This hotel was not worth the price we paid. We stayed in tower 3 for 4 nights so we had to walk in and out of the building if we wanted to go in the lobby, and or get breakfast. Their restaurant wasn't up and running yet, but they included it as a feature/amenity when you stay there. Breakfast is not included, but if you want it you have to pay extra. We got breakfast vouchers which we used at the Hazlewoods On The Bay Cafe & Deli. They actually have really good food there and recommend it highly. Our room which was on the 12th floor had a great view of the bay, however it had a faint moldy/musty smell every time you walked in. There were water stains on the ceiling and the room was actually kind of small. It didn't include a microwave or small refrigerator. The bed was comfortable enough however the pillows were a joke, they would go flat as soon as you rested your head on them. We had to stack pillows 3 high just so we could get decent support/comfort. One of the nights we were there the building lost power around midnight. I asked a security guard in the building and he said that it was a problem with a generator. We recovered power only to lose it again, except this time the smoke detector decided to go off. We waited about 5 minutes to see if the alarm would stop...it didn't. So we called the front desk and they said that the fire department was working on it and it should be fixed soon. We waited 20 more minutes and it was still blaring in our room. We finally called and said if it wasn't fixed we wanted a new room or we'd leave. They immediately sent me over to the manager or whoever was in charge, he apologized and said he'd send someone up. About 10 minutes later (we've had this alarm blaring in our room for at least 30 minutes now) He show up and takes a look at it, he pushes buttons and can't figure out what s wrong. He says that he's going to bring up the engineer to take a look at it. 15 minutes later (45 minutes into alarm blaring) 5 men show up in our room at 1 in the morning and decide that the best thing to do was to yank the smoke detector off the wall. After all that all we really got was an apology. Which is fine, but we kind of felt they should've offered us some kind of compensation for everything we had to deal with. The last bad thing about this place is the Wi-Fi. It s basically nonexistent. For some reason our wireless carrier (Verizon) got spotty reception around the hotel area so we were going to rely on the Wi-Fi. It sucks, the Wi-Fi was the worst of any hotel we've ever stayed in. We just ended up using whatever spotty service we got from our phone to get online.
In all I would personally not stay here again. With that being said the hotel does have some good things. The location is excellent. If you get a bay view, then it s beautiful. It is within walking proximity to the bay, restaurants, and the USS Midway museum. They offer complimentary shuttle to and from the airport and to the zoo. However, once spending time is San Diego, there are way better hotels we could've stayed at and paid just as much (Maybe slightly more, but worth it) or even less.
