There is nothing funnier and more interesting than seeing some monkeys bath and swim in an Onsen...

Perfect day to visit as it is snowing today. Weather is freezing but a look at the snow monkey at close encounter is unbelievable.

The wild ape was very thin, the largest was only 1 meter high. Many have leg problems, it is estimated that they are caused by climbing up and down. Fortunately, there is a hot spring dip to treat! January 2020 is warm winter, so wild apes refuse to soak in hot springs!

Snow monkeys were super cute. The only downside is the walk from the parking lot to the park. It was muddy and slippery the time when we went. Would recommend bringing shoes with good grip and waterproof/water-resistant pants

Love this place, I travel all the way from Tokyo for this one day trip, can get up close with the monkeys, don't touch the hot spring water, the monkeys poop inside it, in winter the parent monkeys hugs their babies in the snow, is really funny to watch

Monkeys are not aggressive and familiar to people's. Seeing them in their natural environment is amazing.

It's a bit if a hike, steep and slippery in winter, but we'll worth the climb! The snow monkeys are cool and will get quite close, so great photos are possible. :) The staff are very friendly and there is a warm rest station to relax in.

The monkeys are used to people and will not run away or be attacked when approached. However, be careful because the local area is just a little less than 30 minutes in unexplored areas.

Well set up and easy to get to on the bus. Sadly the monkeys weren't in the mood for a bath when we were there but saw heaps of them in the snow.

Unfortunately, there weren't many monkeys in the hot springs because the outside temperature was fairly high.
The scenery that can be seen on the net is not seen unless it is a cold day in midwinter.
In winter, you will have to walk over a frozen snowy road for over 1km. If you are not careful with your feet, you may slip and fall, and you may fall to the bottom of the valley.

As it was hot in May, monkeys have not entered the hot spring. After all winter is good!

Because the Jigokudani parking lot on the side of Shibu Onsen is closed in winter from December to March, it will be a walk from the parking lot of the monkey park at the Fudo Temple side, because the sidewalk is difficult to walk with mud, so you can clean the shoes that are dirty I will recommend it. Here the monkey is quietly very cute seems to be tame.

The walk was super muddy and a good distance uphill. I recommend wearing some good water resistant shoes if you go. After you finish and return down the mountain there is a nice little shop that sells some yummy snacks and hot chocolate before you return to your car.

Amazing place to see very interesting behavior of Japanese macaques and these beautiful smart animals themselves. Excellent facilities and a beautiful walk from the bus stop and the parking lots.

I want to walk about 30 minutes before I see the scorpion. Although it is heavy snow, the road is flat and easy. Maybe I have added crampons to the boots!

Nice walk up to the hill to the hotsprings where the snow monkeys have their spa... Can be a little slippery.. boots can be rented.. a little pricey though..

First of all, the monkeys are sweet. But - the park is very small and the staff is really unfriendly and harsh, which destroyed the atmosphere of my experience. Sad.

The Snow Monkeys are easy to reach from Tokyo with the Shinkansen specially organized for this destination. A short hike leads to the onsen landscape. The monkeys are free to observe in their protected environment. An incredibly impressive spectacle.

Unfortunately, I could not see him entering the hot spring, but I could see him eating food and grooming up close.
It takes about 30 minutes one way to go and it is slippery with snow. But when I said "scary", strange Thai girls helped me. There are more foreigners than Japanese. Everyone is helping each other, and that alone is worth going.

This is a wonderful place. We went during winter and it was freezing. Don't go by yourself. Take the minibus at the town, it will cost you 1.700 yen and includes the ride, the park entrance and a pair of boots.

I went there at 10 o'clock but it was snowing and I had lots of monkeys into a hot spring. It is comfortable so much ( )

A nature reserve park should always be preserved for the sake of our own humanity. This park offer a close proximity with the snow monkey. Its a variety of macaque monkey. It is also has hot spring area where the monkeys keep warm during severe winter. A visit is recommended al least to help finance the preservation of such park.

Had so much fun! The monkies were not scared of humans and would walk alongside people. We went around 930am and there wasn't a flood of people yet. The walk is pretty long and was muddy when we went.

Unfortunately we went during mating season so we only got to see two monkeys. Gorgeous scenery however so even worth the visit just for that!

I visited the park in the very early morning to bypass the crowds. It was a pleasant experience to observe the happenings with the monkeys in and around the pond. These monkeys are wild living animals, but they are getting decoyed with food, but I hope and I don t think, that this is a big issue for them.

It's pretty darn cool. Loads of monkeys about. It's a good 1.6 km hike there, so be wary of the little kids that may not want to hike that far.
Do take the opportunity to be in an onsen with the monkeys. Yes. The monkeys do their business in the water and it certainly isn't clean. It is a great experience.
The onsen near the gyser allows that opportunity. Evidently, you can stay there too.

Brilliant little park.. About 5 km from kokuya shibu onsen or 1100 yen in a cab. Moderate to hard walking skills as ground is very uneven especially in the winter. Quite alot of steps for anyone with walking difficulties, not many support rails either.

You can see the monkey up close. I went to autumn, but some of them are in the hot springs. You can understand the monkey ecosystem well, and the facility is well maintained and very beautiful! Be sure to go.

The mountain road from Shibu Onsen to this facility is a steep road that is difficult to pass, so you need to be enthusiastic! !!

I was very sad about this visit! Were doing work in the park and a monkie femalle was injured in a machine that was working, bled very much and screamed in pain. I went to inform the staff but they did not care. they said they were in their natural habitat and that they would treat themselves. But it is them who attract with food, for people to pay the park and not be disappointed if they do not see them. Not worth the visit!

One of my best experiences in japan. Try to take the mountain path very early in the morning. Maybe the monkeys will surprise you in the path
