Hampton University Business Office and Financial Aid Offices are the worst I have ever seen PVT HSBCU conduct Business. Their prestiges reputation years ago is a thing of the past. I believe the Administration from the top down needs a face lift. For what it costs to send our children to that school and have to deal with nonsense, unprofessionalism, and outdated equipment, and under trained staff. I say food luck, you'll find out for yourself. I wouldn't dare leave my child in there another year. It's been real Hampton I hope your around in 10 years smh.

Hampton is consistantly ranked as one of the best HBCUs but it has an increasingly diverse student body to add to its already dirverse falculty. While remaining true to its original mission Hampton has continued to branch out in to the areas of research and new fields of study. Since I graduated in the late 1980s my class mates have reached all of the areas of professional aclaim I can think of. Mayors Generals, Doctors, Lawyers, CEOs, Business owners, Ministers, and leaders in many other fields. Their Art, poetry, literature along with the efforst of thier students and children have and will continue to contribute to the rich fabric of America. Hampton is a great school, not the least because of its reason for being "Education for Life".

I have friends who teach here part time and love their jobs. I work with veterans and many say the university is great for them. The University has a great band and the campus is very attractive. The university provides education for all races and all religions.

Horrible school. They stole a loan from me when I wasn't even a student there! I'm paying back almost $2000 I never used because of them. Now they won't answer the phone, and I've been calling them for over a year. On top of that, when I was there, I was given a $6000 scholarship and they took $500 off at the end of the year because the overspent.
Don't go here. They suck. And their degree isn't that useful, which is why I transferred out and went to a school with some real credentials. The only way you get a job with a Hampton degree is if the person you are interviewing with or company you work for knows someone from Hampton.

While at the time of this review our experience with Hampton is somewhat short, we have been impressed with the quality we've seen. If you want to get lost in crowds of faceless people, Hampton may not be for you. If you're looking to go shopping instead of studying, Hampton may not be for you. If you want to jump campus to go to local clubs and party, Hampton may not be for you. If you want unfettered freedom to do what you want instead of study for your degree, Hampton may not be for you. If you want to dress as though you a thug or work on a street corner, Hampton may not be for you.
HOWEVER, if you want a quality education at a small, private university with plenty of history and a staff that invests in its students and cares enough to get emotionally involved, Hampton may be for you.
But don't get me wrong. While it's very good, I don't have stars in my eyes. It's not perfect. The administration is a bit outdated in some of its long distance methods of communication and it's sometimes hard to get things done long distance, but that's true for most schools. Red tape is red tape wherever you go. Overall this is a very good choice whether you're black, brown, yellow or white. Don't let the HBCU tag fool you into thinking you're going to be an outsider. Life is a pool and you can only enjoy it if you jump in.

+JMJ It is my hope that Google Maps' staff will allow me to post here a review and photos for a Retreat House that I have visited several times when Retreats (silent) were scheduled by the Richmond Diocese. I have no affiliation with this university which I recently learned purchased the former retreat center called Holy Family Retreat House. I am submitting this review only to share photos of a truly, spiritually enriching retreat house. And, to bring emotional closure for a retreat center which holds memories of heartfelt and tender remembrances. The retreat center was once operated by a men's religious order, The Redemptorists, for nearly 52 years. I visited the "abandoned" property quite a few times before I left VA for AZ in 2013. I had even tried to generate interest in former Retreatants and faithful Catholics of the Diocese and elsewhere to promote restoration of the retreat center by the Redemptorists. Well, what is is! May those who have purchased this spiritually enriched property reap beneficial blessings.

This university provides a true "Education for Life" as stated by its motto. On one of the most beautiful campuses in the world, this university's history, legacy and ability to prepare students for life after is unparalleled. Every graduate that I know was gainfully employed upon graduation and continue to be.

