Hmmmm... A bakery that can't turn around a quarter sheet birthday cake with more than 24 hours notice ??? Had never been this bakery before and heard good things about it. I told the clerk behind the counter that I had never been to their bakery before and that it was my first time in their store. After I had spent almost 10 minutes speaking with her and deciding what I was going to order she took down all of my information. I asked how late they were open on Saturday ( it was 1:40 pm on Friday) she said until five and then proceeded to tell me that the bakers were not taking any orders for cakes for tomorrow because they were full. Really? I can bake a cake and have it ready to go in a few hours! They would have had 27 hours to fulfill my order for a SIMPLE birthday cake! Needless to say, I will not step foot in their bakery again. I vote with my wallet. Off to Westpoint market I go!!!

Staff is always helpful and friendly! They always have a ton of items. The quality is excellent and consistantly better than most. Not to mention that they have hours that make it convenient to get what you need, when you need it. Definitely my go to place when I want to make an impression, or treat myself

I called this afternoon to get details of their offerings and prices for the items for a wedding shower and girl on phone was helpful, I stated that I would be in before they closed to drop off ribbon color samples and place my order.
I went in @4:30 (they close at 5) and clerk is mopping the floor. She says that she will be right with me, and proceeds to finish mopping the floor. Asks me what I need. I explained that I had called earlier, got the information and prices and was just there to place the actual order and drop off the ribbon colors. She kept going to the back and came out saying that someone was on the phone and she would see how long they were going to be. Comes out and asks me if she can get my info and have someone call me because they ARE closing in 20 minutes (so that means that they are still OPEN for 20 minutes, right??? and not MY fault that she had to finish mopping before waiting on me) I said that I could not come back during the week, that I would be without my vehicle for servicing and I just wanted to place the order now. She said again, well we can have someone call you. I left less than pleased and without placing my order, which would have been very close to $200 for what I was going to order for the shower for 80 ladies. I will be telling all of them about my experience. When a business states that they are open until a certain time, they ought to be prepared to wait on customers until that time. I won't be stopping in for lunch anymore, buying anything again. I am just tired of crappy customer service, like the customer is a bother for stopping in while they are still open and expecting to be serviced..

Special ordered a cake and was overwhelmed with the care in both execution and flavor of the finished product. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for! Love it!

OUR HEROS! My sister had ordered a cake for my niece's 5th birthday from the bakery at Wal-Mart. She ordered it 2 weeks prior to the party and showed the bakery associate pictures of what she wanted. They assured her that it would be what she wanted (a unicorn cake) and wrote out the order. Day of the party she picks it up and it is basically a wedding cake ( and not a well-done on at that) complete with jewelry(?) on it. She calls and they told her they can't do anything about it. My husband immediately sets off to find a cake for the party and the West Side Bakery was the hero! They not only made a cake but made the MOST PERFECT unicorn cake a child could want! It was absolutely delicious and so beautiful we hated to cut into it! Needless to say, they will be getting all of our business from now on! Thank you so much to the bakers and staff for going above and beyond to save the day! You made a 5 year olds birthday perfect!

Our wedding cake was absolutely perfect from this bakery! The owner was a sweetheart, and she met with me twice to design a cake that looked similar to my wedding dress. We had two flavors of cake - lemon curd with white cake and ganache and fresh raspberries with chocolate cake. Both were incredible. Everyone asked us during the wedding where our gorgeous and tasty cake was from. We also ordered pastries, and they were some of the best I've ever had. 5 stars without hesitation.

I don t know why it s so hard for established bakeries to make edible cupcakes. The ones I bought were very dry, crumbly, and tasteless, as well as the frosting. The only good thing about them was the presentation.

Fun cakes with delicious flavors!! Plus creme brule, eclairs, and biscottis to boot!!

We got our wedding cupcakes from West Side Bakery, and they did a fantastic job! Angela was so helpful, and she was always available if we had any questions about the cupcakes or their delivery. They did a beautiful job, and also their cakes are delicious!

We ve purchase cakes from here on several occasions (both ordered and from the bakery case). Every time, our cake has been a little on the dry side which is super disappointing for the amount that you pay for them. The decorations are beautiful and I love that they don t use fondant, but the taste should trump design in my opinion. Still on the hunt for the perfect bakery.

