This is an awful place that is cruel to animals. To those of you blissfully unaware of what happens behind the scenes, they illegally breed tigers, sell them on the black market, and keep them chained up in tiny concrete cells for 20 hours a day. They are abused and drugged in order to make them more docile for you to cuddle with. These so called "monks" can't care too much about saving these gorgeous animals. Still want that cuddle?

The keepers are not spiritual priests but hoodlums who drug the tigers, punch them in the face to get
them to "pose" for money from the tourists. Abuse and greed, this is the business of this "temple of horrors"! I recommend not visiting.

Tiger Temple, or Wat Pha Luang Ta Bua Yanasampanno...

Tiger Temple, or Wat Pha Luang Ta Bua Yanasampanno, was a Theravada Buddhist temple in the Sai Yok District of Thailand's Kanchanaburi Province in the west of the country. It was founded in 1994 as a forest temple and sanctuary for wild animals, among them tigers, mostly Indochinese tigers. A "commercial" temple, Tiger Temple charged an admission fee.

The temple has long been accused by animal rights activists of mistreating the tigers for commercial gain and even trafficking some of its animals,[1] though in 2005 it was cleared of allegations of animal mistreatment in an investigation by wildlife officials and a raid by Thai soldiers. Charges were pressed for unlicensed possession of 38 protected birds found on the temple grounds.[2]

In May 2016, the Thailand Wildlife Conservation Office (WCO) began capturing and relocating the tigers, intending to close the facility.[3][4] Authorities counted 137 tigers on the premises, and the frozen bodies of 40 cubs, some of them dead for more than five years.[5]

Disgusting; any real animal lover will never visit a place like this. Tigers are not meant to be tamed, and certainly not for our entertainment. Anyone with a heart would not pay money into this cruelty.

Real animal torture. These pseudo monks keep tigers in chains and drug them to take pictures of tourists. When the tigers are asleep they sting them in the face with wood or something else to make sure they are really sedated so they can take pictures with tourists for a fee. It happens every day. Slave tigers of scum dressed as monks

SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN!!!!

SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN!!!!

They must be punished serverly for such inhumane crime!

SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN!

SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN!

Wether they are drugged or not, walking a tiger on a leash is an act of animal cruelty. Visiting the place and funding it to stay open IS AN ACT OF ANIMAL CRUELTY!

You are as cruel as the people who run the place.

No I haven't visited this place and I never would.

Stop animal abuse!

Stop animal abuse!
Stop drugging these animals for your own profit, you re not buddhist but people abusing religion and animals to fill your pockets.

I have seen the documentary and I had never seen such a calm and peaceful tigers. Sad they close... They didn't have only tigers, they also have horses, wild pigs, etc.. only feeding the tigers cost 9000 per year which is a lot of money... Keeping in mind they didn't have support the only way to get money was letting people in so they can feed the animals... People love judging... This tigers were living there for 16 years... And they took them out and probably a lot of them die....

The Tiger Temple in Thailand's Kanchanaburi Province is very different from traditional Buddhist temples. The monks of the temple keep over a hundred tigers in the temple, which attracted many tourists, not without various controversies. At first glance the tigers, even though they are still kept in captivity for a tourist attraction, are very well kept. They are tied up, but they are for tourist visits, left free for the rest of the day. Neglecting the thought of animal rights activists, I found it a very pleasant park to admire these splendid specimens of tigers up close!

The only thing I like there was small pigs. They are so funny and lovely! But tigers... erm... They look like pumped out of something. You have to spend more than an hour at least to get a chance to take a few pictures by non-professional in 20 seconds.
I can name this place as tiger prison, not as tiger temple at all.
Completely disappointed. Waste of time!

