Well worth the trip from Hakuba for us on a day when lifts were few because of wind.
It s a bit of a good leg to come here, it s worth seeing the natural and cute ape monkey friends!
Very cute monkeys will welcome you. Please be careful not to step on the monkey's droppings.
By the end of February 2019, the weather began to warm, snow melted, the ground was muddy. Take a walk back about 1 hour, the monkeys are soaked in water. There are staff to take care of food. Do not bring the cello inside. Cute monkey is not very fussy.
You can get very close to the snow monkies. It's a bit of a hike to get to the hot spring. Has a large crowd durring the winter.
First, the 15 minute walk surrounded by nature to get to the park. Second, the fact that the monkeys walk, amble, bathe and groom amongst everyone in the park. And last but not least...a live video feed. Luuuuuvvvved it.
A great experience for anyone visiting Nagano. A bit of a hike (about 1.8km up and down) but well worth the effort and the walk up is very scenic. Fortunately, lots of monkeys were around the park on the day that I went. Highly recommend.
I want to enter too! But it will be embarrassing to be seen by humans!
It is quite a mountain road after getting off the car. Don't get lost!
Honestly this place seems a little over rated, but I m still happy to have went because I always would have wondered. It was too warm so the monkeys weren t in the water. This means they were just hanging out on the rocks, which are kinda dingy. It s all very brown, the rocks, the monkeys, so it s kind of depressing. It s almost like being in the bottom of a quarry. The walk in, however, was beautiful! I m glad I went.
Loads of adorable monkeys with their babies, can see them right up close! Bit of a trek up the mountain to get there though (half an hour of hiking so come prepared)
I went for the first time in January this year. A child monkey runs under his feet. The children were very pleased. A
The place is really amazing in all seasons. We went in winter. Loved the place and the climb. Early morning visit is recommended as you can see the monkeys come and take a bath before their day begins. Although there is the smell of the money s poop lingering everywhere, the place is worth despite the bad smell.
Very recommended, watch the monkeys soak in the hot springs for healing, everyone's expressions are comfortable super invincible and cute
Because I went to Nozawa Onsen for skiing, I went with a local tour in Nozawa Onsen Village, arrived at the parking lot at 2 o'clock, and left the parking lot at 4 o'clock. The time is sufficient, after all, there is a pool in the wild monkey park.
From the parking lot to the monkey's hot spring pool, it takes 30 minutes to walk solidly, although it is very gentle, but the distance is quite long, and it snows in winter, and occasionally the ice melts on the road. So be sure to wear non-slip, waterproof shoes
Travel time: 31/12/2019
I am no friend of monkeys but the way to the monkeys is very beautiful because of its trees!
Very interesting place, the snowy winter hot springs are super cute.
A once-in-a-lifetime experience, It wasn't snowing but it was cold enough to see the monkeys bathe in the hot springs, a must see if you go to Nagano
Great hike up and forget about the picture, these are not natural pools but 1 made of concrete. Fun to see the monkeys. Think it will be more fun in the winter when they heat themselves in the hot water. Nice daytrip.
During a cold rainy day in late April, the snow monkey park was a wonderful experience. Lots of activity, the monkeys race around you.
The only place in the world where you can see snow monkeys bathing in hot springs. I recommend going when it's cold since the monkeys only get in the water to get warm or to eat. Also stay quite a while since they are fed every hour and that is when you have the opportunity to see them all in the water.
Expectations not disappointed. There are many macaques and you can see they are used to man. Walking near them, they do not seem frightened nor annoyed. Compared to other places where presence is guaranteed thanks to food, here it is more a question of habitat. So I guess it's easier to see them in low temperatures than in summer. Four stars only because the "park" is really small and the 800 yen ticket seemed a bit high.
Want to see snow monkeys bathing in hot springs this is the place but no contact with monkeys , just look & take photos
It's easy to see the monkey soaking in the hot springs, and the scenery along the mountain road is also good, but be careful when there is ice on the ground
Need to walk a long 30 min trek during winter into the park. Depend on luck whether you can view any of the snow monkey in the hot spring. The monkey is fed by the caretakers of the park. Thus the monkeys are not shy of human.
