shrimp in lobster sauce and this should be call shrimp and egg soup. Nastiest plate ever. The dual combo had a desert that said vanilla ice cream the waiter comes out with strawberry ice cream. TERRIBLE!!!!
I called to place my order I explain to them that I ve never ordered for them I gave them my name my address and then they hung up on me I then called back and spoke to someone else and they took my order and then they ended up transferring me back to the person claiming to be the manager and she insulted me and hung up on me
The food is consistently good here. I love the egg drop soup and the seseme chicken. The lunch portions are a little small for me but for a few bucks more you can get the dinner plate. Try the orange chicken too. Good stuff.
cheap good chinese with great service. the general Tsao is a SLAM DUNK. also good for business meetings because you can request the private room.
bland food. Ordered combination fried rice and combination lo mein...nothing had flavor. Waste of money!
Service was great as well as the food. Very upscale and reasonably priced.
I'm surprised this place isn't packed. The food is always great and always has great service.
Food here is amazing and you get what you pay for. Definitely worth the money. !
Awesome place with great food. The service was also very fast and attentive. I tried lots of other Chinese restaurants and this is by far the best and i will be back .
I think lots of people go to this place because of Yao Ming. This was a nice place to enjoy Chinese food with your family and friends. The decorations and the service was good. However, the food was not really authentic. I really didn t enjoy their Beijing duck. Dry but not fatty.
I always look forward to dinning here. I have yet to order something that I don't like. YAO'S is clean and the staff is very nice and attentive no matter how many people are in your party. I'm just glad I don't live closer! if you venture there try the Mongolian it come with chicken beef and shrimp or you could just one of those. My favorite is the shrimp but I've had them all. Shrimp fried rice is awesome. So are the chicken egg rolls and pan fried dumplings! Happy Eating!
Excellent food and service. Been eating there for years and it's been very consistent.
A Great restaurant. Customer service was great! The food was very good.
Atmosphere is good. Food is typical Americanized Chinese food.
Great lunch specials. Ask for Angel - best server ever!
Yao's is extemely overrated and overpriced.
I have had such better food. It doesn't taste good, its greasy, doesn't keep well... at all.
I will not be returning as I have given them 3 or 4 chances and have finally decided, this is just what it is. Taipei Express is excellent! Try them!
Excellent food and friendly staff. The drinks go down smooth, but pack a punch.
I just came there. No good customer service. They wasn't busy at all. I won't recommend nobody black. Sad.... Now tomorrow I'm going to go w my white and korean coworker and watch they be so friendly
Thankful they understand vegan needs. Food was great
Great food been coming here for awhile now but the owners doesn't know how to attend their customers, server we had has been working here for awhile and works great and good service but disappointed , bought 7 family meals and only brought us 3 bowls of rice for the 7 meals makes no sense then charge us for the rice that we asked for when we order them I'm not returning to this establishment again......The server needs a raise and needs to be treated like a regular human.....
Excellent food and even better service. Shout out to George and Angel!
Yao's restaurant doesn't really have the best Chinese food. Similar to Chinese food you find at the mall. One cool thing about Yao's though is the dining area that Yao and his family sits at. They have extra large chairs and a really high table. Another cool thing about the restaurant is the memorabilia cabinet with his huge shoes on display and a bunch of autographs from different athletes.
Great food. Great Service. Nice atmosphere. Whst more is there to say?
The food and the service and the place are all wonderful.