Probably the best bakery in Akron. The lemon scones are usually on point, and several of the specialty cakes are exceptional. The carrot cake is always a winner, and we actually got their black forest cake for our wedding. Did not disappoint. I do have to say that they go crazy on the icing. Nobody needs that much icing per slice of cake. Also, their base white cake and chocolate cake aren't that great. We got a cinnamon roll for the first time last trip, and we're disappointed to find it dry as a bone with little cinnamon.

This bakery is incomparable. I don t mind paying a little more for a delicious, high quality item even a cookie like the iced pumpkin cookies. My sisters in Cleveland always expect some goodies from there when they visit me. I always get some peanut butter ones and oatmeal ones for them to take back to their families in Fairview Park and Westlake. Can t wait to stop in there as soon as possible.

Beyond dissatisfied with the design I received today they gladly placed ugly gold balls on my cake in place of the gold fondant that was requested

You know when you can tell somebody loves their job? That was the young lady who helped me pick a cake! Also, it was delicious!

Ordered a chocolate vegan cake with pb filling. The cake was just okay, and pretty dry. I did like the geometric design. I have had their vanilla vegan cupcakes and they were dry as well... so I am assuming it's a vegan thing. I appreciate them offering vegan desserts though

I had placed an order for a chocolate cake for my dad's 70th birthday and didn't give them much direction on how to decorate it. They were really creative and made the cake worthy of such a monumental birthday!

West Side Bakery in Akron provided our wedding cake. It was absolutely perfect! We had chocolate cake and chocolate mouse layer and a spice cake and cream cheese layer. Could not have asked for better! Can't wait to have our anniversary topper - lemon cake with lemon curd! Delish!

Great local bakery. Everything I've ever had is delicious. The people working there are nice and friendly.

I'd give The West Side Bakery more than 5 stars if I could. We worked with Barb and her team for our Wedding cake and cupcakes, and the whole process was so easy! They provided us with 3 cakes at our tasting, and we were sold right away! They were SO delicious, and Barb was so friendly. She even worked with me to surprise my husband with a Grooms cake. HIGHLY recommend!

The staff was very accommodating. I purchased a 10 inch round cake sight unseen out of the bakery case for a dinner celebrating my son's college graduation. The cake was suppose to serve 10-12 persons. It served 11 and we had half a cake leftover. It was delicious and exceeded my expectations. The bakery delivered it to the restaurant for a nominal fee. I was traveling a long distance and timing was an issue. It was wonderful to arrive and have the cake waiting for us.

Beautiful AND delicious cakes, cookies, breads and more! It's a cute little bakery store and even has a few tables for those wishing to enjoy their coffee and croissant it the morning paper. Highly recommend their lemon cake!

I drive 45 minutes from Cleveland to come here. Totally worth it.

We chose The West Side Bakery for our wedding day needs, and we are so happy that we did! The cake was EXACTLY as I had imagined it to be decoration wise, very intricate and good attention to detail, a work of art in fact. All of our guests were amazed at how beautiful it was, but even more so with how it tasted - all of our guests could not believe how delicious it was, saying it was the best cake they had ever eaten, and this is from people who had come from all over this country! The staff was always very friendly and pleasant to speak with. Each time I had contacted the bakery, whether by phone or e-mail, they were very quick to respond, always in less than 24 hours, even on the weekend. Our consultation was face-to-face, they offered GENEROUS portions of the tasting samples (we were even allowed to take the left overs home!), and assisted us through the entire selection process, offering examples and suggestions while also allowing us plenty of time to consider out options. We even had a few vegan guests that the bakery was able to accommodate with a small vegan cake, which was also DELICIOUS - we took home the left overs of this and literally could not even tell the difference between the vegan and non-vegan cake, icing and all! I would highly recommend this bakery for any special occasion needs, we will definitely be returning in the future.

West Side Bakery did all of our rehearsal dinner desserts as well as our wedding cake/cupcakes. We were incredibly pleased with the entire process. The tasting was easy and smooth and from there on out we didn't really have to do much. I went in unsure of how I wanted the cake decorated and they had plenty of ideas and options! They were great to work with.