Some how, every semester I had to fight to recieve my scholarship money although I had a full scholarship from the Army and Hampton. I never had below a 3.5 gpa the entire time I was there... This school will try to cheat you at evry chance possible. The faculty and staff are Horribly unprofessional. I am just glad I got out of there with a degree

The two years that I have been at Hampton have not been up to my standards. The other top HBCU's I got into I feel at this point I should of made a different decision. The administration in the financial aid office and the business office are no help to the students that help provide them with jobs each and every day, Hampton Staff seems to forget that we are the next generation, if we are not given the respect we deserve they will not receive the same respect back in the years coming.

First I will say this, I am a proud graduate of an HBCU and can testify of the vital role HBCUs play in the African American community and in the global community. However today I was really disappointed and my faith rocked by what I experienced today. See my mom didn't have the opportunity to go to school so she pushed me to attend college and she is continuing to push my younger siblings to attend as well.Growing up in VA she always wanted one of her kids to attend Hampton (a school she would have went to had she had the opportunity). So when my little sister was accepted to Hampton, my mom who is living on disablity sent the security deposit for her freshmen year believing that financial aide will cover the cost. While they gave her a 5,000 merit scholarship it still didn't cover the outrageous cost I even tried stepping in to say I would try to cover some of the cost so she could be financially cleared. Even though it would have been a hard sacrifice on a teacher's budget. However I was told no that was not a acceptable agreement and seeing the hopes of my sister being told she could not return for the Spring semester really rattled my belief and hope in the HBCU concept. While I know that Hampton University is just one institution I believe that it's present operations are a mirror of this notion of HBCUs forgetting and steering away from its true mission of being a beacon of hope and uplift for the community. When these institutions become more concerned with expanding their endowments verses ensuring that first generational college students eager to learn are able to overcome the financial hurdle of attending their institution it should be of no surprise when these institutions find themselves just a mere chapter in history, as the bogey start sending their kids to other institutions and pwi (predominantly white institutions) start seeing the value of offering aide to promising first time college students.

One of the worst colleges in the United States. They are unprofessional across the board from hampton alumni trashing and stealing from the facilities they used to their terrible administration and financial services departments. This is one school you should stay away from, unless you aren't concerned about academics and professionalism from a university.1

I tried to enroll this Fall 2017 semester with Hampton University. I called and emailed several times to discuss my options. I also wanted to setup an appointment to evaluate my current credits and how they fit into their programs. I never received a return phone call or email. Not one attempt on their part to discuss it with me. I should not have to pursue the college to get the information I need.
I enrolled instead with Old Dominion University and they are VERY helpful! The Registrar Director actually answered the phone an hour after they closed and he was VERY polite, helpful and informative.

I was very disappointed while watching the homecoming parade last weekend. The crowd should not have to ask the young men and ladies to get off of their cell phones while riding on the floats. If someone takes the time to come and support the school the least you could do is wave while on the floats. The people that didn't attend Hampton University seemed to be more caring than the ones that go the Hampton. Get it together people.

I have Taught and was the chanselor of the school President of the University/SchoolAdministration. PLEASE contact me so that I can see how I can close the school as I am working with Joe Biden to Re Claim Hampton Roads. Many of associates of the Alumni have contacted me but have not made direct contact to make this a real thing and not just a update.

I will try and be nice as possible writing this review, although this situation has permanently damaged me.
The Counseling Department School of Education in the Graduate sector at HU all the way up to the Vice President of HU are as follows.
Betrayal, unprofessional, libel, slander, dishonest, unethical, illegal, criminals, who sticks together, turn students against one another, hostile towards certain students who doesn't wash their feet. You all will hear my story on the news within a year from now unless they settle.
If I was aware of who the staff were in this department, I would not have wasted my time at this school. I did report all findings and was ignored and nothing was done all the way up the grievance ladder till this day. People think God is a game for he will have the last say and will fix my pain and suffering that resulted from this situation. To be precise, this department to include 90% of its staff are operating unethically. To be continued on my YouTube blogs, or in reply to anyone who respectfully email me if interested in further details. I will not recommend this school to my worst enemy.