Im Thai and took my husband to this temple in Summer 2014. We just thought it was not as advertise. It's just ok if you want to see animals in the open area. We didnt see any monks. The price was a little too high (normally you don't pay to go in a temple)

I had the opportunity to see the tigers during the morning program. The guys are working really hard to do the best for the animals. There is still some improvements to do, anyway the day there was great. We could feed and troll with the younger ones and had a short walk with the big ones. The tigers are only chained when visitors are engaging them, of course to our protection. I saw them running around play fighting each other bathing..... there was no impression of drugs or cruelty. Maybe my former commenters should actually visit the place these days.

Exciting to get so close to the leopards, you can even touch them. There is much speculation about what monks do for leopards to be so docile with them. What I saw was a very careful, loving, disciplined and especially respectful treatment with these animals. It is difficult to imagine even for those who do not understand the effect of treating an animal with love.

This place doesn't even deserve one star. Only visit if you really don't care about animals and are happy to see them abused and exploited for money. This place should be shut down and the head monk arrested for animal abuse but of course that will never happen.

Don't visit this temple. 600 baht for a foreigner, open at 12 noon. Free admission and/or donations for Thai nationals. Thais can enter before 12 noon free. Foreigners work as volunteers while this temple makes a lot of money from non Thais. You only get to see few tigers

Please DO NOT visit this place. And DO NOT believe the people who are saying that the tigers aren't abused and drugged. Think about the fact that tigers are wild and carnivorous animals: Do you really think that it is natural for them to let hundreds of people pet them, take pictures with them, and there is never any accident? They ARE on drugs. Don't support the animal abuse. Please think, and be a tourist that respects wildlife and nature.

Can bring food to feed, get in free

And this is called the temple of tigers because it deals with the protection of them? I do not have completely certain proofs but this is not at all that place where tigers are well or enter (who knows why ...) quietly in contact with man. Too bad that today there are still people who do nothing but think of the one and only personal enrichment at the expense of the life of poor living beings who only need a life in the place they deserve: their natural habitat, which is not certainly this. The tirgri here are not treated at all well, sedated in such a way as to be indifferent to human contact, therefore drugged. Shame!!! Corpses of tigers have also been found to preserve you for the purpose of smuggling and skins. I have no more words to continue ..

oh my god, please don't visit this place. This place just releases the tigers for approximately 4 hours just to preserve the illusion that all tourist have which is that the tigers are free and happy. The truth is that the tigers suffer from 24/7 hours lock down and are used to breed many young tiger cubs. The tourist who thinking petting, sitting and even holding the tigers head or placing their babies in these poor tigers are truly ignorant and have no respect or are humane and they are the ones who give good reviews. There are 100 tigers locked away in cells far away from tourist eyes. Please for those who wants to have a good vacation but remain humane at the same time, refrain your self from visiting this place but i urge you to buy the book entitled Behind The Cloak of Buddha and even visit the facebook page Behind The Cloak of Buddha.

After visiting this place I only hope that these "monks" that are known for there love of animals, surrender these poor creatures to the wildlife friends foundation Thailand.
I would love to know were all the money goes from the tourists that visit because it does not go to the Tigers.
The Tigers live in appalling conditions.
The hole sham is depressing.
The volunteers even admitted they take the Cubs from the mother when they are just a few weeks old so they can be part of the tourist attraction.
Absolutely disgusting.
I regret spending my money here which is supporting these people to take advantage of these majestic creatures.

Would give 0 stars if I could....tigers are chained, seemingly drugged to remain docile for the hundreds of tourists that come through every day. I read bad reviews about the place before I went but didn't want to believe it, I really wanted to see tigers. I wish so much that I hadn;t done it. Not worth it! If you care about animals at all this place will just leave you feeling depressed and regretting funding the place.

Visited in 2011. The tiger temple began when a cub, orphaned by poachers, was brought to this temple. Others were brought in, tigers grew and mated so the number of tigers grew. This has become a place of protection for the tigers. They are currently building a large area for the tigers to frolic. For an extra 1,000 baht I went into a cage with cubs and got to hold one less than 4 weeks old. I spoke with a volunteer there from Japan. Stories of abuse are not true.