So cute a playful, love that theuh are not in cages or fenced, just in their natural habitat and being monitored to make sure we are not feeding or annoying them :)
With the fact that children are born in the early spring, there are many babies in August, which is very cute.
Best place....best time to visit is when it is cold and snowing then the monkeys will come into the hot springs pool.
Monkeys are neat and you can get very close, but they are dirty and it smells. There is also not much else to do around here.
I could spend hours here, the monkeys are quite peaceful compared to most other macaques Ive seen in Japan. It can get quite busy but these monkeys are literally perfect so who cares.
Instead of going here, I always take a hot spring called Korakuen to see monkeys. From the bathtub, you can see the tourists applauding Kozaru across the river.
You have to be prepared for a steep climb to the entrance and then a long walk through the forest to where the monkeys are. Quite expensive entrance fee
I saw a monkey poo while he was eating! (My group insists on including that).
Better than we expected. Very peaceful monkeys we were able to get very close to. We were lucky enough to arrive for lunch and there were oodles of monkeys.
I came to Golden Week. There was no snow. It was not far from walking from the parking lot. It was cute that a lot of monkey babies jumped and jumped and played on trees! The distance to the monkey was short and I was surprised.
On the way back, I went back to Jigokudani Onsen for a day. It was good to go A place where both adults and children can enjoy. it's recommended
It is a little far from the parking lot. To the extent of the entrance fee, Enoneuchi is narrow.
It an amazing experience. You are literally walking with all this monkeys and they are a lot. Probably the best season to visit the park is winter but even in summer it's awesome.
Only place to watch Snow Monkeys live in their natural environment.
A monkey soaking in a hot spring in the snow.
An incredible sight.
A monkey taking a hot spring.
It's kind of strange.
Do not be afraid of people's eyes.
Mysterious monkey.
Visited in January 2018 knowing existence on TV for foreigners.
The hot spring is not so big and people are watching around it.
Luckily, I could see the monkeys soaking in the hot spring and relaxing in the photos.
When I went to see it, it was about 40 minutes, but there was always 1 animal and when it was high there were 6 animals.
Depending on the day, it seems that there are many more, but it seems that I can not see it, so I'm satisfied with it.
It is access, but there is no car or bus to the local area. Get off near the entrance and walk for about 30 minutes. The road is easy to walk though it is not paved very much.
Most people passed by were foreigners. The appearance when watching a monkey was also fun.
A great day trip from Tokyo. Lots of snow monkeys to see and can easily get great photos. Do mind the walk through the forest and I recommend taking the express bus from Nagano station, as well as purchasing the day pass
When you walk into the park, you better to wear full gear of Gore Tex equipment, the road is slopper, the lower the temperature, the higher chance to see the Snow Monkey.
It is the only place where you can see wild Japanese monkeys entering hot springs. When walking about 1.6 km (25 minutes) of the forest road, I will go out to the river of Jigokudani hot spring. There is a monkey here, but from there it will be a further steep staircase and a slope to walk to the entrance to the monkey park (fee: 800 yen for adults, 400 yen for children). It is said that the monkey does not take a bath on a relatively warm day even in winter, so I think that it is good to check the temperature beforehand when going.
This one of th (and most of our friends') highlights of our Nagano trip. While I'm not sure how "wild" I would call the monkeys (they spread seeds for the to eat in the winter) it is an amazing experience to be able to walk among them. While they say to check the web cam (because they are not always at the hot springs) I feel you almost always see them due to the feedings (at least in the winter).
A beautiful experience of Japanese macaques in a protected park
A must-visit. Wonderful views, and the monkeys are EVERYWHERE.
Nice during winter time. Need to walk for maybe 30 minutes to get there. Can be very slippery at times.
Great to see theses guys taking a hot bath!
Beautiful landscape. The snow apes are really cute and are walking beside you
Classic spots, compared to other monkeys, it should be the best.
