Creme Brulee french Toast! What an idea! Yummo! I also had filet mignon hash! Enough food for two meals!
Creme Brulee french Toast! What an idea! Yummo! I also had filet mignon hash! Enough food for two meals!
Sunday am about a 30 min wait. But once you've wrapped your lips around whatever you ordered you'll have forgotten all about waiting in line. If you like they'll take your phone # and call you when ready. I'm super impressed!
If you have a heart condition (fair warning). Or you want this to be your last meal. Or just enjoy an amazing size comfort food. This is the place. Hands down. Very nice portions and tasty
Always a wait BUT WORTH EVERY BITE !! A must go if youre ever in Salem,Oregon
Delicious food and very friendly service! I will definitely go here again
THE. BEST. I love everyone here. It's worth the wait, and you don't even have to wait there... They can text you. It's pretty awesome. Huge portions, great prices. And if you like bacon, you will die and go to heaven once you've had a bite of theirs
One of the local favourite and the top spot if you are looking for great brunch. This place has a great menu and is good for tourists driving by. On a Saturday or Sunday morning the wait can easily be up to 1 hour 30 min and they do not take reservations over phone. The place is rather small in size to manage the demand and it would be great of they could expand their seating area. Its not easily visible from the car so keep an eye out for a house like building next to a parking lot.
Best place in Salem for quality original food and great service. You can tell the owners care!
Try the creme brulee french toast! I dream of those!
Good food and service. Love the "old home" atmoshpere. Wait time is long normally so be prepared.
Extensive menu, slightly higher price than competitors, but not unreasonable.
Recommend the experience at least once.
The online site is less than thrilling and disconnected. Not user friendly nor something I would look at again.
It's great. Loooong wait. I go across the street to King Donuts for a donut appetizer.
Delicious food, great atmosphere. Worth the wait, but may want to call ahead and skip the line :)
Amazing food and amazing people. It's like sitting down to a family breakfast. Has a very antique style vibe. Food is very fair priced for the portions and quality. If you're in the area at all it's worth visiting.
Excellent as always!!! Love this place and all worth the wait!!!
The veggie patty is seriously life changing! Wait list is long but completely worth it.
Very delicious food. Just expect a wait that could be 1 hour or more. You can call ahead to find out the wait When you put your name in, you can give them your phone number to call when it is close to your turn for a table. They are very generous and often send out free samples of their food to tables. Have visited many times and the hardest part is narrowing down what to order because there are so many good options.
Word of Mouth is worth the wait, no matter how long. The food always satisfies, the prices are good, and service is great.
Just WAYYYY to longof wait for average food. People who give it 4-5 stars obviously don't get out much to eat. Been here 4 times which equates to 8 hours of waiting to eat t the "famed" place. Like I said food is average at best. You could go to Acme Car or Busicks and get better food and wayyy less wat time...
Headed to Word of Mouth Saturday morning. I got the Creme Brulee French Toast with a side of bacon. Both were delicious. The bacon was both thick and wide with great flavor - I need to find out where the purchase their bacon, because this took bacon from my second favorite food to my first. The French Toast was delicious but oh so sweet.
Would be five if you brought back lunch menu on the weekends
There is usually a wait, but it's more than worth it! Great food, atmosphere and service!
Amazing food! Wait was long but we got right in at the bar. Even got a free sample. Looking for a nice breakfast spot? Go here.
Everyone raves about word of mouth. It's fine. It's entirely to crowded all the time. The food, which is a very generous portion of food, is mediocre. It's classic American food that's made the same every single day.
This place is great! Cozy, good food and excellent service. Showed up this morning at just before 8am and the wait was only about 20min. I really appreciate the texting feature they use now to let you know when your table is ready. We often go across the street to King Donuts and buy a cup of coffee while we wait. :)
What can one say? If the food we're not great, you would not see people standing in the rain waiting to dine here. My favorite is breakfast here, their hashes are supurb.
Crazy good. My sons have NEVER not finished breakfast. The wait was a little long but what do you expect from such a delicious and popular restaurant.
Worth the wait. They will call your cell when your table is ready. You will be pleasently surprized. Serving sizes are huge and sharable. Staff is awesome. Bathrooms are awesome.
