I took a friend's recommendation to bring my children to Dr. Shay, and was pleased with the staff and Dr. Shay's attention to my children's eye health. Dr. Shay explained her diagnoses and gave me her perspective on deciding whether to buy glasses for my children.

The service was not the best as far as wait time, front desk , and the doctors professionalism. I had to wait longer than 30 or 40 min each time. It took the doctor (Anne) several trials for the right prescription for my eyes to get the right vision and still couldnt get it right. The front desk doesn't communicate with the upstairs people and told me to pay what i didn't owe. Also, it took me three calls to make them send me my prescription.
Virginia Eyecare Center has the latest equipment and the staff are knowledgeable in its use. No long wait period for appointment. Dr and Staff are very professional, courteous, and always take the time necessary to ensure patient is comfortable and understands everything discussed.

This is actually Melanie Williams, Steve's wife. I had an appointment with Dr. Mallory, the first time I'd met her. She was very nice. My only concern is her reluctance to pull down her mask so I could lipread her. She wrote notes for me, but some were hard to read. Governor Northam's executive order says that people may pull down their masks if they are speaking to a deaf person. If this is really a problem for the staff at Virginia Eyecare Center, then I suggest that they buy clear masks or shields to use when deaf patients come in.
I appreciate my thorough exam and the helpful staff. I have been a patient for more than a decade and have always had great service! On the rare occasion of an eye emergency, they were immediately able to assist.

Both my wife and I had a wonderful experience at Virginia Eye Care Center. Dr. Anne was fantastic in working with both of us to ensure an accurate diagnosis of our eyesight issues and that we had the right prescriptions. As a first-time eye glass wearer, she explained to me all of the options for my condition and made recommendations that ultimately were the best for me. And when we picked up our frames a week or so later, Julie was awesome in ensuring that both of our frames fit properly and spent the additional time in getting them right so that our glasses felt comfortable and sat properly on our faces. An absolute fantastic experience! I ll be making the hour+ drive for all of my eye care needs to see Dr. Anne and her team again!
I have been going to Virginia Eyecare Center for nearly twenty years. I've always been very happy with the care I received, both for glasses and for contact lenses, and for adults and children.
Virginia Eye Care personnel and optometrists are all very friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. They have been my eye care center for the last 5 years and I have been very happy with the care I've received. I'm a senior citizen and have always been treated with kindness and respect. The Optometrists know their stuff and have always provided up to date information for taking care of my eyes.
We have been going to the Virginia Eye Care Center for well over 20 years, and have never had a bad experience. The doctors and staff are a cut above. I am convinced they truly have your eye health as their number one priority.
Very disappointed with this office for taking all of my insurance information over the phone, setting up an appointment with me, assured me that our insurance was taken as I asked when I called to set up the appointment. I show up for the appointment to check in, weeks after setting it up, and am told, "Oh, we don't take that insurance, we're sorry." I had also pre-filled out all the forms online, which should have prompted them to call me and cancel. Thank goodness I did not take work or school off in order to bring in my children for checkups. This could have been resolved over the phone very easily and I could have set up another appointment earlier with a provider that did take my insurance. I'm sure the providers are great, but just wanted to share my experience in hopes that this will not happen to someone else.
I was met by new Tech since June 2019, Rachel who was the ultimate professional well beyond her young years. Well spoken, kind, cheery, Rachel clearly explained each process and what she was going to do and made me feel so comfortable. She offered me the Wellness heck for $59 clearly explaining it was not covered by my insurance but I agreed to it anyway. As I was lame on a cane, she very kindly carried my heavy purse to the other room, even offered twice to hang up my coat. Rachel was SO IMPRESSIVE I told Dr. Anne and asked her to share my comments with the owners. This glowing young woman is your best Ambassador for Virginia Eye Care!!!

Great experience overall. Easy parking. Staff is friendly and educated, explained my eye health clearly and gave multiple options for both contacts and glasses. Didn't wait long. Only complaint is the space is tight and I wish they were social distancing a bit more with less patients. However, I had a late afternoon appointment so I imagine earlier in the day is less crowded. Cool feature that my old eye doc didn't have - an online portal where you can message the doctor - she replied within a few hours!
We visit Dr. Tim at Virginia Eyecare. Even though we have moved from Virginia to NC, we still have family in Virginia and make regular trips there. Rather than switch to a new eye doctor we will continue with Virginia Eyecare. The staff is professional, well trained in all the testing equipment and make you feel comfortable. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for someone you can trust.

Dr. Shay and her team helped fit me with toric contact lenses for astigmatism that several other DC-area ophthalmologists lacked the patience, experience, or knowledge to successfully prescribe. Her team is efficient, but have never made me feel rushed.

The doctor who tested my vision was very nice and put me at ease. She did an excellent job of diagnosing my vision difficulties and the resulting change in lenses has been excellent. The optician also did a fine job of getting the correction in the needed area and fitting my new lenses. I would highly recommend this establishment and have already done so.
Kylee was wonderful in the optical department. The first pair she selected was the one purchased. She was efficient and skilled.
Very bad experience! will not go back. They are a factory - very hurried - they don't say what their system is, but get bent if their system is not followed. They stream people through the offices and it took all day on a week day. The doc prescribed me eye cream for dry eyes - staff sent to the wrong pharmacy then got snitty when I asked them to resend to the correct pharmacy - why couldn't I go to fairlakes to get it? Then the prescribed cream really stung - couldn't use it. Then the optical shop was upset because I wanted to pick out my new frames BEFORE my eyes were dilated. Then the lenses were incorrect - had to get them replaced.
I was able to get a same day appointment for an urgent eye problem with Dr. Shay. She quickly diagnosed and remedied the problem for me. I appreciate the professional service and care.
Virginia Eye Care Center has been my family's place to go for many years. They have the best care , from the front desk, where they are always cheerful, very helpful and organized, to the eyeware room where they seem so happy to help you find the best frames and then expertly fit them to your face. Dr. Anne is our favorite doctor of all times! She is very friendly, asks about the family, excellent at taking me thorough each step, and gave me a clear vision of what I was to look for in the future. She is extremely good at her job as an eye doctor!

I have always had excellent experiences with Virginia Eyecare Center, from the front desk staff to my doctor to the opticians. Dr. Huebner always takes time to examine my eyes thoroughly and explain her findings; at my latest visit she spent extra time on adjustments to my prescription. She also referred me to an ophthalmologist when she speed a problem that required one. The opticians are extremely helpful in helping you to choose frames that work best on your face and they go out of their way to make your insurance dollars get you as much as possible. I definitely would recommend Virginia Eyecare Center.

Wonderful Family Care. Dr. Tim LaFreniere has provided care to myself and two of our children for several years. Recently, we've become very concerned about my youngest son's myopia and Dr. LaFreniere recommended CRT (Corneal Refractive Therapy). The results have been nothing short of miraculous. Dr. "Tim" is always engaging, professional, and must have the best notes in the business. I would highly recommend anyone looking for an Optometrist to seek him/them out.
