One of the most amazing places I have ever visited. Lovely monkeys:)
One of the most amazing places I have ever visited. Lovely monkeys:)
Went there to shoot Snow Monkeys, very nice place but crowded with tourists, photographers will swarm and cause a firing squad.
You can get closer outside the park, without paying the entrance fee though
So relaxing to see the monkeys. Sure, they're not entirely in their natural habitat, as humans have changed the landscape to better suit the monkeys. It's always awesome seeing them roaming and interacting, they love photos too, so they'll sit there posing like models while you snap a few shots. We were lucky to see a few babies as well. As awesome as the monkeys are, the walk to the park is great as well. You're surrounded by pine trees and snow (if you go in the colder season), only warning I can give is to take good snow shoes with good grip so you don't slip over on the walk way. Also please respect the park and don't feed the monkeys, you could make them very sick.
It is recommended to meet a monkey child at this time
A good place to watch muddy and iced surfaces when walking up in winter
Relatively easy to get there and the Snow Monkeys are worth seeing.
Far away
The monkey I saw before entering the garden was the most exciting
The monkey is near! Too close!
It's very cute and you can see the real life of monkeys.
If you go early in the morning, there are monkeys in the hot springs.
When you start feeding, you will get out of the hot spring.
It's a little difficult with a stroller, but I wonder if it's okay for children who can walk.
I have to do my best to walk!
The monkeys who are familiar with me loved the little monkeys that came pretty close
I also observe with live cameras, but nowadays there are more foreigners. It is time, but winter is recommended as it will not enter the hot spring unless snow is piled and it is not cold. It is regrettable that the appreciation area can not be approached by the installation of the fence now. Since I was able to see it in front of my eyes, it was fun that the small monkey climbed his feet and started playing with back strings ... When the number of people was large, the passage was narrow and it was difficult to pass each other. That was the only difficulty. It can not be helped as a result of consideration so that customers can see with peace of mind.
Absolutely awesome and very much what you see on the prospectus. The walk is just stunning. 1.6 km in the middle of the woods. Slow easy climb. Path is wide enough to accommodate walkers in both directions. A few steep stairs at the end. Can rest at the ticket booth go toilet and free water.
Worth 1.6 km walking in the freezing park for this amazing experience.
If you like nature and you are in the nearby, you cannot miss Jigokudani park
Nice place with lots of monkeys having fun in the hot water. In winter the place is beautiful with the snow but do not expect either a giant park ... The park comes down to the source and the path to access.
It is recommended to wear hiking shoes. Be sure to change your rain boots when it rains or snows ~! The scenery is beautiful, but the road is very dangerous and dangerous, please pay attention to it!
A bit of a walk in.... Bring at least decent sneakers and be prepared for them to get dirty esp if it has rained. Well worth a visit - esp when there is snow.
For anyone who's got second thoughts on going to Jigokudani because of the Lonely Planet's horrible description, don't take any stock in what they say.
It's not a "grueling" hike up to the entrance. It's a pleasant stroll that's barely perceptible as a climb. Plenty of senior citizens and overweight people on the trail and not out of breath.
Also, their description of the road way walk to the trail head is completely inaccurate. Yeah there's a bit of detritus in some yards, but there are real people living on that road. It's as if the authors have never been to India.
We went in early April and the path was extremely muddy, so prepare yourself. You can rent wellies or hiking boots at the shop at the trail head.
Definitely make a trip here if you can and rip those pages out of your Lonely Planet, they're useless.
Really really cool place to see the Snow Monkeys up close. A little bit of a hike, but well worth it.
It's one of the most amazing experience in my trip so far! We went yesterday morning (7/1/2016) and the place was already filled with snow. Yes there's snow showers but be prepared for the path to be muddy and wet. Nontheless, if you visit in the middle of January or early February you can definitely see snow-filled path.
I recommend getting shoes that has crampons or you can buy crampons at the info and gift shop. It is really useful for those who are wearing sneakers or none trekking shoes.
A walk through a quiet, majestic and beautiful calm tall palm trees should be in your bucket list. So go for it!
One of the coolest places in Japan! The monkeys are not separated from visiting humans by anything but their own will. It's cool to see them in their hot tubs. Please visit this park if you happen to be in Nagano Prefecture!
I walk quite a lot from the entrance. There are many foreigners, and almost no Japanese can be heard. Small monkeys are cute!
Monkeys are enjoying themselves and are recommended.
I love the environment and vibes here.
