I loved this place while I was a member. Really sad reason why I stopped going, but the manager gave me a hug and great encouragement when I spoke to her about canceling my membership. She was fantastic and I'll never forget her kindness!
Their cancellation policy is awful. Beware before signing up to this gym.
They offer nutrition programs and this help achieve your fitness and health goals! Wonderful!!!
I really enjoyed being a member of this gym when I lived in West Seattle. They implemented a work out app that provided a calendar and the ability to set up exercise plans to reach goals. It was very impressive and the hard work they put into it was apparent. Gym management was very kind and thoughtful when I ended my membership, inquiring into my perspective on how things went for me there. Criticisms I have are that late evenings, staff sometimes didn't keep up on towels, and the bucket under the swimsuit spinner overflowed all the time. Other than that, it was a worthwhile, positive experience. I achieved great results with my regimen and credit it to the app which provided a visual monthly representation of attendance, which instilled a feeling of accomplishment. Jason was my assigned trainer through the app and he gave his insightful perspective on self-image and attitude which, upon reflection, remains a valuable contribution to my life even now. I faltered due to some bad decisions, but he was there to dispel shame and promote resilience. I hope it's still up and running and if you're a member, consider subscribing to the app. Hopefully the fee is reasonable though. Thanks for the memories that reinforce a healthful, life-long habit.
Watch out for hidden fees in the contract. The membership staff will not explain it clearly.
Front desk staff was rude to me and one lady said "We know" when I said its my last day helping out there, as I was filling in at the juice bar they had there for a year and was working along side the front desk crew for a week or two. I had a great time while working there and was generous with samples, but each time I needed to use the front desk phone to order more supplies from the other juice bar's delivery run, they would give me an attitude and I didn't get cell phone reception in the lobby there. I found my experience working there to be very dissapointing in the end, as I was so nice to them and to then just be told they were happy I was leaving was very devistating. I was in dismay and still am four years later. I hope the staff doesn't still treat fellow coworkers less than human. The rest of the team was great, just one really mean girl at the front desk and it rubbed off on the others she worked with at the front desk it seemed.
I ve heard great things about this Health Club and am looking forward to checking it out the next time I m in Seattle..
New ownership is on point. Gym is clean and well maintained.
Total crooks. I signed up with them and they unknowingly put me in a 12 month contract, never asking me what I wanted. I tried to cancel 3 months later and they charge a ridiculous $350 early cancelation fee. I wouldn't ever suggest signing up for a health club that is this sleazy with their members. Make sure to specifically ask for the month to month rate. It is $5 more and worth it to avoid this hassle.
I can share my emails back and forth with the owner, but beware of this club. They are not upfront at all with fees, but the owner will reply " I assumed you read your contract" which basically rips you off especially for a month to month temporary gym that you are trying to join. I am assuming they will also try and bill me even though I cancelled by contract for another month. See another persons review below. Go to LA fitness or 24 if you are in West Seattle. This place is highly unethical and the owners do not care about Customer service at all.
I really want to rate this 4 or 5 stars - but the continuous issues prevent me from doing so. This is the "always something" gym. There is quite literally ALWAYS something awry - whether it is flies gathering around the centrifuge in the gym, the eucalyptus running out and not being replenished for months, equipment that remains broken long after the repair date, the hot tub remaining out of commission for what seems like eons now, extending well passed their initial deadline for the aquatic repair without offering any type of compensation, etc., etc.
While these aren't necessary huge deterrents - they accumulate and become very frustrating over time. I still enjoy frequenting the health club - but take the caveats into consideration if you are thinking about joining.
Beware of the contract. We were lead to believe one thing when we signed contract but when in reality it was not true. But since we signed we are stuck with paying for year membership. Sad because I liked the floor staff, it is well equipped, and regular maintenance done. They just did the old bait and switch.
Nice gym, good vibe. Large and complete. Pool, climbing rock, classes, woman's gym, childcare, weights, machines, pretty much everything for multi level workouts.
This place is pretty basic and clean. Better for individual workouts than group classes. I used to work out at the Community Fitness which specializes in group classes so I have a pretty high expectations when it comes to classes. I hope the gym hires some better instructors.
This is a beautiful facility and everyone - both staff and clients are very nice. It is a great place to work out.
Plenty of machines and free weights. Knowledgeable trainers. Addition of the smoothie bar was a nice touch.
Great gym. Cleanly. Has all the equipment I love and need. Family friendly and great classes as well.
