Really nice laid back lunch. Venue looks stunning, recently been renovated and looks beautiful. Food was delicious, large portions!!! Great for families with with children as plenty of room for pushchair etc. Plenty of parking or an easy reach of walking/cycling on the Cole Green Way.

This pub/restaurant is set in a well-kept, picturesque village. There was ample parking (free) and was easy to find. Wife had a work's Christmas party here, so we decided to stay the night rather than drive home. Wife had a great time at the party, (held in the marquee) which was well organised and catered for. They had a very talented band on and the music was a good mix. The room we stayed in was clean, tidy, well decorated, had a huge bed and a lovely en-suite. The bar was lively but the bar-staff were quick, polite and attentive. We had a very small problem with the room heating, but this was attended-to immediately and resolved within minutes. The whole place is beautifully kept, and the staff really all seem to care. All-in-all a very nice experience, and without question we would stay again. Well-deserved praise all-round.

*This review is for the restaurant only, I didn't stay in the hotel*
I was part of a large party that came for lunch on Saturday 9th November. It was almost full in the restaurant with a wedding party, a private function opposite the bar and us (2 long tables). We had all pre-ordered our meals from a set menu, but there were a couple of problems with the dishes. My friend didn't get her main course until we had all finished ours. Staff were very apologetic and offered to minus it from the bill.

The food itself was average. I had the burger and the meat was really bland. The person next to me had the pork belly which was drowned in some sort of consomme, thus making the crackling soggy and not crunchy as expected. I had a white chocolate chesse cake for dessert which didn't taste of white chocolate or even vanilla. The texture was weird and not creamy, almost like a light jelly texture. Not my idea of a good cheesecake! Unfortunately I didn't enjoy any of my courses.

I don't know if they had too many bookings and not enough staff but even trying to get condiments was a battle. In the end one of us went searching and got it ourselves.
The staff were lovely and friendly just maybe a bit stretched that day. It was a shame about the food but I expected better for the price. I think if I returned I would avoid the weekend and go on a weekday for lunch or dinner. I'd like to give the White Horse another try due the staff and it being a lovely pub/restaurant (and this is what my rating is based on) but I hope the food would be a lot better this time.

Nice beef Sunday Lunch, once the right meal arrived. We were served turkey and the staff insisted it was beef in spite of clear difference.
Maybe the pub should treat staff to a selection of meals so they can tell the difference between good red roast beef and classic pale turkey

Great meal with great service. Would have given five stars but the manager was a bit rude when we first came in, stating they didn't normally serve food in the bar area despite me asking and reserving a table before the visit, and being the only area we could eat in as we brought our dog.

Disappointing.

Disappointing.
I phoned the restaurant at around 13:00 to advise them of an additional member to our party of six. When the phone was eventually answered on the fourth attempt I was advised that there would be no problem as the restaurant was quiet this evening which I was happy to hear.

We arrived at 7:15 for our 7:30 reservation and where shown to a table laid for 8, Why? It was a round table without awkward legs. why not remove one place setting and at least the guests do not have to appear as if two of them have had an argument.

The menu was presented on a type written yellow paper in a dog eared encapsulation(my local Indian restaurant presents it's menu in a nice bespoke leather cover) and stood little resemblance to the advertised menu on the internet.

Most of the party settled for a starter of breaded mushrooms with a duo of dips ( Barbeque sauce which tasted very much like Mc Donnald's and sweet chilly dip) but it was interesting how the cremated outside of the mushrooms contrasted with the watery tasteless inside to provide a lacklustre prelude to our meal.

The service, given that there were only 4 parties in of which ours was the largest, was poor. Several times we had to ask for condiments that should have been offered with the meal (the tartar sauce which was supposed to come with the scampi arrived around 6 minutes after the meal and had to be requested and I think they sent a runner out for the vinegar) and drinks glasses sat empty on the tables until the fact that a refill was desired was pointed out to a passing waiter and there was a distinct functional aspect to the service with little or no personal interaction, we where not even told the waiters name and had no encouragement to begin a rapport with him.

The Scampi that most of us ordered faired a little better but I have enjoyed the same meal at a Harvester restaurant along with 500 other guests. I should have liked something more in keeping with the occasion really but it was not to be found amongst the beef burger and lasagne offerings.

The cheese board was adequate and the ladies enjoyed their chocolate sweets but when at 10:15 the staff started to move tables around us setting up for breakfast that was nearly the final straw.

The coffee was nice but it was made obvious that we should not take too long drinking it and I have never needed to explain to a waiter how to make Gallic Coffee before.

As you may have understood I was very disappointed and I feel aggrieved that what should have been a very special occasion was marred by the poor service and lack of attention which could so easily have been rectified.

No I shall not be returning in a hurry, perhaps we were unlucky but it is not an experience I am anxious to repeat.

I would have posted this review on the Restaurant's own web site but as far as I can see there is no facility to do so.

Regulars here since it re-opened inc many hugely affirmative social media mentions and likes etc - last visit was a huge disappointment and we haven t been back since

Lovely young team, good food and nice surroundings however , a recent bad experience trying to order a late lunch snack inc the order being taken and then refused 5 mins later for no decent reason (a simple baked cheese and bread ) - basically kitchen is closed early because we ve had a party in ( pub almost empty)
45 mins later other people were served food - full meals and we raised the question to the manager respectfully and calmly, who then went off to investigate.
She didn t return to us and we left.
I wrote an email to her asking for feedback and an explanation and after three weeks no response - even after re-sending it.

What appalling customer care - so rude and disrespectful. Shame

It's a nice hotel in a lovely location, comfy and nice decor
Was just a bit cold and pretty noisy, could hear kitchen fans and doors banging until quite late and early morning. Would stay again if just a night or two.

Well I ver priced! 8 of us had a table Friday night, service was very slow, and 3 of us that had chips, sent them back as they were ridiculously over seasoned and had pure salt all over them. Nice setting, but way over priced for what it is. More

Day1: Uncomfortable beds and poor pillows unless u like a cricked neck, breakfast was below average but the sausage was good, Bacon looked like it was cooked in a steamer, beans had stewed too a mound on the plate and black pudding cooked on one side, egg was over cooked. And to top it off the milk had turned. Tables were left uncleared and left you wondering where to sit. Evening meal: was a little bland although the portions were about right. Average very average. Day2: What a change breakfast was perfect and top marks for service, last nights dinner was also better and the steak was cooked as ordered. Bed still uncomfortable and bathroom although very clean is a bit on the cramped side.
Day 3: As good as day 2. Not sure what happened on day 1 maybe just an off day. Updated my rating to reflect better service and food, although I still think the rooms are uncomfortable.
The settings are as others have said, and front of building are in keeping with its age.

Disappointed. Newly re-opened after refurbishment, and yes, the furnishings are contemporary but prices are far too high for indifferent quality. I stayed here prior to the refurbishment and enjoyed it more. Perhaps my expectations were too high. Average, I was expecting (hoping for) something better.

The stand in manager was not helpful to the receptionist when she had a problem checking us in and was not apologetic to us when our room was a twin and not a double ,it was changed later that day though.
Only one person stood out who couldn't do enough to help and closed some doors by us while another worker was vacumning in the next room whilst we were eating breakfast. ( A young blonde lad )