Photo in January
Monkey see monkey do. Would recommend wearing hiking shoes in the winter. The trail is pretty slick.
In front of you Sarusuboshi!
10 minutes walk to the parking lot or monkey
I recommend sneakers as they walk on bad roads. There are no fences at the time of the visit, and there is a monkey nearby. If you take your hand easily, a monkey who misunderstands that you will get food will attack you. be careful.
The road to Jigokudani Monkey Park is also in the depths of the mountain with the cliff road where only one chariot can pass. Even a small car is tough. Let's be careful about driving.
Good distance to walk , you can enjoy fresh forest air and taking pics with wild Japanese monkey. Be careful not to look their eyes directly and not to feed any food.
The park is rather unkempt and the monkey tank is one, rather small and surrounded by people who take pictures and videos continuously. To get there from Nagano it takes more than an hour by train, plus the bus plus a (beautiful) walk in the woods for 35 minutes. Let's say it's not worth the time and money spent (1260 yen train plus 320 yen bus plus 800 yen admission plus same costs on return).
It was quite impressive.
The monkey has spent a hot spring since he ate rice. Customers who came to see it also delighted
Park and trails where you can see forest, hot spring and monkeys.
You can see wild donkeys, but you don't necessarily see wild hot springs.
Unique. Been several times over the years. Always gets better. Enjoy the beautiful trail on the walk... And leave plenty of time so your not rushing.
Awesome place during winter, keep you distance from those monkeys.
Just get there, you won't regret it! Hordes of monkeys running everywhere and bathing in onsen right in front of you, what are you waiting for?
Entrance fee is just 800 yen and cards are accepted.
Be prepared for a short 2 km walk between parking and park entrance.
There are a lot of foreign tourists. Curious is taking a bath. I think it s a little fun.
It is interesting to be so close to wild animals that are in perfect balance with nature and man. Despite the cold, the thaw that made our climb difficult, it was refreshing to see the monkeys so calm. I remember that the path is a slight uphill 1.8 km. As we went in the spring we found a lot of clay which soaked our shoes. It is best to rent rubber boots in a shop at the beginning of the climb so you can enjoy the ride better
This place was soooo cool! Though it is full of tourists (people just like you) it is exactly what you'd expect. A bunch of monkeys in a hot spring!
You'll only spend about 20~30 minutes looking at them before you get bored though.
However, do not "expect" there to be monkeys in the hot spring. Ask the staff at the parking area at the bottom first if it's worth making the walk up and paying the fee. Luckily there were heaps of monkeys when I went :D
We visited the park during the summer. I was impressed by the walk through the Mountain to the park mor than the Monkey park. I think the park will be worth visiting in the winter because the Monkey like to take baths at that time more than during the summer.
Really great experience but it is a HIKE and definitely not accessible to many people with disabilities.
Pretty much a tourist trap, I think in winter if would be better
One of my all time favourite tourist spots! Good walk and fantastic view of monkey families. They come up and close to humans, interesting!
Cute to see monkeys bathing in the outdoor onsen bath.
Well worth the wait for the monkeys to come down from the mountain! When we went they came out an hour later than usual, but they showed up nonetheless
Paid parking lots have sections that cannot be passed each other, so you need to be enthusiastic and guts
I think it is difficult for the elderly to arrive safely and climb to the park.
However, even with such a hard time, when I meet the monkeys, it blows away. At the zoo
There is excitement and peace that you cannot taste.
The parking lot was kind and gave a good impression, but the reception at the public park was not enthusiastic and the impression was bad, so it was a star minus one.
Because the road surface freezes at this time
It s quite dangerous if your feet do n t slip.
There are a lot of horses, all of whom are good friends. It's so cute to go to the hot spring on top of them in winter. But slip carefully
It is a somewhat dilapidated site poorly conditioned for visitors. The facilities are maintenance free.
There are a lot of wild monkeys. Personality is gentle ..
Although it is not a great distance from the paid parking lot, since there are ups and downs, let's wear proper shoes.
Motorcycle parking is 200 yen behind the parking lot office.
Monkeys were very cute and friendly. We went there early April so they weren't in onsen. However, we saw a naked human on our way up the hill...
The monkey at Jigokudani Yaen-Koen was cute.
Although it was said that it was a weekday, there were no foreign tourists, so I was able to observe very slowly.
I was lucky to come during this time when the number of people was small because the facility itself was not so large.
But I also want to come in the snowy season.