Plenty of machines and equipment. Pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room are well maintained and almost always available for use. The facilities manager is amazing! When things do break down, repairs are timely. You almost always see the maintenance staff at work on something, from repairing a machine to painting the walls.
beware of the additional annual fees that are charged in addition to normal monthly fees. The staff will not mention these when you sign up.
Hands-down the best gym in West Seattle. I was a member for many years, but decided to leave during "the troubles." Have been back for about a year now and can say confidently that they have done a 180 from the previous owner. It's always clean. When things break they are fixed promptly. Classes are varied and for all levels of fitness. They still have a separate workout room for women. I see negative reviews about the friendliness of the front desk staff, but they are always wonderfully kind and welcoming to me and to others I see checking in and out. With the complaints about cancelling memberships, maybe there are some issues but it sure sounds like some people just didn't read their contracts and are now screaming "unfair." The policies are there - if you don't like the policies or don't want to comply with them, don't sign up. Jeeze. Pluses: full size pool, steam room, sauna, hot tub, large locker rooms with many showers (with shampoo, soap, and conditioner), hairdryers, bathing suit dryer, ironing board and iron, towel service (extra one-time charge). Great local business worthy of your support.
I ve been going to the WSHC for over a year now, and it is hands down the best gym at the most affordable price. Three floors of swimming, climbing, classes, and equipment. Membership comes with unlimited fitness classes and they now have a premier fitness studio if you re looking for a more boutique atmosphere. Everyone is friendly and helpful and the classes have gotten me in the best shape of my life. Can not recommend enough!
The training is hard, but it's efficient. Trainers really take the time to tailor a nutrition and workout plan for every member!!
Has everything you could want. Steam room and hot tub are great.
Active vibe that makes you feel engaged and enjoy exercise
Now is the best times to enjoy the club. Few people to contend with. Large open spaces plus a huge pool. Life is very good at the West Seattle Health Club.
Great service, very new nice equipment, nice pool and sauna, and plethera of athletic fun classes
I love this place. Polite staff super clean. And most of all it's all inclusive everyone's welcome. Best club in town.
Nice place, locker rooms and showers are clean. They have lots of classes though some are only midday so not able to take them. The one thing I wish they would do is clean the yoga equipment. The mats smell soo bad.
The facilities manager is amazing! When things do break down, repairs are timely. You almost always see the maintenance staff at work on something, from repairing a machine to painting the walls.
Haven t been a fan. The gym is like a thousand degrees so you are sweating before you even work out. The mindfulness studio with yoga classes is under the weight lifters- so loud and distracting and actually thought the speaker above me was going to fall on me. The yoga instructor was a joke. The women s workout room is windowless and dreary. The women s locker room has no ceiling and you Can see dust and god knows what else growing in there. Their contract is poorly written so they can do whatever they want. We are giving our 30 day notice in Jan to end a month to month contract and have to essentially pay until end of April. You also pay a gym upgrade fee, which in theory sounds good, but they invest it in the gyms premier facilities that you have to upgrade your contract to even use. They nickel and dime you for everything, even towels aren t included, in a health club! Poor management. Even talking to staff or asking questions you feel their defensiveness as they direct you to the GM to argue with. Shame, could be such a great place if managed properly.
Went to get basic info on their club....after a review of classes and a tour of the facility, I signed up on their month-to-month plan.
The gym is fine, no complaints there. Just don't expect them to treat you like a loyal customer. Your just a number to them. I signed up for a year membership. I'm not financially independent. I'm a blue collar girl that happens to think health is an important priority. I moved to Bellingham, so I emailed them to let them know that I wouldn't be RENEWING my membership. I fulfilled my contract with them, but was then told that I had to come in person to sign a form. (Good thing I hadn't moved across the country or I guess they would just keep billing me) So I make a 3 hr drive, with traffic to sign this form that they just won't accept via email. When I get there I'm told that I have to pay for a 13th month because they need a 30 day notice before they stop billing you even if you're no longer under contract. I told him that I let them know weeks ago via email that I wouldn't be RENEWING (not canceling). Anyways, putting that aside we move forward, and then I'm told that I have to pay my 'last' months bill that day, not on my usual date. Which would have been in a weeks time. I live paycheck to paycheck. I asked to speak with the manager, and the young kid at the front desk tells me that's him. I let him know I live three hours away, and ask if there is any way he can hold on to the signed form and not run it till my usual pay date, because I live far away. He said no can do. So yeah, if you don't mind management jerking you around, and all you want is a gym, reguardless of what they decide to charge you, then this is the place for you.