The best brunch food I have had in while! The place is so cozy and had fun decorations. A great place to eat with your family and friends.
35 min wait for a table so we left. We have had good meals there in the past. Bring a book or your phone if you have time to wait!
Wonderful place to eat, had enough food for two people.
Love the place the food is awesome the employees are great very friendly clean but long wait I guess I've it's good it's worth waiting for
Amazing flavors, huge portions, exceptional service!
I'm from Portland and I'm willing to drive here for a good breakfast and great customer service!! It's a Must visit!!
Love their food its amazing. Their Service is also amazing. Im glad I live away from salem otherwise I would have lunch there every day.
Fantastic food! The biscuits and gravy were some of the best I've ever had! Only problem is how small the place is. Expect a 30+ wait but well worth it!
Delicious! Definitely plan ahead for the wait, though.
Great breakfast spot. Hefty portions that were delicious and very affordable.
Are you kidding me?? That is the best breakfast I've ever had. The flying biscuit is legendary. The service matched the food quality. Our waiter was awesome and very friendly.
The best place in town to get breakfast!!! I love the staff and cute house they have their restaurant in. The veggie hash and prime rib hash are my favorites!
Always a fantastic experience when coming here! Employees are always kind. My favorite dish so far is the Trucker Love combo with corned beef hash. Their fruit cups are incredible, they offer a "random act of YUMness" which is how I've sampled their blueberry pancakes, some seasonal items and creme brulee french toast. Kids portions and prices are great. I always get a cup of coffee, and the hot cocoa is delicious! Most reviews I've seen with poor ratings are due to wait time to be seated, and wanting a bigger space. If they (WOM) expanded, quality would change... as would your wait time. I think this place is well worth putting your name down for a 2 hour wait.
Cinnamon roll pancakes are a must have here. The food is worth the wait. Plan on splitting entrees as the portion size is huge.
I can't say enough amazing things about this place! Amazing food. We ordered 2 meals and the portions were large. Everything we had was excellent. The best chicken fried steak in the world. All of the food from the steak to potatoes to the glorious pancakes were 10/10. Great staff as well. I drove an hour to eat at word of mouth and it was worth the drive.
Delicious food. Worth the wait and the price every time
I come here regularly and am never disappointed in the food or the service. Everything is always outstanding.
My favorite spot in Salem. Beautiful food, hearty portions, great service, cool and fun atmosphere, great owners, I'm just in LOVE! Try the Incredible Flying Biscuit! Wow!
Hot damn, check this place out and be hungry when you do. Keep in mind there is usually a couple hour wait so you need to put your name in (in person) and come back later.
First time here and it's too easy to over order. The flying biscuit and pancakes were delicious and way too big to finish. But we did take it home. Oh and our server was great. We lucked out with practically no wait, but there was a line when we left.
When we first moved to Salem, my wife I started asking around where we could find the best breakfast. People recommend Annette's, Busick Court, and the Sassy Onion. We tried them, and two of the three were pretty good while the other was not at all. Not gonna name names, but, uh,... *cough* Sassy Onion *cough*.
After a few months of eating pretty good breakfast, the Willamette Weekly put out their "Best of..." list and hand Word of Mouth as their number one pick. We decided to try, and low and behold this was the best breakfast place... not just in the Willamette Valley, but all of Oregon, maybe even all of the country. Dare I say, the world?
Allow me to pontificate on a few of the exceptional traits that make Word of Mouth the absolute best.
Service:
I have never been into a place that supplies a service to the public where the staff all wear genuine smiles. Every time we are there, the staff looks happy to have us, and every other customer. Some of the ones we see more regularly remember us. Always a pleasure. Additionally, we regularly receive something called a "random act of yum!" Usually it takes place in the form of a slice of creme brulee french toast, but can vary. These aren't something that we pay for, they are given as freely as hippies would give love in the 60s.
Highlights from the Menu:
Everything. Literally. Everything. My wife and I have tried most of the menu. My go to is a hot chocolate (out of this world decadence), and the Trucker Love (biscuits and gravy with a side of hash). Words cannot describe the hash. What does one say about something that cannot be described? Words just won't do. Try it yourself. Other standouts would be The Flying Biscuit, Plate of Love, and the filet mignon chicken fried steak (yeah, you read that right).