Stopped here for the first time yesterday. Bought some tea cookies, a veggie wrap, and a latte. My customers loved the cookies (reasonable price), the veggie wrap was probably one of the best I've ever had, and the latte was perfect. Above all though, the gal behind the counter was so sweet and this place was packed. I was impressed by how well she took care of me even with a long line of customers. There wasn't a place to sit, but this is probably to be expected in a small cafe at noon. I will be back for sure!

The place to go for cakes, cookies and scones. Excellent customer service (I've never had a bad experience). We've ordered birthday cakes here for years, and they've always been wonderful. Even when providing very vague direction on decorations, they've come through with exceptional designs. A little spendy, but worth every penny. Beautiful and delicious. And the curry chicken salad is a favorite, too!

I didn't take photos but we were extremely disappointed in our wedding cake. There was no cake or filling. The HUGE pillars they put in to anchor the cake made it impossible to cut and serve. I had just the top two layers of a wedding cake so not huge. Definitely not worth almost 200. I was very upset only the top teir was really edible and able to serve. But again, there was like no cake just frosting. I used to love this bakery. The taste testing was a phenomenal experience which is why I gave 2 stars.

I love this bakery! I travel from up north - Cleveland area - just to purchase the wonderful, amazing baked goods! It s so worth the drive, and I love being able to share all fabulous creations with family and friends. Keep doing what you re doing - The West Side Bakery is a gem worth treasuring!

Terrible service. Made an appointment weeks in advance to meet about a small cutting cake for our wedding. They called 30mins before our appointment to say they are booked the day of our wedding. I hear they have good cake, I d just be concerned that they actually follow thru on your big day.

Had a cake and chocolate covered strawberries delivered to my wife's work for her Birthday. Delivery was on time, cake was delicious and the price wasn't bad at all. Would highly recommend WSB.

A friend that worked at the Starbucks next to it raved about this bakery, she came to visit and this was one on of the places she wanted to stop at. The shortbread cookies tasted like chalk, they were not very sweet almost like they forgot to add an ingredient. She got me two cupcakes for my birthday and they were very unsatisfying. They were vanilla and carrot cake, the vanilla had no taste to it and the frosting on top was flavorless like the cupcake. The carrot cake cupcake was hard. The taste of the carrot cake was good, but wasn't expecting to bite into a scone with cream cheese frosting. My friend got a white chocolate and chocolate mousse tart and that was the best thing she purchased. It was very rich so that was right up her alley. My friend was disappointed with all but one purchase. Maybe they had an off day or my friend made bad selections, but when you pay $3 for a cupcake you do want it to taste like a one. I've always drove past the bakery but never had a chance to stop and try it, now I can say I have and I am not impressed.

Excellent small bakery offering both retail sales on demand for either immediate consumption on the premises or to take home. In addition, they sell pastries for weddings, birthdays, and many other special occasions. The quality of the pastries is very high. My wife and I return there as often as we are able.

I had a birthday cake made here with a specialty art design. It was beautiful! It turned out exactly how I wanted it too. It was also delicious..the best mocha and chocolate ganache filling I have had. Thanks again!

Today was the first time going to The Westside Bakery to pickup a cake for my friend. I go in, let the young lady Isabell know that I am her to pick up a cake for "stated the last name" she asked if it was a sheet cake? I proceeded to tell her it's a 2 tier cake. She said ok one moment I have to go to get it. I asked am I in the correct location? She stated that the production place is like a minute or 2 away. She returns after a few minutes with the cake. I take a picture of the cake a send it to my friend, to make sure this was correct. She send a message back and says something about the name wasn't correct I also noticed that the name was incorrect. I told her about the name and stated let me see if they can correct it. About 15 minutes goes by and she comes back with the cake. The name corrected. (Mind you this isn't my cake) my friend stated that the cake had a plaque on it and the name was suppose to be on the cake. She then says rudely " you should of told me this before ". Listen this isn't my cake and I'm only going of the person that ordered the cake. (As she shot the messenger)
Long story short. First impression are EVERYTHING and this was my first impression. After customer service like that I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM HERE!!!

I called West Side Bakery to make a Bachelor Party cake and it came out wonderfully! The cake was "Ball and Chain" themed vanilla with a fudge center. Not only was the cake DELICIOUS - the design was great. Everything came out better than I imagined it to be. Will definitely call them again in the future.