Cleanliness is great! Staff is friendly. Variety of work out options is really good! Wish they had a True stretch machine, but super happy with this place overall!
Disappointed that they no longer have the woman's only gym area.
I will NEVER be a member here again. After being lied to by the front desk I was called by the GM who is rude and incredibly impolite.
THEY WILL LIE TO TAKE YOUR MONEY!
Great gym, but I hate the music they playing. How can you do bench press with Bieber on background?
Great gym. Horrible billing practices. Upon signup we had prepaid the last month, as I'm sure many others did too. When we went to cancel & give our 30 days notice they continued to bill us towards the end of those 30 days, which really made it a 60 days notice. The billing department was no help - thankfully my credit card company was. If ever you want to leave, watch out because they're willing to deploy unethical business practices in order to get an extra month of fees from you.
The old, dusty carpet throughout the weightlifting and stretching area needs to go! Unsanitary and extremely allergenic.
This is far and away a better club than the LA Fitness up on Alaska. It's about 5 or 10 bucks more, but it's a better space with better equipment.
Clean, large and now fully functional. Good selection of equipment and services. Helpful staff.
Such a wonderful community of people. Very low pressure to have the perfect body here but great support from other members as well as staff to be healthy! wonderful group classes and lovely lap pool. I have never experienced such a great "neighborhood" community vibe from a gym like I have from WSHC. Highly recommended :)
Unfortunately, the reviews are correct. It s shameful what they do when you need to cancel your membership. I don t post many bad reviews, but this place left a very bad taste in my mouth.
This is the best gym in West Seattle. Great facilities, parking, giant pool, sauna, rock climbing wall, women's only room.
They also count with a really cool lounge area where they serve wine haha.. ok that's a little counterproductive but why not?
I had a WONDERFUL experience at this gym until it was time to cancel. It always seems like this is the case with gyms, isn't it?
I canceled back in May/June because of the COVID crisis and because I was moving. I went in, spoke to someone about it, and signed. I was not given a physical copy of my cancellation confirmation nor was I e-mailed a confirmation. I was not told i would be e-mailed, either.
Fast forward to September 1st. What do you know, there's a $59 charge on my card. I called the gym immediately and told them what was up, and the person I spoke to said there was a problem with memberships and that I should get in touch with Chauna (the GM).
I reached out to Chauna who told me there was no record of my cancellation. I had to either mail a letter to the gym (to cancel again) or drive an hour and a half into West Seattle to do it in person. I drove there, canceled again, and was given a confirmation of my cancellation.
I tried reaching out to Chauna afterwards to get refunded over the bogus charge and I've been ghosted over the past couple of days. Someone named Lisa reached out to me and told me I would not be refunded because there was no record of my prior cancellation. So they pretty much told me I was lying and that they're keeping my money.
I don't know what the deal is with these people but gyms are so damn shady when it comes to canceling so I'm chalking it up to that. The staff was super friendly when I was a member and the facility itself was great. I'm really bummed because I enjoyed my time here and I liked supporting a local business over the bigger gyms.
Take what you will out of this review. I had to call my bank and open a dispute because this gym refused to refund me.
I was just a visitor here. But if I could afford this club, I would be part of it for sure.
I LOVE this place!!! Very spacious, always clean, courteous staff, friendly vibe among members. I have been using this gym for ten+ years. (It went through a rough patch with prior owners, but **now they have everything dialed in and running super smoothly**). There is something for everyone- pool, steam/sauna, fitness classes, two floors of workout space, lots of workout "tools". I HIGHLY recommend West Seattle Health Club.
BEWARE.
I cancelled my membership in April 2016. They continued to try and extract membership fees for multiple months afterwards. The ended up sending me to collections. They made no attempt to assist me with their obvious mistake and told me there was nothing they could do. Horrible customer service. This has happened to other people as well (see other reviews).
Stay clear of this place.
UPDATE - they have changed music services and improved the quality of music in the gym. The gym is definitely in a transitory period with the hot tub, showers, and HIIT gym all under construction.
---
I would love to give this health club 5 stars, but they need to listen to their patrons and CHANGE THE MUSIC. It's impossible to be motivated for a good workout with sappy, acoustic, stale and slow tunes playing from a nice soundsystem. I know that everyone has different tastes, but nobody is happy with the music here. PLEASE give us something with higher BPM and more motivating sounds. I will happily revise my review if/when WSHC takes action.
