While at the time of this review our experience with Hampton is somewhat short, we have been impressed with the quality we've seen. If you want to get lost in crowds of faceless people, Hampton may not be for you. If you're looking to go shopping instead of studying, Hampton may not be for you. If you want to jump campus to go to local clubs and party, Hampton may not be for you. If you want unfettered freedom to do what you want instead of study for your degree, Hampton may not be for you. If you want to dress as though you a thug or work on a street corner, Hampton may not be for you.

HOWEVER, if you want a quality education at a small, private university with plenty of history and a staff that invests in its students and cares enough to get emotionally involved, Hampton may be for you.

But don't get me wrong. While it's very good, I don't have stars in my eyes. It's not perfect. The administration is a bit outdated in some of its long distance methods of communication and it's sometimes hard to get things done long distance, but that's true for most schools. Red tape is red tape wherever you go. Overall this is a very good choice whether you're black, brown, yellow or white. Don't let the HBCU tag fool you into thinking you're going to be an outsider. Life is a pool and you can only enjoy it if you jump in.