This year, there are many baby monkeys with double births from last year.
a monkey worthy of pilgrimage, but not cold enough to not soak
Those who wish to see the "monkey bathing" must go there, and there will be a snowy day to see.
Short walk (~30 mins) from the bus station. Totally worth it - dozens of monkeys, not skittish at all and not afraid to come close to humans. Keep in mind that this is not a zoo - monkeys come to the park when they want.
Come early, as they go back to the mountain tops around lunch time (based on our experience).
It s a great place. It takes about 30 minutes to go up the mountain, but I saw a monkey. WOW
What a unique experience! The monkeys are so active and run past your feet as if you don't exist which is such a cool and immersive experience. I personally love that they make you walk in the 30 min to the entrance as a way of deterring some people from going and it has the secondary effect of making you feel like you really are among the wild. Highly recommend going as it truly is a beautiful experience
Very interesting place. I have seen this place many times in National Geographic shows, but seeing it with bare eyes is different. Reaching to the onsen and the monkeys can be a problem for some walking handicapped people... It is more than 3 km. walk and some parts of the path is icey...But this is another must see in Hakuba Valley.
Amazing views, the trail walks was amazing and the habitat was very beautiful.
Loved every minute in there. It was very amazing experience.
Incredible experience! Up close and personal with the monkeys. Plenty of monkey's to see !
Worth the wander if you need a lay-day off Mountain
They charged us 800yen per person for the monkey park. We stayed there for an hour and we didn't see even 1 monkey. They should tell you before going in, shame on them.
It is a 25-minute walk from the parking lot one way. Worth going
Great place to be, nice view and monkeys are not afraid of you (they will not run from you while doing their activities, guess they are used to human as the "care takers" feed them. But beware they are not tamed as I saw one of them tried to snatch a plastic bag which was dangling from a bag of a lady. Be prepared to walk about 3.0km round trip and be back at the same bus stop before 4pm just to be sure to catch the last bus if you're going on your own.
NEVER buy any cookies from the gift shop as they are over-priced!
One of the most remarkable places to interact with macaques and nature
I'm glad I went.
It's about 20 minutes walk from the entrance, but it's not that hard.
I had a slight pain in my knee, but it was okay.
Anyway, there are a lot of baby monkeys
I was playing with each other ... it was cute.
Also, I could walk right next to it and shoot all-you-can-eat videos and cameras. If you are careful not to carry baggage such as sweets in a plastic bag, you will not feel more nervous than necessary.
Just before the park closed, the staff gave an apple to the monkey.
It was nice to see a lively monkey.
You can get so close the the monkeys. They can be curious so make sure you hold onto your stuff. It s about a 2km walk from the car park so take good shoes and warm clothes.
The ecological environment is great, snow is even better
Well worth a once in a lifetime visit. The Monkeys are comical and fun to watch.
I have visited it several times, but I can not see the monkey in the bath I am sorry I can get many cute pictures of monkeys
The monkeys are very relaxed, but will try to take your things if they see an opportunity. Be weary of the smaller ones as they enjoy creeping up on you to play!
This is a fantastic day out. Especially if you get an american guy named john as guide. Monkeys are adorable
Many parks in Japan have placed cable cars, lifts, or vending machines to make places accessible. May be this park is also considered same because you can reach by bus, but you have to walk 1.8 km (1.2 mile) to reach a park entrance and last struggle might be steep steps for those who bring a stroller.
I took a local train that leaves earlier than a first express train to beat crowds. Yudanaka Station doesn t have a nice waiting area.
Near by a convenience store Lawson has posted a sign Don t eat in the store.
Escaped to a foot bath (Ashli you) to soak my cold feet at Kaede no yu that locates behind of Yudanaka Station.
Great place to visit at winter. I suggest staying at a local inn to get the full experience as they are really lovely.
Was quite fun but the 30 min hike on the snow and ice to that area was not fun. Saw allot of people fall because they has unsuitable shoes. Make sure to wear proper shoes