Exclusivity:
If you don't get to Word of Mouth right at opening, you are in for a wait. Like, maybe half your day. I see this as a good thing. It cuts out the non-believers, those folks not truly dedicated to delicious breakfast. So when you get inside you know you are surrounded by those that get "it". Plus, the long wait allows you sometime to check out the antiques store next door, and get a donut and some coffee at King's across the street.
Sorry I didn't post a picture, you'll just have to find out for yourself what it is all about.
This place ruined breakfast for me in the best way possible. Their cinnamon roll pancake is unbelievably good, the ribs are delicious, and the prices are more than fair. I've never eaten at a breakfast place that was this good, and I don't expect I'll ever find a place better than this.
Excellent corn beef hash. Great atmosphere. Worth the wait.
WoM never disappoints. Their breakfasts are amazing with such big portions! The cinnamon roll pancakes are the best.
Place so popular you have to plan on waiting but soooo worth the wait. Parking is hassle though.
Absolutely, without a doubt, the best breakfast place in all of Oregon. Expect a 45minute to 1 hour wait. I recommend putting your name on the list, and then hopping down to a nearby coffee shop to sip and chat while waiting for a table.
Delicious food and a cool, dog friendly atmosphere.
This place is a great spot to eat, the servers are friendly and the food is delicious. They also remember my name which is awesome!
Great food, sourced local, great portions.... Service is top notch.... I just wish I was local so I can eat here more regularly. I will definitely stop here next time I'm in the area visiting
The food and drinks are amazing!! Often a wait for seating.. but most definitely worth it :)
Living up to its name I heard about Word of Mouth from a coworker and it didn't disappoint. Generous portions, unique dishes and welcoming staff are just the tip of the iceberg. The homestyle feel and intimate atmosphere along with the adventurous decor make Word of Mouth a must-visit in Salem.
Hard to find parking and well over an hour wait to eat.
Was visiting Oregon from Utah and a friend suggested to try this place and maaaan...hands down the BEST French toast I have ever had. Also the portions are huge for a decent price. We knew there would be a wait(cause its so dang good) and we waited 90 minutes for a seat but the wait was definitely worth it.
Wow, don't want to spoil it for you , but you will enjoy!
I want to go to there...again. If you're a lady, make sure you visit the restroom.
I had the creme brulee French toast.... oh my god!!!!! Love it. The staff is awesome also. More food than I could ask for. This is my new breakfast place when I am in Salem.
Best breakfast and brunch menu in the city! Cozy atmosphere with friendly staff and kitschy decoration.
Great Food, Great Service !
My wife and I enjoyed breakfast at Red's Sandwich Shop on Central Street this past weekend. We love that this restaurant is near Derby Square and right in downtown Salem and convenient to where ever we want to go in town, like The PEM ! The waitstaff was great (thanks Janelle), the menu was just right and the food...
Asparagus + brie omelette with biscuits omg. Plan for a long wait unless you go early and during the week--but it's totally worth the wait. Funky house turned incredible breakfast joint. DON'T MISS THE WOMEN'S BATHROOM. Unless you're a guy, then I'm not sure what to tell you. Food is as wonderful as the service. There are many food options and be prepared to have food to go because portions are quite generous. Overall a place to take your time a enjoy your food.
They had delicious food and great service, it was a bigger meal than I thought!! I wish I was able to eat it all but I just simply was too full!! Loved it and would definitely come back another time!
Food and service unparalleled anywhere in Salem. Best bloody Mary I've ever had.
Word of mouth Bistro is such a gem in Salem. Every time I have to travel down there to meet with clients I always make sure to make a special trip over here. I cannot say enough great things about their food. The bacon itself is worth a More
Great little brunch spot in Salem. I travel through for work and always make a stop here. There's always been a 30 minute wait, but it's worth it. Once seated, we've always felt our food has come out reasonably quick.
Amazing food and great prices. They always keep the menu fun and interesting...a must see place!
This place give me so much joy. Expect to wait, but I promise, it's worth it.
