Don t try and phone them as they usually won t answer, pretty unhelpful staff

Staff arent great at being helpful! This might just be my opinion though! Its already starting to look a bit old and dirty in side.
My daughter loves it! She loves the toddler pool. The bigger pool and the slides. It's her favourite place to go swimming
I was shocked at state of the life centre on my visit today. The changing rooms were diabolical. There was mould up the walls. Dirt on the ceiling!!! Lockers with out keys so couldn't use. Floor was filthy the list goes on. When I got into the pool with my 2yr old i was met by what could only be rush on all the poles surrounding the pool. More mould on he floors and windows. Also the large pool closes at 1.30 so the kids on school holidays can't go in. Then when the boy was playing in baby pool kids as old as 12/13 jumping all over while the life guard just stood there. I was shocked the money they spent on building the place they have let it go to pot. Will not be returning I'd rather travel and get a clean swim.
Always friendly staff great place for gym swim and other activities great for yourself or whole family
Excellent sized pool, my oldest son loved the water slides, and had a wonderful time in the pool!
Excellent sport centre in an excellent city. Swimming is 50m (not whole day, check the schedule)! Everything is very modern, new. Really impressive to London leisure centers!
Younger receptionists lack customer service skills (last one I faced coughed diligently and with phlegm into her hand while holding my card, then acted mortally insulted when I pointed it out), toilets and cafe tables are grubby, and - worst of all - activities not run by external providers are disorganised. Walked in to gymnastics session last weekend to find "coaches" eating chips in the corner while the kids ran riot. Shame, really, as there are some great clubs using the facilities and also the climbing centre is excellent.
No one ever answers the phone so it's practically impossible to book anything without driving all the the way down there. Unbelievable.
I'm a member and use the gym, other facilities & attend classes regularly. Overall a good place to stay fit. Some staff can be rude at times but most are fantastic (especially the class coordinators/teachers). Studios could be cleaner.
Climb at the LC on the regular, absolutely love the setting, the vibe, and the staff - always greet you with a smile!
Great place for sport and leisure activitys, swimming pools great, separate children pool with fountain and jacuzzi, one major adult pool that can be partitioned off for a middle junior pool also, a home of Olympic diving training and that of tom Daly, also flumes for kids and adults to have fun on, theirs an extensive fitness gym and sauna, but to use gym, you have to do gym induction on an appointment time to suit, before able to use equipment. Several sports halls, a climbing wall which you have to book to be able to use, toilets and disabled access facility's, also a cafe with outside seating available
Good facilities but everything in the cafe is wrapped in loads of packaging & not much fresh food at all. Time to get on board with less plastic & more healthy food!
It has water in a box in the ground, inside, the kids and I love it!! It has other things there too which we don't really use. Plus, I heard the newly created park near by has opened. Probably not that good a news, seeing as it's freezing outside now...
Ideal for a swim not too busy and mostly friendly and pool staff are good
Devon training sessions at Drake Judo at the life centre, excellent venue
Really good climbing wall, fantastic diving facilities and massive pool
Swimming pool is good for lane swimming, however my experience was that there are rarely enough lanes available for general lane swimmers, with most lanes kept for club use only. Yes during the day lanes are available, however when I most want to swim, such as straight after work then the pool is either closed to general swimmers or only 1/2 lanes open. I also find that on the website it will say a certain number of lanes are open, but then on arrival find that this is incorrect, and there are fewer lanes open than stated, making it crowded.
This is a shame, and although good for club use, it cuts out the general swimmer. I am unable to afford the costs to join club membership.
I would agree as well with the last comment about the cleanliness of the changing facilities. Often there is only soap in 1 of the dispensers, and it can be dirty and smelly frequently in the male changing room.
Not a bad little centre..... Climbing price is very high
Brilliant place loads to do for adults and children
Excellent for disabled bowls a very friendly disabled club
Our toddler loved it and we had a great time in the swimming pool.
It's great to spend your free time with children and more.
Family use these facilities. Lots on offer and good value
Excellent gym equipment, terrible toilets and showers.
I love the place and some times you can get a glimpse of "tom"
The Life Centre has great facilities! It's brilliant that they do the free swim for students and I would highly recommend it to anyone studying in Plymouth. All the staff I've met have been nice and helpful.
The swimming instructor was courteous to me and my grandson,
Great service if a little dirty in the changing rooms
Very well equipped sports centre, clean and a nice place to visit.
Great facilities and lessons for diving all the coaches are friendly and supportive
Changing rooms are not cleanest. Pool can be too cold.
NEVER GOING HERE AGAIN!! Staff are far beyond rude! If possible, I d give no stars!
Me and a group of friends were there yesterday for my friends birthday. The staff here are rude and they ruined my friends birthday. If that s what they re being paid to do then they should get a raise and they did such a fine job. But a lot of things put a damper on the occasion.
