Wintergreen slopes are well maintained and they keep the snow fresh for a day of skiing... Going when it is busy though causing long waits for the lift

Awesome place my daughter did snowbowboarding lessons with Jacob and he was an amazing instructor
Absolutely a great four seasons resort with two golf courses. Pro tennis courses and great pools, lakes, hikes and even a natural water slide! Not to mention the great skiing! We love VRBO property 70 steps 5 bedroom house!
Great service & great skiing when the weather cooperates. Not a large resorts but the lifts are quick so you're not waiting in line for long. Easy shuttle service from your rental to the slopes if your aren't staying slopeside.
Stayed at a room in the Vistas and was able to have an incredible view from the balcony. Many activities to do around and in the resort.
Great resort with lots to do. Nice range of slopes for east coast skiing/riding.
Went during the summer for company getaway.
The resort is huge. You have to drive just to get to various parts of the resort. Thankfully they do have a shuttle you can call if you're near a phone - beware that you might not have cell service to call it from anywhere!
We had an awesome cabin - clean, nice amenities, plenty of parking, and there was a bathroom with shower for each of the four rooms.
Food - keeping in mind that our meals were buffet-style (which is presumably different from what you'd normally get there) the food was kinda bad. e.g. inedible hashbrowns, tasteless eggs, hard french toast sticks, etc.
"Discovery Ridge" activities were ok.
Cool: bungee trampoline, mechanical bull, air hockey
Lame: mini golf course (the holes were just really "cheap"), zip lining (nice elevation drop, but only the one drop, and it's 15 minutes of prep & waiting for a <10 second ride).
Neutral: Plenty of video game consoles & games if you want sit-down break. Hill Tubing - 1-4 connected tubes going down a plastic track on a hillside.
There were also activities at Lake Monocan, but the lake is a 20 minute drive east of the resort. The resort also has a pool of it's own (has a deep end and everything!), so the lake wasn't that appealing to me.
Hiking was nice, though the trail maps they provided were kinda terrible - they weren't accurate and didn't give important information like elevation change.
Overall, I just can't recommend going during the summer - you can hike, swim, zip-line, etc elsewhere without having to pay resort prices, and get better food to boot. Definitely not a 5-star experience, but the cabin was great and the staff are friendly & helpful, so not a 3-star experience either.
Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Great place to take a break from skiing
Its so humble and you can make so many memories I love this place
Great resort for skiing. Beautiful facility and friendly staff. Highly recommended.
First and last time there! It's very over pricey for what offer, I paid for lesson that I could learn by myself because our instructor was too old to show something or help, the rest are very simple food and in general is a waste of money. Very disappointed
1 bedroom condo had excellent accommodations. The condo had all of the kitchen amenities of home and everything was in great condition. The shuttle service, guest services and maintenance were very responsive and they all worked diligently to ensure our needs were met. We will definitely be back!
Great place to stay, wonderful skiing, golfing is not too bad either.
Beautiful, peaceful resort. Love the Wintergreen Summer Music Festival and Academy!!!
No, elevator! The sole reason for 3 stars! We had a terrible weather experience, but I know that is out of their control. The rooms are nice and most have a unique flare with respect to decoration. I have a large, extended family, and got to see several versions of the rooms available. These rooms are timeshares, and you can tell the people who care, and who just waits for the next check. Do your research to have the best experience! I have young children. The up and down, with all the equipment, was not fun!
WE RENTED A PRIVATE CONDO AT THE RESORT FOR 3 FAMILIES. FULL KITCHEN, BATH, LIVING ROOM , FIREPLACE AND PATIO. VERY NICE, CLEAN AND REASONABLY PRICED. SKII RESORT FEES WERE RELATIVELY AFFORDABLE. THE RESORT LODGE/LOUNGE OFFER A VARIETY OF HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES FOR FAMILY AND CHILDREN. SHOPS AND MORE. THE DRIVE IN TOWN APPROXIMATELY 25 MINUTES HAD LIMITED OPTIONS AVAILABLE. ACCESSIBLE -5, FRIENDLY-5, EASE OF DOING BUSINESS-5, LODGE ACTIVITIES =5.
It was fun and people were friendly. Planning on visiting again in the near future.
Had breakfast at The Copper Mine Bistro. It was delicious!
The condos that you can rent are wonderful, they are two story, with a balcony, a full kitchen, and a fireplace. The restaurant's are a bit pricy, but the food is good. The ski slopes are very nice. The rental boots are a bit uncomfortable, but that's to be expected of any footwear that you didn't break in. It's a beautiful resort, and I would recommend it if you were looking for somewhere to go skiing.
