One of the gems of living in the New York City area. WKCR plays a variety of music, including an incredible selection of jazz, as well as classical, American (sort of like "roots') Indian, and an occasional basketball game. Terrific to listen to, especially when they do a birthday tribute to a great artist. Their dean of djs is Phil Schaap, who never seems to shut up, but he has a vast knowledge of the history of jazz owing to his having grown up in southeast Queens with some of the greats.