1: dodgeball: we were playing dodgeball with strangers and workers and my friend got hit in the face BY A WORKER and she was hurt. I said to him that he just hit her in the face and she s in pain and he said and . So we left the court, bearing in mind were 15/16 years old and have no power over them.
2: Atleast an hour later all my friends were in the pool except me (as I cannot swim) and my friend who had forgot her swimsuit. We sat by the pool and other people were too, and there was no sign to say we couldn t. Then a young man came up to me and my friend, no one else, and said why you sat here? . We explained we thought we could sit here and there was no sign so we didn t know. And he said okay well you re not so... and gestures to the door. We walked away and he yelled oi is that something you always do? So I turned around and asked what he meant and he said walking away when someone s clearly talking to you. I m not a rude person so I explained how the way he finished his sentence clearly explained we were finished. Then he got even ruder and said Why you laughing? After I sniffed due to having a cold. I said I wasn t and that I was I ll and he gave me the worst look ever and started treating me as if I was dumb. After him giving directions on how to leave, even though the door was right next to me, he scoffed and walked away.
3: Youth worker staff: after being kicked out by a rude pool staff. We sat outside the Changing Village and two female youth workers were there. Before going to the pool we spoke to these women about going to the gym and they explained that we had to sign up as soon as we get in as the places fill up quickly. So I said ah okay. And that was the end of the conversation. When we were outside the changing rooms, they were meters away from us and talking about how we were being rude to the guy at the pool and 3 of us had ganged up on him. Even though there was 2 of us. One of the things youth workers asked so where s the other one. And the other said probably gone off in a strop. Not used to the word NO. They carried on the conversation about us being rude and when they walked towards the pool door they said they obviously saw the sign read it, looked at us and walked towards the pool. After they left I went up to the sign and it said the open and closing times.
Great facilities with a wide range of activities and generally good value. There is almost always something on for most ages and abilities. Its a nightmare to get through to reception on the phone, and the catering is the exact opposite of what you would expect from somewhere trying to promote health! I've seen healthier options at motorway services!
Great facilities, lovely 50m pool. The fun pool + slide area is quite small though
I'm very disappointed. They asked me to keep paying for my sons swimming lessons during the pandemic. They have emailed to say they won't now be opening til April 2021. Shocked.
The Life Centre pool was always so busy that it was difficult to find a time slot here to swim and even then it would be a tiny, busy lane. I did enjoy the bouldering area, but it needed more interesting routes to match other local walls.
Just spent about 20 or so minutes hanging on to each of the 5 extension alternatives given when one calls the main no. None were answered (on the 4th option, which is for the climbing wall, I was transferred to a mobile no. and put in a queue, I didn't bother hanging on further). I think that an inability to get through is indicative of the mentality of this establishment which seems to have little or no competition and acts as though they need to do the minimum to keep getting the trade.
Good clean facility with great parking. Balcony is too small
Staff are always helpful and friendly; gym changing rooms are usually very clean although the standards in the toilets can slip. And the same can be said for the swimming pool changing rooms, always quite mucky in there.
Plenty of variety of activities to do e.g. swimming, rock climbing, gym or uses of the courts for volleyball or badminton.
Good facilities, nice pool. Changing rooms are a pain. Some things are quite expensive.
It is quite nice there, I personally have only been in the pool and did rollerskating there and had very fun times at both.
Great climbing wall. The best I've been to in the South West. And cheap for students. Easy parking. Friendly staff.
Nice environment alot for the children to do like go on the slides....also I had great fun on the diving boards and having fun with friends.the only bad thing was the changing rooms where dirty mine was anyway so my friend said oh mine isn't that bad so we just shared one but hers was still pretty dirty.....other than that nice stay lovely food and drinks in fact I'm going there in a couple days with a friend .
Nice warm pool perfect for teaching my daughter to swim
Ill conceived, but doing well never the less. Plymouth needs a proper Leisure pool.
The Plymouth Life Centre is an enormous health and fitness facility in Plymouth's Central Park.
It has an Olympic Diving area which was used by top Olympic athletes for the London Olympics.
Fitness machines, indoor bowls, swimming pools, squash, keep fit classes, children's play area and a well priced cafe.
Prices are affordable for most
If your wanting to swim I wouldn't bother between the hours of 1500 to 2100 as it's absolutely packed and no room for anyone.
Great when you pay a membership fee but cant get in the pool half the time.
Plympton pool is not much better unless you fancy battling oaps for the lanes.
Waste of money.
Great facilities, but would be 5 stars as still quite expensive
Took the kids there as had voucher from there school for 5 family swims which was handy during holidays wasn't overly impressed the pools are small and divided up strangely for various things going on. kids pool tiny and when they have swim lessons it's even smaller. The changing rooms/ showers not well kept and smelly. Kids had fun but wouldn't pay to go there if honest. Think the place is more focused on our future Olympians rather than the jo public of Plymouth.
We use life centre for family activity, kids club, holiday camp etc. Lots going on all the time. Facility is good but not luxury. Personally I don't like the changing room for swimming pool as it is always freezing cold.