Really nice place. Cool rooms and plenty of activities for to fill the time. Can't do it all in one weekend
Rarely open for dinner but went to their fourth Friday buffet which was fabulous. A five star meal but hard to sort out when open
Fantastic ski hill with lots of variety. While there isn't a ton of natural snow, the snow making equipment is top notch, so any cold weather means it is skiable
Minus the unseasonable weather, this was a great trip. The room was clean and cozy, and the food while pricey, was delicious. Would definitely go again.
We are on day 1 of 3 and what I've noticed so far is that nothing opens until 9am which is tough when you want coffee even first thing in the morning. I like that it's quiet and look forward to the next couple days.
The people are amazing, very helpful and I'd definitely go back and stay there.
My wife and I make a yearly trip down from DC to get away from things. This place is peaceful and relaxing. We always enjoy it.
I enjoy my stay every year. The staff is pleasant and willing to accommodate. The cleaning crew is thorough. The reason this review isn't a perfect 5 stars is the the rooms need some updating. They are starting to show the heavy use they get. Thank you for all the updates you are in the process of completing in the lobby it looks great... maybe the rooms are next..!?
We went just to snow tube. You couldnt beat 34 dollars for a session of 1.5 hrs. It was really fun! We went March 7th so it was a little slushie, it's almost Spring of course. My only recommendation would be have a breeze threw after you go down hill. So you don't half to haul your tubes across the snow lanes. Overall, very fun! We will be back!! We appreciated the free shuttle too!
Fantastic resort. Great for day or overnight trips.
Yes, you have to temper your expectations for skiing in Virginia.
But there are things that make Wintergreen problematic that can be controlled and aren't. First, they let too many people in, so the lines are too long. (Lines EVERYWHERE--lines to buy tickets, lines to rent gear, lines to get on the lift, lines to get food ... lines, lines, lines.) Second, it is very expensive. We paid almost $400 for a family of 4 to ski for one day (which is too much for what you get). Finally, their lift broke down and they couldn't repair it, which meant that they had to close HALF of the mountain.
Just to put this all in perspective, I have an app that lets me track my runs. I spent 5H 4M at Wintergreen. Of that time, I spent only 31 MINUTES SKIING. I spent 41 minutes going up lifts. And I SPENT 3 H 51 MINUTES WAITING IN LINES.
The operation is just too frustrating. It does not make for a fun ski day.
It was a nice trip. Weather conditions weren't great but the experience was fun!
I went to wintergreen for snowboarding. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there.
Had a very nice weekend in this resort with a few friends and don't have any complaints besides the slightly elevated prices.
Great snow making to keep the slopes fun and safe. Nice staff. Could do a better job keeping the side walks free of ice around the condo buildings.
Got a 2 bedroom condo and loved it. Good hikes, good food and drink.
I live in Richmond but enjoy snowboarding when I get a chance. Wintergreen is the better than Massanuten but if you have more than a single day then drive to snowshoe.
The resort was a in BEAUTIFUL place, there was lots of interesting and amazing places under 30 minutes from the resort including Blue ridge pkwy, antique shops, trails and waterfalls, overlooks and more. The only problem I had at the resort was the toilet would not flush and the condo I stayed in was moldy and it made my whole entire family sick and stuffy. I'm sure wintergreen will fix it though with the hard working employees they have. Overall I had a great visit at Wintergreen Resort!
Had a blast night boarding last Thursday. Not too crowded, good sno base, and good lighting.
Clean place...fresh miuntain air...forest...and high-end service make this an exceptional vacation destination. I come here seceral times a year and never leave disappointed.
Overall, it was quite a fun spring skiing weekend. We lucked out on the weather, conditions, and crowds. But that was primarily mother nature's doing. Had to stay in Waynesboro though because the condo rental prices and fees are absurd. So the place was maybe at 20% capacity and all those rentals sat empty. We likely would go up a lot more often if accommodations weren't so out of control.
I quisquis in years ago but what an awesome place to meet people and just to hang out and have an awesome dinner
The customer service was excellent once we brought to their attention what was wrong with the house. The area is beautiful and we will be returning.
My favorite local Snowboard destination, its not as exiting as west coast BUT, its not bad considering the southeast doesnt exactly have the tallest mountians. I gave them a 3 out of 5 because there's always at least one small incident, wether it's maids stealing our envelope of stickers, ultra slow board tunes, or in today's case an incompetent lift operator who wasn't paying attention to us yelling to slow down for my wife (who's a beginner) nor was he paying attention when the lift ran her over . luckily shes very small and once she worked her board free the lift passed over her and she scrambled back to her feet just in time for the lift operator to hit the stop. All in all it's not a bad spot, I just wish the black diamonds were open and that they add lighting for night skiing.