We loved our lemon cake with lemon curd filling such good flavor and texture and the decorations were just like we wanted you did a great job you have done many cakes for my sons birthdays and we will be back fir the big 21 next year

Best vegan cakes ever! I've been buying baked food from them for over 6 years and have never been disappointed. Service is great too.

The desserts are good but overpriced and staff is not always knowledgeable. They are rarely friendly.

I ordered a birthday cake. The details of flowers were so very real and the cake was exceptionally very good.

Editing the review because they called and offered an apology for the non-cut zero and some store credit for my disappointment. I really appreciated that. They also said they would have tried to fix it for me if I had been the one to pick it up. The lady who took the order didn't write that the colors should be bright or primary, so miscommunication in ordering on someone's end. The original cake is pictured here. I paid $150. People thought I made it. That didn't seem like a compliment to the cake. Everyone agreed that it tasted very good.

It wasn't exactly what I thought it would come out like ,but it looks and tastes great . Would come back again but would make sure it was exactly like I said though.

I have heard so many things about this bakery, so we decided to go and see what types of bakery goods the sale, never did I realize that the person who assisted was very disrespectful which I will never visit this bakery again. The person name that was displayed was Kim, even when it was time to pay Kim tone was toward us was very negative, we tried to be positive but when other people were getting treated nicely and when it was time for us to request our bakery treats, only to be treated negative. I never try to play the race card, but this was the one time I will use it. If your African American just record yourself or have someone else record it, especially if Kim is there and you will experience what am trying to say. The only thing that was missing in west side baker is the confederated flag.

I have always been a fan of this bakery. Whether it be for a quick coffee and scone in the morning, soup and salad for lunch or just a sweet treat for my husband and I, everything has been excellent. It is evident that the bakers and staff at the West Side Bakery care about the products and services that they are providing. We get all of our birthday cakes from the bakery and we even got our wedding cakes here. They are so accommodating and will create any vision you have! I would highly recommend anyone who is looking for a delicious, quality product and top notch customer service to go to the West Side Bakery. You will NOT be disappointed.

Side note: They have VEGAN desserts! Be sure to special order ahead to make sure they have what you would like. I have had multiple cakes and pastries and you would never know that they are vegan. Yum!

Last minute (when I say last minute, I mean same day) called to request a specialty cake for my Father's birthday. Thankfully they were able to accommodate. Cake was good not too sweet. Definitely a West Akron gem.

I try to eat there as often as I can.

I made a special trip to check out this bakery, cute and easy to find. The inside is cozy and the presentation of the goodies are pleasing to the eye. I ordered a lemon specialty cupcake. Lemon cream cheese icing, lemon cake and lemon curd inside. I love lemon fyi :) the lemon curd inside was awful like it was old. The icing itself was ok but it tasted like someone walked into the store and smoked on them. I also got just a regular cupcake white cake and what was suppose to be buttercream frosting which was almost flavorless. This one seemed like it had a freezer taste and the cake seemed dried out. Overall cake wise I wouldn't buy any of these items again. I also got a sugar cookie with icing, this I did like and it was decorated very pretty. I would probably not go back. Prices are a bit high for more than a spur the moment lets try this kind of place. The specialty cupcake was $4 and I could only eat 1/4 of it. The regular one was 3 or 3.50 and also went into the trash.

Very clean and orderly. Their little cakes and tortes are great. Their cookies aren't though. No flavor.

Small, quaint place, with indoor & outdoor seating. I haven't had the coffee. But the pastries and cookies are phenomenal. The chocolate bomb with cookies n cream is outstanding. The French baguette is perfect, crunchy outside, not like the false advertised junk at the grocery stores.

The couple who have this specialty Bakery are dedicated to SERVING their clients the " Very best products made with superior ingredients plus manufacturing care". West Side Bakery is Akron's place to stop and eat or purchase Superb Bake Goods. ENJOY

AMAZING place, the iced cookies are a favorite in my family and even those out of town want us to bring some when we visit. We ordered a ton for my grandmothers 90th and the whole party asked where we got them. Monica is an amazingly sweet person and the best customer service I have ever seen.

Just stumbled upon this lil gem. Sooo yummy! I'll definitely frequent to try all these beautiful baked goods. Fresh salads and sandwiches are delicious. The ladies there are so lovely and helpful.