I gave three stars cause I actually like the campus and my faculty program staff were kind. However some of the graduate college staff are very unorganized in their documents and just downright rude. When I called to check whether my documents were received, I was given attitude-rudeness to be exact. Hopefully to the next person that is applying they'll be a little bit professional and not get attitudes and snappy with people just because someone wants to make sure their documents are intact. Heres a tip: If you don't want people constantly calling to see about their application status, be a bit more organized and tell your clientele what will be going on. It is sad when a campus is nice but there are some people who are rude. Please do better!

My son Emanuel is currently a student at HU. He went there after an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps. He enrolled in the flight education program. His plan was to return to the military after graduation. After 1 semester, the program was dropped. Now he is at the end of his 4 years, has an amazing job offer and this last semester is not paid for by the VA. All anyone is saying is he has used all of his funding. I can not believe he is the first to graduate college only to be met with this obstacle.

While many will argue that Hampton has done nothing but continued the boundaries of high school, I believe that not only have I become a stronger man because of it, but I have transformed and allowed myself to find interests and qualities that I did not think I had before. This school is a opportunity and what you plan to do with it is your choice.

The Hampton University Education is a holistic education for life. Located on one of the most beautiful campuses North America the institution takes pride in getting to know each student personally and assisting the student in the best of life choices. Time and empathy are taken both for the under graduate student and for the graduate student. It is worth the time and expense to learn more about the Hampton University experience.
I have never regretted a day of my Hampton education.

Hampton University has one of the most beautiful campuses I have ever seen. And I have seen a lot. I believe a University should be judged by its results. I sent my daughter there. She left home a quiet shy young lady. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science, she was out going and out spoken. She was able to land a really well paying job with a well know company. She got promoted several times. In a very short time, she is making twice as much money as I have ever made. Job well done Hampton University !

I toured this institution a few years ago during my junior year of high school. I attended the Black College Tour, when I first saw the campus. The college is very picturesque with numerous majors, sports, and clubs to offer. The vibe from the students and staff is very welcoming and family-oriented. They have a lot of history behind them, by being the first place in the south to provide an education to african slaves as well as Native Americans under Emancipation Oak. Don't think because it's an HBC that only black people are allowed to attend this school. Hampton is very multicultural with a diverse student to staff body. Hence you may see the international circle in front of the Ogden Hall. They encourage you to stay motivated so you can study a major in your field and pursue your career. The dorms, land, river banks and peninsula area attracts outsiders and residents nearby. There are restaurants, parks, and a bank on the campus. There is some convenience to this area. It's on the parkway, right across the bridge from the nearest mall and minutes from Norfolk, VA Beach, Newport News, and Williamsburg. I strive to earn acceptance into a historical college such as this with a scholarship. It's motto is "The Standard of Excellence, an Education for Life" for a reason. They ode up to meeting the student's educational needs. Hampton will help anyone earn their degree so they can pursue a rewarding career. They also help you find off campus housing, and a job before and after you graduate! One thing I say they should tweak is their scholarship offers. They only offer traditional students scholarships. Many HBCUs accept transfer students along with continuing graduates, but won't offer them scholarships. Their tuition is very high. HU can make a project that will increase the funding to pay for the education, room and board, meals, labs, computers, matriculation fees etc. They could also improve on the communication as a school attempting to build their acceptance rate with their graduation rate. Overall, I love it! It's wonderful.

I was a former student-athlete at Hampton University double majoring in Track & Field and Engineering. (Of course I didn't major in track & field but I did become an extremely effective runner turned coach, but I digress) Personally, I love my Home by the Sea. For those who say they hate it, I also assume they didn't try to participate in all that Hampton has to offer. The education is very different from the larger schools out there, you receive a real relationship with your professors who talk to you as an individual rather than a number. You will establish friendships that will last far past your few years of higher education. If you make the most of your experience you wont regret it.