BEWARE! Highly unethical business practices as it relates to their contract and fees. Chauna, the GM, will charge you an additional month on top of your last month regardless of your thirty day notice. She will also charge you an additional building maintenance fee due in November, even if you've only been there a month in the summer. She doesn't backup explanations from her front line staff, and is quick to throw them under the bus and hang-up on you. She is extremely unprofessional and unfit to handle customer relations.
Nice place to workout in. But they force you into an expensive yearly contract. It's a luxury gym and only worth it if you commit yourself to going often
Been using this gym since about 2003. Never had any issues with past or present owners. Gym is huge and clean. I have left a couple times due to personal demographics but I always seem to come back!
Expensive but nice, customer service not always the best
Great facility and staff. Very clean. Love it here.
This gym is anti homeless. Stop blaming homeless, check your privledge
it is a good club with EXCELLENT sauna and steam rooms. The one issue you should be aware of though is that 60 day notice is required to end your membership, not 30 .....
Love West Seattle Health Club, if you are looking for a gym to workout at, do yourself a favor and sign up with West Seattle Health Club. Their staff is super nice, and their equipment is brand new!
The gym was alright. Nothing special nothing bad, but the problem I had was with their customer service. I moved, and went to the website to their contact form and let them know I was moving and would like to cancel, so please have someone contact me.
Nothing happened but a month later I was billed again, so again I sent in a form and called and left a voicemail.
Again no response. So 2 weeks later I call and am told the front desk cant talk to me so they took a message and passed it along.
We eventually start a dialog and say that they will accept our current conversation as a 30 days notice even speaking with them even in person isn't an acceptable form of cancelling and I will only be billed one more time.
How nice of them right? I had to remind them I already paid my last month when i signed up and it is in my contract. At this point I want to never be billed again and a refund for the month before.
They also say they have no record of me ever trying to contact them. So they are either ignoring, not looking, or just cant access the website contact form submits.
Basically blaming me for everything and refusing to refund me as well as trying to over bill me.
Basically they are telling me that I am wrong in every way and they are doing me a favor to let me cancel but they will bill me again.
Terrible experience
UPDATE:
After All of that and being told I was finally free. They continue to bill me and not answer emails... Lovely.
Feel Scammed with this club. Person had told me when I signed up that all I had to do was get rid of my towel service at the end of the year ( no recurring payments.). They shut down for 8 months and and with no notification they have charged me for a month at first and than raised the price on me to double my premium without warning. I am hoping this can be changed when I see them in person . This is very unfair during these times and not respectful towards its club members
Nice gym. I mainly use the pool so I can't speak to the regular exercise and weight equipment.
They have gym, treadmill, workouts, yoga place, bike place, and swimming pool. Also they have rock climbing setup but I've never seen any one use it.
Joined this gym in January - good facilities. Like the large locker room, swimming pool, hot tub and steam/sauna. Gym areas have decent equipment and never feel overcrowded. Sometimes parking can get full.
I've been looking for a new gym in the area and compared WS Health Club, 24 hour fitness and LA Fitness. Hands down West Seattle Health Club was the best. The gyms are large and spacious with virtually no wait times for equipment. The pool is large so less chance you'll have to share a lane with multiple people. The classes are the biggest highlight - far more offered than any other club. LA fitness has the short term 'new' factor going on as it just opened up, but this gym has more equipment options, including virtual stationary bikes. There is a large rock wall free to use after passing a safety belay check. Customer service has been great. Pleased to have received a discount through my husband's work, so check in with the front desk as they offer some discounts to various groups. There is a lot of space to work out, so If you want to rub shoulders with other people in tighter quarters and go to the gym for more social purposes then the other gyms might be a better suite. If it's more about workout options then this gym is far superior.
Since the new ownership this gym has done a complete 180!! The service is exceptional, equipment is brand new and freaking AWESOME. It's never too crowded and there's no wait for machines, the pool area is second to none .... & now with a brand new redone sauna. HUGE pool, and the icing on the cake for me is a kids club which my 5 year old daughter LOVES..
Thanks to all the staff for all they do ...
A great gym with friendly staff and excellent safety procedures during times of covid. Love this place! Almost docked one star because a few of the treadmills and bike machines have wobbly belts or janky seats and pedals. Easy fix though.