Wintergreen is a beautiful resort. The views are absolutely stunning and the slopes are terrific for skiing or hiking, depending on the season.
Well I stayed at a friend's house, but the slopes are great
You may get discount if you are student and enroll from website a day before. They have skilled trainers. Only cons is the beginner area is so steep. I wish this could be less..
During the off-season not a lot is open. Service is okay but they do not fix things when they say they would.
Lots of things to do in the area off season. We rented a house that slept 9 and had a great time with 2 other couples. Splitting the rate by 3 was no more expensive than a hotel.
Wonderful place for vacation. The community is awesome.
Nice resort close to Cville, beautiful views, abundance of activities
Had a great time at the resort, we went for the snowboarding. The resorts facilities are top of the line. There are plenty of slopes for the area, with a wide range of difficulty from green to black. The only gripe I have is with how strict the staff is, blowing their whistles at you for pretty much everything. It is by no means like other resorts that are lax. Still a great time however, I would do it again!
The ski rental process was a bit confusing. Where the skis and boots are scanned out and fitted - that process was slow. The slopes were in great condition, though, and The Edge restaurant was great.
It is really nice. Very snowy and cold. Recommended.
Since the got the new snow system, I prefer driving the hour to Wintergreen instead of 3 to Snowshoe. The conditions have been better, always go at 9am then leave by noon weekdays. Ssshhhh! Our secret.
The resort was beautiful and we had lots of fun. However, when I was leaving and checking out, I saw I was charged $1 a day for a donation. When I asked the front desk lady about it she explained that in the fine print of the confirmation email it states that if we did not want to donate, we needed to mention it at check in. I found this very very sneaky because they could of asked me at check in if I was okay with the donation charge. Instead they expected me to had read the fine print of a confirmation email where I am only interested in looking over the check in dates and check out dates along what the total is. Plus, my mother was asking many questions about transportation to leave to explore the rest of Virginia and the front desk people seems annoyed, even though they had no guests to attend and were literally just standing there.
I visited one of the restaurants at the resort. I think it was called The Edge. I ordered a salad and specified that I had an allergy and needed no croutons, after getting back to my job site at the resort I noticed the croutons had just been taken off after it had already been made, making it inedible for me. I was not happy throwing away a ten dollar salad and will no be back.
The weather was cloudy half the time but that's not their fault. The one bedroom condo was fun and clean, we had a good time.
The hotel was beautiful and staff was very helpful. The rooms are individually owned, so each one is different. The beds and bathroom are up a flight of very narrow stairs in the room. Not ideal for older guests. Our room was very dated and the bed was very hard. Our son's room was updated and more comfortable.
Great place of you got the right weather. They do a good job of making the snow usually, but you can't match mother nature!
I was here before the beginning of the ski season. I practically had the place to myself. At at The Edge...service was great, the food was just "ok".
Fun for novice skier. Occasional long waits for green lifts. No wait in harder areas. Visited on a Friday.
People there were a little rude, not to the point that I dont want to go again. I did fall a lot, which is normal! I definitely wouldn't stay only a day because you dont get the full experience and it's not very fun the very first day... I went with a group and we stayed one day but it just wasn't as fun as it could've been! I did feel as though the instructor was kind of bossy and a little rude... 3 stars for me!
I work here so im legally obligated to say it's a great place.
2 bad experiences with Wintergreen in a 12 month span.
1.) I put my 6 year daughter in the beginner ski class , last 4-6 hours and includes group instruction , lunch etc. I happened to ski by in the afternoon and my daughter is sitting on a bench unattended by herself and crying . She wasn't feeling well so Her instructor took the rest of her class to the slopes and left her behind( which I get) , but without so much as an attempt to contact me. My daughter told me she had been there by herself for " a long time " I was refunded half of my money , but was not at all impressed by the people I entrusted my kid with .
2)Family was mini vacationing for the weekend of Oct 27/28 2018 in Nelson county. Per Wintergreens website they are having a " Harvest fest " that Fri -Sun. Haul the whole family to the top of the mountain , park , schlep 3 kids ages 7yrs -18 months about a 1/3 of mile to place where this " Harvest fest " is going on only to find an empty building. Leave my wife and 3 kids in said abandoned building to go get my car and stop along the way to talk to some nice ladies at the information desk. They agreed and apologized for the info on the websight was incorrect.......so I guess that was my consolation prize for wasting 2 hours of my families time. Come on Wintergreen , you should be little more on it than that.
Not impressed with wintergreen
I understand that it s a holiday weekend and there will be more people. However, the customer service is severely lacking, the efficiency of the staff to manage the lift lines is non existent, and there s no one moving people along allowing for a huge cluster as you get off the lifts. The staff should all take a field trip to Colorado to figure out how to run a resort. We won t come back,