A precious place where you can watch the monkeys close by.
Jigokudani is famous for snow monkeys soaking in hot springs. There are a lot of monkeys nearer than expected. In winter, it takes about 20 or 30 minutes to reach Jigokudani, so be careful with your shoes. By the way, monkeys living in such a cold place seem to be extremely rare even in the world.
Unfortunately the monkeys are feed
So you will see " wild" monkeys 24/7
On the on other hand at the hotel / pension you can see for free the Monkeys.
If you stay there you could also enjoy a hot pool with the monkeys
Parking fee 500 yen + admission fee 800 yen It takes adult. Good for those who like monkeys
Not just monkey, I spot a wild deer but I have no idea what is that i consider myself lucky.
Perfect place.
Be sure to visit. From Nagano station by bus (about 1,500 yen) in one direction, drive for 40-60 minutes. From the bus stop to the monkeys themselves - on foot 40 minutes. The path is worth all the effort) a beautiful forest.
Shoes and clothes are offered for rent, which is important in autumn, winter and spring.
I really want to come here ...
JIGOKUDANI MONKEY PARK
Nice views... amazing place for pictures. Please don't behave like a stupid tourist and drop garbage here
Super cute monkeys in hot springs.
What more do I have to say?
A lot of monkeys. It is the best. If you bring a telephoto zoom, the monkey is too close to focus. It is very cute. Foreigners were about half.
When you notice, you're in front of your feet and eyes
Unfortunately, I couldn't meet the monkeys, but I was deeply impressed with the management attitude of the public people. I think that it is very kind for people coming from far away, such as information dissemination on the web centering on real-time webcams and blogs, and information on whether or not it is near the Shibu Onsen. Nevertheless, I was approached by the monkeys who were wild, and the consideration of keeping the wild as much as possible was transmitted. I feel that I will come back honestly. The facility with the gate at the park entrance also has a clean toilet. If you come from the nearest parking lot in Shibu Onsen, the way is steep, so trekking and mountain shoes are better than town sneakers.
This reservation located almost an hour by bus from Nagano is a must on your visit to the region. The area is located along a river and the macaques run completely free at will. They are usually concentrated around More
Today I found out that the monkeys were absent and sometimes not. Looking back at Korakukan, I will return without entering the garden.
Although it is a long walk to the actual monkey park, the scenery is breathtaking. Take care on the ice though ! The monkeys are beautiful
2018.12.22
Snow monkeys are extremely popular overseas, and almost all foreign tourists pass each other on the way.
The road should be solid as the snow melts and dirt easily gets dirty.
Nice monkeys. Small park but worth it if you are here. In the winter I pine nicer.
You can see the monkeys as they are, unlike zoo monkeys.
You can see the monkeys from very close, definitely worth a visit.
Insufficient facilities, rotten ground, finer than expected
I couldn't see the curious. It seems that it will come down in winter when there is no food.
There are many monkeys
I thought it would be very difficult to walk on the mountain road for 30 minutes, but I could afford it because it was easy to walk. I understand that manners are important, but when I saw the tourists watching tourists do something to the monkeys, I was so nervous. So without a star
the only snow monkey park in Japan but if u want to see monkey go into the onsen must in really cold winter .
Such an amazing experience. The monkeys would just walk right past you and happily feed around you. Watching the monkeys run down the hill at lunch time and bath in the hot springs was spectacular. Couldnt have asked for anything more. Easy to access and they had a special combo deal that included rail and bus from Nagano as well as entry to the pass (these lines are not JR). Beautiful views and a great monkey experience, would be better with a bit of snow around.
Make sure to wear boots or shoes you don't mind getting muddy! Doesn't seem like it's cold enough for the monkeys to go in the water, but it was a great experience nonetheless! Worth checking out before hitting the onsens. We caught feeding time, which was really cool.
A monkey is relaxing in the hot spring. Tiny. Very far but worth going if you like monkeys.
Reachable by bus from Yudanaka Station. The bus is not very frequent so calculate your time accordingly. From the bus stop it's about 30/40 minutes walk in the forest. The path is very easy and flat, but not paved, so during rainy days it's extremely muddy. There are a lot of monkeys, and some would get in the hot spring if it's cold enough. The entrance ticket is only for the final part where there are monkeys and the hot spring, you could also see some monkeys roaming outside this area though.
Beautiful! When there is snow you should really buy shoe-strap-ons with spikes at the shop in front of the stairs that lead up the forrest path from the road
